Fuel Subsidy Protests: Sss Goes After Bakare by TruthTella(m): 7:31pm On Jan 15, 2012
Indications emerged at the weekend that operatives of the State Security Services (SSS) had concluded plans to arrest Pastor Tunde Bakare, the Convener of the Save Nigeria Group. Sunday Mirror gathered that security operatives had planned the arrest of the fiery pastor last Friday shortly after his address at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park, Ojota in Lagos, where protesters congregated daily during the period of protests on the fuel subsidy removal. It was gathered that the attempt to arrest Bakare was thwarted by the large crowd at the park on Friday.

A source informed Sunday Mirror that it became a major issue between the office of the SSS director and that of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohammed Bello Adoke, on whether to go on with the arrest or not. The argument was that an attempt to arrest Bakare could lead to a major confrontation between security operatives and the crowd of protesters.

It was gathered that the Federal Government had not been comfortable with his utterances during his address to the protesters Bakare, who was the running mate to General Muhammadu Buhari in the 2011 presidential election on the platform of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), has been leading a series of protests and making pronouncements against the new order particularly since the national strike began last Monday. It was gathered that some of the SSS operatives on his trail joined the crowd he addressed on Friday at the Gani Fawehinmi Park.
