National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is reviewing the orientation course content for corps members beginning from batch “A” this year.

This was revealed by the Director General of the Scheme, Brig. Gen. Nnamdi Okore-Affia while addressing participants of the 2012 Batch A Pre-Orientation Workshop in Lagos.

Okore-Affia said that the change in the content was necessitated by recent developments in the country which, according to him, were not envisaged by the founding fathers of the scheme.

“Such challenges included serious post service unemployment and over-crowding of the orientation time-table with activities that were not very beneficial to the corps members among others.

“At the end of the orientation course, corps members will be required to opt for skills that would enable them to be job creators and employers of labour instead of roaming the streets in search of white-collar jobs that are non-existent,” he said.

The director-general revealed that the President has approved a new posting policy for corps members that will be done on a four key sector basis to include health, education, agriculture and rural infrastructure.

On his part, Lagos State Governor Babatunde  Fashola, who was represented by his Deputy, Mrs. Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, appreciated the corps members for contributing to the development of the state and called for even distribution of corps members in the states to reduce overpopulation in some.
