The two phones are worlds apart. BlackBerry Bold 9700 is an old phone, while Bold 9900 is newer model running the latest BB OS, the BlackBerry 7. In fact, BlackBerry Bold 9900 is the current flagship BlackBerry phone. Follow the link at the bottom for an overview of BlackBerry Bold 9900.

Here are a few differences between the two phones:

@blank

@ Coogar, u obviously did not understand my post or I was not clear enough. He has almost no apps, just the usual bbm, facebook, protect. The only additional is chess and he does not use it anymore cos of the battery. I personally, adjusted the brightness, etc still no dice. Maybe the phone just has a small memory storage cos since the os 6 update, the browser keeps saying low on memory. The phone is shyte and I won't advise anyone to get it.

Sorry to hear of the trouble your husband is having with his phone, I suspect as your husband bought the phone in the US, the phone is branded (ATT. T-Mobile or something similar) this is not bad it itself but our experience is 'branded' smartphones often have one problem or the other especially if they have to be unlocked.

If you are in Lagos bring it to our showroom and we will re-install the operating system which in most cases will solve most problems.

Battery Life

The newer Blackberry's do not have the length of life as the old 8900's or even 9000, this is probably because they are working harder, getting a full 24 hour usage is problematic. It is important that when you intially get your smartphone, Blackberry or otherwise you give it a good charge before you start using it.

Warranty

At www.omafones.com we confidently say we give a 12 month warranty to anyone who buys a phone from us. In the first instance we will try to repair a phone if it is an obvious manufacturer fault, if this fails we will replace the phone.

Best BB to buy

At omafones we only sell brand new, unbranded phones with warranty.
we recommend the Bold 9790 (Bold 6) touchscreen, OS 7 and 1000ghz processor at N78,500
we also have the Blackberry Bold 9900 (bold 5) touchscreen, but 1200ghz at N91,500

for cheaper models try the Curve range
Blackberry Curve 9350 (Curve 4) at N52,000
Blackberry Curve 9360 (Curve 5 or Curve Touch) this is touchscreen only phone at N53,000

Poster

is the poster asking about the difference between 9700 & 9900 or 9700 & 9000? I ask because most replies seem to be comparing the 9000 and 9700.

But for the record; neither BB9000 (the original Bold) or BB9700 (Bold 2) are available new. They are now longer in production, you cannot get the BB9700 to buy brand new, only tokunbo or Nigerian used, you definately cannot get the Bold 9000 for new, the Tokunbo or Nigeria used cannot be newer than 3 years old, 3 years in life of a phone is a long time.

Somebody did a detailed comparison of the 9900 & 9700, I don't need to add anything the analysis was spot on.

the Blackberry that is comparable to BB 9900 (Bold 5) is the BB9790 (Bold 6) - bold 6 is the junior brother to Bold 5 even though Bold 6 is a slightly newer model.

The 9900/9930 bricking issue is a known issue. Even RIM has acknowledged it. For cases like Honsule's, there's nothing the user can do. In saner climes RIM will replace the phone for free. In Nigeria, you're on your own.

My research so far,i discovered about 4 pple were able to revived theirs using this os: 'find a leaked version of 7.0.0.540 (this is a MUST) and install it'
i downloaded d OS it didnt work for me.

@Chucky234 I am not in Nigeria at the moment but you can reach me via email at emma_nd@yahoo.com . I promise to match my price with any major dealer's price in Nigeria and also reduce it by 1% . If those dealers in Nigeria can not provide you with 1 year warrantee on their brand new phones, Run away .

Economics 101, phones are consider elastic goods because you can easily substitute sellers or brand , you don't have to know me, I seperate friendship from business. I have major clients from Ghana and Cameroun, I maybe a Nigerian but I have not tested the market.
@AKainzo
I live in a captalist country, you don't need approvals from BB to market their phones. All you have to do is apply for a reseller license at your city hall and then look for a private company' that buys their surplus goods in large quantity. Your cash can take you a long way.

Sell your used blackberry phones and laptops to YDASS CONSULT. Email: info@ydassconsult.com or yemisamson@live.com. 0803-688-0615. Note: We don't buy Nigeria Used products as they might be stolen goods. Thanks

@RealMcoy far be it for me to spoil somebody's business, honestly if you BB9700 and the BB9000, please bring, but why anybody would want to buy a phone that debued in 2008 is beyond me, almost like someone insisting on buying a brand new Peugeot 505 instead of a new model Peugeot.

