In Kano, Speaker Tambuwal Requests Amnesty For Boko Haram! by BlackPikiN(m): 1:51am On Jan 26, 2012
from BBC Hausa Service, with agency reports -
Yesterday, Senate president David Mark said he and the speaker of the House of Representatives Aminu Tambuwal had ignored security risks to travel to Kano.
“We want to ensure that a few misguided Nigerians who have been led into this action don’t take this country hostage… it is not about religion, this affects the entire nation,” Mark said in Kano.
In his own remarks on BBC Hausa interview, Aminu Tambuwal, Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives urged the Federal Government to forgive and dialogue with the Boko Haram sect as part of efforts to end its uprising.
Tambuwal said there was the need to “forgive them, bring them to the table and discuss with them to see how to end these problems.”
Asked if he meant use of force should be replaced with dialogue, the Speaker said government could take all measures, starting with dialogue and if it fails then resorting to use of force.
Meanwhile about 200 Muslim clerics and political leaders offered peace prayers in Kano.
“I will pray to God that we should never re-live the catastrophe that resulted in the deaths and maiming in our city,” Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso said.
Emir of Kano Ado Bayero told the clerics: “I enjoin you to continue praying for peace and stability in our city. I call upon you to use any religious fora to pray for peace in our land.”
A purported spokesman for Boko Haram using the nom de guerre Abul-Qaqa claimed responsibility for the attacks on Friday, saying they were in response to a refusal by the authorities to release its members from custody. Some detainees being held at a police station in Kano were thought to have been freed during Friday’s attacks.

No! In 2008 or 2009, i forgot which, the government of Yardua, with Gej as VP, gave them parole and released a bunch of them from jail. Enough, giving them bail, escape, parole, forgiveness and definitely no amnesty.

People who compare MEND with Boko Haram and asking for dialogue are not sincere, and are delibrately confusing the issues.
How many times did MEND bomb churches or mosques?
Is BK asking a fairer share of the resources from their region?
Was mend asking to islamize or christianize Nigeria?
MEND has some known figure heads, who were publicly vocal about their agitation.
Who is the public head of Boko Haram? Tambuwal embarassed

That is exactly what happened in the case of MEND. Matter of fact, some of them became semi advisors to the Federal Government.

Resource control . . . imposing islam on the country . . . what is the difference? Each of these groups made demands on the whole nation, pretending they could lay claim to one thing to another and inflict pain on the innocent if their demands were not met. They are both terrorist groups and since we resorted to paying terrorists to appease them, it makes sense that someone suggest we continue that practice even here.

If you throw bomb in any domain or territory of Nigeria for whatever political, religious or social reasons you are terrorist. MEND is a terrorist. Boko is a terrorist. MASSOB is a terrorist.

Rubbish!! Arrant Nonsense.

KOBO JUNCKIE == TERRORIST SYMPATHIZER

Written all over her words. Read in between her sentences.

How does MEND(where huge amount of Nigeria's resources and FOREX comes from ;marginalized for years) = BOKO HARAM.

Anyone who compares got no conscience in their heart.

Go and sit down and stop making unnecessary noise. When we FINALLY go our separate ways, then we know who the REAL terrorists are. That is why you people are NEVER to be trusted. Always playing politics and looking for the slightest opportunity to capitalize on situations to drive your BASELESS and DUMBFOUNDED points.

We are watching and the game is still on.

That is sort of the way I see it. If you are willing to use violence to get your demand met . .  . leading to loss of innocents lives, you are a terrorist. And we rewarded terrorists in our recent past, even going as far as to create a Ministry to deal with matters to relate to the concerns of one of these groups. So, I see no reason why we now create this illusion that there are "SPECIAL" cases or terrorist groups that ought to be exempt.

In 2009, I complained about how we are digging a hole we will probably regret once we start towing the line of paying off terrorists to make them go away. So, I don't see why those who supported the paying off of the MEND group in order to stop the killings see this any differently.

From UBONG UKPONG, Abuja
Wednesday, January 25, 2012

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt. Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika, yesterday, revealed that no matter whatever measure the military put in place to fight the Boko Haram Islamists and other terrorist groups in the country, they could not guarantee the required level of result unless the society rejects terrorism without justification.

Ihejirika made this disclosure in Abuja, while addressing the Alumni Association of National Defence College (AADEC) and the present Course 20 members of the college, at the opening of a seminar on national security with theme, “Nation-building and national orientation, imperatives for national security”, organized by the association in collaboration with the college.

The COAS, who spoke passionately about the present security problems in the country, orchestrated by the activities of Boko Haram regretted that members of the terrorist group live among people in the society but the people could not muster the courage to give information on them, to enable their arrests.

Ihejirika  disclosed that since the rebellion began, the military had put several measures in place, which were sufficient to curb the excesses of the terrorist group,  but regretted that the required level of result could not be achieved because the society was yet to reject and expose these terrorists.
He, however, believed that although the society might have been willing to volunteer information on these terrorists, they however, felt intimidated and frightened by the possible attacks on them by the terrorists after volunteering such information.

