German President, Christian Wulff Resigns Over Bribery Accusations by mukina2: 11:56am On Feb 17, 2012
German President Christian Wulff has announced his resignation in a scandal over favours he allegedly received before becoming head of state – creating a new problem for Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Mr. Wulff announced his immediate resignation on Friday, a day after the slow-burning affair escalated dramatically with a request by prosecutors for Parliament to lift his immunity from prosecution.

Mr. Wulff is stepping down after less than two years in the job. He was Ms. Merkel’s candidate for the presidency in 2010.

His resignation is potentially awkward for her – providing a major domestic distraction as she grapples with the euro zone debt crisis. A successor must be elected by a special parliamentary assembly within 30 days.

Resignation from public office is not part of our African culture. grin
They would rather sit down there and bribe/bully their way through any scandal.

Can someone tell me why such country would not develop? This is really foreign to the African culture.

This has been long in coming. I can't believe Wulff eventually resigned over this shocked. You guys need to see exactly how flimsy this was. . . .his resignation isn't warranted. Makes me realize how the littlest of past mistakes can affect future endeavours in European lands!
Re: German President, Christian Wulff Resigns Over Bribery Accusations by Nobody: 4:08pm On Feb 17, 2012
Accountability at it's purest. You should see the grilling this man has been getting ever the incidence was exposed. And to think that the bribery sum involved was so petty.

An example of a nation that believes in herself.

Nigeria should watch and learn how advanced and intelligent people do it, maybe then we may stop being looked down upon and grouped together with lower primates. Nigeria the cursed nation.

The best decision is for him to resign.
The first was 500,000 Euro private credit/loan he took from his friends wife. Some believed he had affair with the woman.
Secondly, his vacation in Sylt was financed by another state contractor amongst other small deals.
The Stadtanwalftshaft removed his Immunity and there is nothing he can do again than to resign.
He made some terrible decisions that was a big secret till he became President.
Re: German President, Christian Wulff Resigns Over Bribery Accusations by mutter(f): 10:05pm On Feb 20, 2012
He had no option but to resign. There have been calls for his resignation and he was constantly in the news. I think he just wanted to avoid this last humiliation o his immunity being removed.
I do not think that he did anything tragic. It was a mistake for Germany to appoint someone with a political background as president. The position is more that of custodian.