But it is known fact that RIM no longer make the Bold 9000 or Bold 9700

And the used ones you buy from US/UK cannot be stolen goods? angry shocked shocked They must all be saints in this countries and their prisons are not populated by natives at all.
You want to sell used items in Nigeria, yet you do not want to buy used goods from NIgeria. How does that sound to you? And you go on at the beer parlour ranting about how bad the economy is and how life is hard. Start to look inwards to see how you contribute to the bad economy.

how would the battery last when:

your brightness is 100%
you use key tones
you have 1000 contacts on your bbm
when you have different ring tones for different contacts.
when you don't close your apps after using them.

grin grin grin grin

9780 is an excellent choice,

Honsule, follow this process and I am sure your 9900 would come alive again.
1. Download and install the the Desktop Manager version 6.2
2. Install any of the 7.0 OSs that is higher than the stock OS onto your PC locally.
3. Start DM
4. Re-boot your Phone and while it is on the JVM screen, connect it to the computer via USB
5. On the DM screen, It would display 'Inability to communicate with device'
6. Select UPGRADE to install the local OS onto the phone.

All the best

The features are generally the same except for the track wheel on the 9000 being replace by a touch pad and internet connection being quicker depending on the carrier. Both generally are reliable phones compared to nokias which in the last few years have had a consumer history of returns due to defective software.

My guy, Na wa for you o! These guys are talking about phones with maximum of 1500mAh rating and you come in to mention a tablet with 4000mAh rating! shocked shocked shocked That your tablet lasted only a day is a testament to what coogar is saying as you've got too mnay things running.

On a tablet, it is good, but on a phone-it is disaster.

Ok, maybe I shouldn't have used the tab for comparison here. How about the Galaxy S? Its battery is 1650mA and still manages to give 2 days on a single charge. I was responding to co ogar's claim that no smartphone has a bad battery.
I don't see the essence of buying a smartphone whose main attraction is multitasking, only to have all your useful apps shut down just to save battery. I believe my phone should adapt to fit my lifestyle and not vice versa.
The 9780 has a poorer battery life compared to other phones in its category, period. You are free to confirm this online.
coogar:

they did not. . . . .if they did, they would have recalled it back and have them replaced.

Just like they recalled and replaced the Storm 9500?

@Faithin9ja
Point of correction, refer to my  previous post to see what spec of BB I am offering to potential buyers? This is not a reading comprehension exercise blog. For better clarification I will rephrase; I am selling brand new BB 9900/9930 and BB torch 9810 but I try to balance everyone's budget so I decided to add new BB 9700/9650(white). This is 1.45am west coast time, I am using my tired eyes to upload few sample pictures . Number to contact is on my previous thread. The white is BB torch9810, the black is BB 9900/9930 and the stuff in box is the 72hrs non stop talk time rechargeable charger and it is same size as USB flash drive very light weighted.

I got this type of problem while running two OS on PC in parallel. The both window and Linux are claiming the USB port while BB is trying to connect to JVM. VMware and Other Parallel OS program will give you headache loading BB OS firmware, I have experience that MANY times.

Just be sure, another device is not trying to use the same USB port. Another program that may do that is your BB Destop Manager. Check to see your BB Desktop manager icon disappear completely from icon tray before running your apploader for the BB OS install. or remove any other USB devices like modem before you start.
If it won't work, uninstall your BB Desktop Manager and try again or change your PC
Let me know how it goes.

Sorry to wake you up, I realize the time difference, but the initial poster was asking about difference between Bold 9900 and Bold 9700 in his title, but in the body of the his message, he asked for difference between Bold 9000 and Bold 9700. I specifically said that neither Bold 9000 or Bold 9700 were available, as they had both been discontinued by RIM. However you erroneously argued that you had access to Bold 9000 & 9700 brand new within your stock over 29,000 units of BB, I believe including the discontinued models

I think, I, not faithin9ja deserves the apology.

Anyway you are welcome to come and join us in the Nigerian market.

Yes. I used for 5 months before my wife hijacked it from me for Valentine.
Personal experience:
It is heavier compared to 9930 I'm using now. It is not as fast as 9930, I don't know of 9900
It is generally a nice phone too with 8GB internal memory like other OS 7 phones.

i have had my 9810 since october and it's a dream phone.
no problems at all - i prefer touch screen phones so i rarely use the buttons under it.
9810 and 9900 belong to the same generation. . . .but i think 9900 is slightly better.

9900 has an assisted gps, 9810 has the gps but it ain't assisted.
9810 is also heavier but size/weight is subjective. some users love heavy fones, some prefer it lighter.
9900's battery life is not as good as 9810. . . . .

9900 has a better download speed. 9810 has a better upload speed.
they are almost identical in all other aspects of the network shebang.
the processing power is the same(frequency, core and random access memory)

the keypad, keyboard, photo & video, web browsing, storage, screen resolution and music are the same in the 2 devices.

uninstall your desktop manager and reinstall with the updated one.

leaked version of operating system does not always work with all devices - different network providers use different software version bundle.
users just do trial and error. . . . .i once downloaded 7.0.0.585 for my 9810 and i couldn't use the keyboard, the screen froze and i had to downgrade.

so if it's not allowing you to upgrade to a newer version of software bundle, you can go a step backward.
these bundles are mostly a facade, the naked eye won't really notice the difference.
so go back to 7.0.0.296 if you cannot go past 7.0.0.585.
