Protester Killed By Police In Ilorin Now Identified Posted: January 3, 2012 - 21:27 Muyideen Mustapha By SaharaReporters, New York The youth killed by the Nigerian police today in Ilorin, Kwara state during an anti-fuel hike protest has been identified as Muyideen Mustafa. Credible sources in Ilorin told us that Mustafa was an Abuja-based youth who decided to participate in the protest only to meet his end at the hands of the police. Mustapha is 23 years old and hails from the Ajikobi ward in Ilorin. Meanwhile, the Kwara State police command is twisting the circumstances surrounding the killing of Mustafa, claiming that he was stabbed to death by the National Labor Congress (NLC), which had earlier accused the police of shooting the unarmed protester. The Police Public Relations Officer in Kwara state, Dabo Ezekiel, told AP that motorcycle-taxi drivers who were angry because they believed he was against their cause stabbed Mustafa. The police are widely-known in Nigeria for violence and human rights abuses against innocent people which they then clumsily try to deny. In Delta State in November 2011, for instance, eyewitnesses recounted how policemen shot a former governorship candidate, Ogbe Onokpite, in cold blood. But the state police commissioner, Ibrahim Tsafe, issued a press statement stating that the man was killed in crossfire. And then last month, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Hafiz Ringim, responding to pressure from the family which had reported the matter to the Executive Director of the National Human Rights Commission, asked the same police commissioner to “investigate the murder.” http://saharareporters.com/news-page/protester-killed-police-ilorin-now-identified

What a travesty of effrontery!! The protests has recorded its 1st casualty. A protester has been reportedly shot dead in Ilorin, Kwara State. While i don't subscribe to the use of violent means to express our displeasure and grievances over the timing of the fuel subsidy, i find it inexplicable and nefarious that the Nigerian Police Force, reputed for their barbarous disposition, has remained adamant on the use of live bullets to quell protests. What happen to rubber bullets 4 crying out loud??. . I hereby advise protesters to be patient until the labour unions & civil societies begin d mass protests. D reason is that by synchronizing our protests, together with the organized labour, d govt.can b petitioned to d International Court of Justice, if anyone gets shot by d daft policemen. Doing it individually robs you of that privilege. There is every need to be organized in dis exercise and observe d rules of d game. No use of weapons or destruction of properties. I get increasingly infuriated at d growing contempt of the people by d authorities. they have obviously derailed in dis issue and i still wonder how they intend to handle the aftermath of events, after inflaming so much resent, distrust and suspicion in the hearts of those the policy is supposedly meant to benefit. Pleas someone should help counsel d govt.that they're simply going about this the wrong way, no matter how good their intentions may be. D people must be allowed to express themselves & question d govt, albeit in a civil way. Nigerians must resist any attempt to circumscribe their inalienable rights, |

This is plain murder by the Police. Yet, it was only channels TV that reported it ( maybe AIT did, i don't know) but the crap NTA refused to talk about it. What they showed mostly was the Unemployed Youth Association of Naija eating, dining and talking about being in agreement with the fuel subsidy removal. |

Mohammed Bouazizi lost his LIFE but saved Tunisia. On his action, a 23yr old regime was toppled. By his blood, the Arab spring protests was watered! By his cries, millions rallied and shoe-ed Mubarak way, after like 33years By his cries and blood, those in Bahrain, Syria, Yemen are still strong and undeterred! If he was alive today, l would never have heard of his NAME! I never did till he made the ultimate sacrifice! Thus, his life was fruitful, more glorious, most popular and purposeful WHEN HE SACRIFICED IT FOR THE GOOD OF HUMANITY! Let me ask: Of what value is the life of most "miserable Nigerians" (no offense but if you lack water, electricity, good roads, mortuary as hospital, cant afford 3-square meals, cant afford good education, sucks-in fumes from Generators 24/7, no job and your future is actually bleak while a few people in government use our collective money to buy houses overseas, THAT YOUR LIFE IS MISERABLE!) , . . .IF THEY CAN NOT SACRIFICE IT FOR A WORTHY CAUSE LIKE THIS? At least like Muhammed Bouazizi, you will forever remain immortalized and respected all over the world because you did not die for armed robbery, 419, kidnapping, e.t.c but you died fighting for Justice, fighting for Liberty, fighting for FREEDOM FROM OPPRESSION, fighting for the future of your generations yet unborn. Niegriasn, wake-up, dont rely on any NLC or Union Leadership (They are collecting bribes behind you (like Oshiomole and Abati, under Obasanjo's fuel increase) and sacrificing your life), MUYIDEEN MUSTAPHA'S SOUL CANNOT "REST IN PEACE" UNLESS YOU CONTINUE WHAT HE DIED FOR! LET THE PROTEST BE SPONTANEOUS! SUPPORT THIS PROTEST WITH WHATEVER YOU HAVE! |

This is terrible! When are we gonna have value for human lives. Why do the authorities keep giving arms to uneducated, frustrated and callous policemen? Then they still back them up when they use d arms to claim the lives of the citizens they are supposedly to protect. Gosh! |

1) One barrel of Crude oil = 42gallons or 159 litres 2) Our Refineries (i.e 4) Installed (combined) capacity = 445,000 barrels per day 3) Actual refineries capacity due to ageing equipment = 30% i.e. 133,500 barrels per day. 4) 133,500 barrels = 21.2 million litres 5) Local required consumption (F.O.S) = 12millions litres 6) It means that even our MORIBOND refineries can actually meet our local consumption need of petroleum. 7) The cost structure of crude oil (i.e. Qua Iboe Crude Oil) production; - Findings / development - $3.5 - Production cost - $1.5 - Refining Cost - $12.6 - Pipeline/transportation - $1.5 - Distr/bridging fund Margin -$15.69 True cost of one litre of petroleum anywhere in Nigeria; - Total sum cost = $34.8 - 1ltr cost = $34.8/159 litres = $0.219 - Naira equiv. 0.219xN160= N35.02k - Add Tax N5 + N35.02 = N40.02 9) Let FGN refute the above composition and if not, they should tell us how they came about N65/litre. 10) Locally refined products cannot be sold at International price. 11) We really do not need FGN SUBSIDY as there was NONE in the first place. 12) What is LACKING, is the WILL to enforce LAW ON CORRUPTION. Pleas re-post until it gets to the right quarters for their response; We still stand a chance as a COUNTRY. Analysis done by Professor Tam David West, former Petroleum Minister |
