ibori has been in detention for almost a year. . . .it costs tax payers about £100 a day to keep a prisoner in the cell.

Meanwhile, the corruption of the judicial system has become more and more flagrant. James Ibori, the infamous Delta State governor who has had more than $35 million frozen in the United Kingdom on corruption charges, recently had 170 corruption charges against him dropped  by Nigeria’s federal high court. Allegedly one of the most fabulously corrupt men in the country walked away from court free as a bird, while the rumors that he substantially funded Yar’Adua’s presidential campaign gained traction among the skeptics.

Instead of tackling the country’s worst problem, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been transformed into a political weapon, mounting cases and show trials against many of Nigeria’s leading reformers. Nasir El-Rufai , the highly respected former minister of Abuja and a client of mine, has been the victim of one of these campaigns of persecution, and Nuhu Ribadu , the former head of the EFCC, has also had false cases brought against him.

it's £40,000 per annum to keep a prisoner in the uk which works to around £110 or thereabout.

Someone said he had money before  undecided

The UK dailies report him as earning £5,000 a year while working in Wickes, a store selling home goods. A Monk cannot survive on that - not in the UK.

The criminal was involved in credit-card fraud while he was working at wickes, it seems. After he was charged, and probably released, the thing moved back to Nigeria Niger delta region to, according to one, LOOT free Urhobo Money naw . . . . . na im that one con dey tell us say im get money before . . . . imagine claiming a thief get money before.
Na this kind reasoning wey people get dey cause all this problem . . if people been still dey treat thieves like we been dey treat dem for before, this problem no go reach this point.
Imagine a man who probably paid off the Nigerian judges down here, go another man land confess. When dem ask am, im still get mouth to brag say im no steal, im just thief. ROFL

that report is incorrect. . . . .if he earns £5k per year in the uk, it means he was earning less than the minimum wage and it doesn't make sense.
ibori earned £15,000 per annum while working for wickes not £5k. daily mail is a shitty news source.

and the bbc link never mentioned his corruption charges were even dropped which goes to show the naija links kobojunkie keeps printing is untrue.

The prosecution in this trial told a judge he was earning around £15,000 ($24,000) a year.
He was caught by his employer allowing his wife to walk through the till he was manning without paying for goods.
They both pleaded guilty at Isleworth Crown Court and were fined.
In 1992, he was convicted for possession of a stolen credit card, which had £1,000 spent on it, and was again fined in a UK court.
