ABUJA – PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan, Friday, met behind closed doors with the 36 state governors as part of ongoing talks on the contentious deregulation of the downstream sector of the petroleum industry.

Also in attendance were the Vice President, Namadi Sambo and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim.

The meeting which also had the Labour Minister, Mr. Emeka Wogu, in attendance was expected to dwell extensively on the threat of strike by labour unions over the deregulation.

The meeting was also meant to discuss the various palliatives being put in place by the Federal Government.

As at the time the meeting started at 9pm, the governors in attendance included those of Anambra, Abia, Benue, Kwara, Kogi, Delta, Cross Rivers, Edo, Niger, Nasarawa, Rivers, Ebonyi, Sokoto, Bauchi, Taraba, Enugu and Adamawa.

Governors of Oyo, Zamfara, Lagos, Jigawa, Borno and Katsina were represented by their deputies.

Vanguard gathered that the governors had earlier met under the aegis of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.

I hope they come out with good results for Nigerian. I also hope God gives our President a good heart, wisdom and the right words to be able to rule Nigeria as the way it should be.

At times like this, Mr Jonathan needs all the wisdom to navigate this thorny issue. His advisers should have the courage to tell him that the approach is wrong and the ensuing protests and other expressions of dissent are beginning to get worrisome for discerning people.

Good prediction . . .whichever way . . the protesting masses still lose . . .we should be hounding the NASS members and all other extra vagant political offices . . .harping on subsidy removal alone is quite myopic to me . . .

accountability and curbing wastage in government should be our ultimate target

with that drunkard on board, i don't think so! I dont think he has ever spoken a word on anti corruption or prosecuting anyone

every other thing people harp about, some fishermen turn it into a northern agenda, sanusi's northern agenda or some tribal/religious bullshyte now
this is one common oppressor everyone is concerned about

The only `palliative`Nigerians want is to revert the useless policy of subsidy removal, curb your selfish expenses on your useless self and hanger-on, let the EFCC do their job a la Ribadu days, cut down huge government spending on non-existent projects and resign, keel-over and die or be assassinated! Maybe, just maybe at the next election Nigerians would learn to avoid your type of dumb Jonzer Goatluck president.