He, however, assured that his men were fully on ground throughout the country to give protection to citizens and all those who would volunteer information to end this insurgence.
“What the military would do normally is to begin to deal with situations like this at operational and tactical levels, detecting bombs and diffusing them, engaging the terrorists in a shootout.

“It’s rather inconceivable that large members of the society would habour criminals only for them to wake up, strike at targets who live also within the society. Rather, they have achieved this through intimidation, control, collaboration, or cajoling or whatever means. We have a serious problem that requires solution at strategic levels, thus the theme of this seminar is apt and will yield a lot of benefit.

“I want to say that the Nigerian Army is not resting on its oars. we are transforming, retraining, the last batch of our quick response troops just past out on Friday and are also being deployed to contain the freedom of movement of the terrorists towards Abuja, which is really their grand aim. But no matter whatever measure we put in place we could not get the best result and fast enough, unless the society as a whole rejects terrorism without any justification”, the Army Chief stated.

Earlier in his remark to declare the seminar open, the Chairman, Major General Chris Garba (retd), had faulted that over the years, national security was left to the military excluding socio-economic development, religious development, political maturity, which gave rooms to inequalities, corruption, cheating, with many people being denied their rights to health and education amongst others.

Consequently, he said that Nigerians were not motivated, and because of the lack of motivation, they felt that they could not support the State, since the State could not support them, but Ihejirika said that none of these things should form a basis for justifying terrorism
.

He stressed that, “those who try to justify acts of terrorism inadvertently fuel terrorists and some do so only to discover later that terrorism is not a matter to be negotiated and win.”

Apparently reiterating their non-readiness to negotiate with terrorists, the COAS insisted that the military would continue to strategize and step up its operations with a view to conquering the enemies, urging the society to as well, delete the idea about negotiation from their minds and come all out to win the fight against these terrorists.

All Terrorist AKA Boko Haram and Sympathizers of Terrorists of BH both online and offline should NEVER be tolerated or negotiated with. If they insist on negotiating and harboring Terrorists, if they insist on living side by side with terrorist;  DIVIDE THE DAMN COUNTRY.

What happened to that thread here on Nairaland about the so-called great Nigerian army. One fool was posting pictures of what he hoped was a competent, battle tested, and modern army.

Well, the truth is the security apparatus in the country are a joke.

They cant beat Boko Haram, and cant beat MEND, unless there is assistance from foreign groups lol.

Its only against unarmed civilians that the military would threaten to shoot at site, or show their "True Colors".

SO, this Arab-copy cat that calls himself "AMINU" (lol) is indirectly telling una that noise or no noise, Naija man in khaki no get liva to fight Boko.

you are a real junkey and you are insane, how dare you call ND people terrorist. Well the time to take back our oil is near. we allow you benefit from our resources and you call us terrorist. You said the ministry created for ND was created for terrorist?. Let me inform you that Nigerian economy will collapse if boko haram is given amnesty. We have been instructed to shut down the oil wells in ND if boko haram is given amnesty. All the youths in ND will be given amnesty because our water has been polluted , we cannot fish anymore. Wait and see if that will bring solution or cause a bigger problem.Boko haram crises does not affect crude oil production but ours will affect production, PHCN, subsidy and the economy will collapse. May be you don't know that we are not happy to share our resources with northerners.

On a more serious note, why doesn't the honorable speaker of the house set up a committee to dialogue with Boko Haram shocked
High time that re.tarded and daf.t hausa fool man stopped sounding like he's leader of the opposition party.

The Nigerian government set a very dangerous trend with the MEND situation.

Therefore, don't blame anybody from Boko haram asking for dialogue/Amnesty/Egunje/National cake.

When MEND started the bombing and kidnapping some short-sighted people on Nairaland were happy about it. But unfortunately, you never regress from things like that.

We go see where/when Naija go end up!!!
Re: In Kano, Speaker Tambuwal Requests Amnesty For Boko Haram! by PointB: 9:55am On Jan 26, 2012
Fair enough! Let's give them amnesty, and let's see if MASSOB will not be the next to ask for amnesty to declare the republic of Biafra, OPC the same amnesty to declare Odua Republic. Let the feast of amnesty begin! It must go round!

Criminality is now a lucrative business in Nigeria.

Afterall, it will end in AMNESTY.

and AMNESTY in Nigeria= Oversea arrangi training + Rehabilitation money + Federal and State government appointments + monthly fat salaries for doing nothing + ,

The wrong precedence was set when FG gave AMNESTY to Niger Delta militants.

AMNESTY my nyash.

We have alot of retards on this forum. They have allowed ethnicity and tribalism to cloud their ability to reason without bias.

Whether you are fighting for resource control or sharia, the moment you take up arms and other sophisticated weapons to press home your demand, you are a terrorist.

You wont be surprise that after BH, OPC andMASSOB will start theirs and ask for amnesty.(national cake).Come to think of it, why didnt the masses take up arms in protesting for the excesses of the govt.  Its simply because the moment we take up arms  we are no more protesting. we are fighting the govt and other innocent citizens.

The Nigerian people are as bad as their govt.
