Ndlea Arrests Pakistani With N120m Heroin by gulfer: 6:37am On Mar 02, 2012 |
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested a 35-year-old Pakistani with 13 kilogrammes of “high grade” heroin with an estimated street value of about N120m. The anti-drug agency said the suspect, Mr. Syed Ahmed-Bukhari, was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, shortly after arriving aboard a Qatar Airways flight from Doha. A statement by the Head, Public Affairs, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, said Ahmed-Bukhari was found with parcels of brownish powdery substances that tested positive to heroin. The agency believed the arrest had aborted the entry of a perilous Pakistani drug cartel into the country. The statement quoted the Chief Executive Officer, NDLEA, Alhaji Ahmadu Giade, as stressing that the agency would make drug trafficking unprofitable through regular seizures. “Drug trafficking is attractive to criminal cartels because of the huge profit but we are determined to make it unprofitable through regular seizures, arrest and prosecution,” Giade said The NDLEA Airport Commander, Mr. Hamza Umar, said the suspect was carrying a Pakistani international passport with number BT3347071. Umar said, “A 35-year-old Pakistani was apprehended following the discovery of 13 kilogrammes of high grade heroin in his hand luggage. A Nigerian clearing and forwarding agent by name Okereke Chukwudi, 42, who is suspected to be an accomplice has also been arrested and investigation had commenced.” Ahmed-Bukhari, an electrical engineer, who hails from Karachi is believed to be working for a Pakistan-based drug cartel, according to the statement. He was found to have travelled from Karachi to Abu Dhabi aboard Pakistan Airline flight before taking Qatar Airways flight from Doha to Lagos. Ofoyeju said the suspected accomplice, Chukwudi, who hails from Ekulobia, Anambra State, was cooperating with narcotic investigators. NDLEA boss added that the arrest of the Pakistani few days after three Bolivians were caught in a suspected case of methamphetamine production was a demonstration of the agency’s resolve to bring drug traffickers to justice. Giade said, “The anti-drug crusade is total and must be pursued with determination. While working hard to prevent the involvement of our citizens in drug trafficking, the agency will resist attempt by foreigners to smuggle drugs into the country. “The NDLEA Act applies to all culprits. We shall yet be more vigilant and ensure that illicit drugs are intercepted in our country.” NDLEA said both suspects would be charged to court soon. http://www.punchng.com/metro/ndlea-arrests-pakistani-with-n120m-heroin/

alagbatomoye:let us keep tribalism out of this. Greed and lack of patriotism cuts across all the tribes in Nigeria. What i see here is the commendable act of the NDLEA to arrest this foreigner whom cartel I want to believe must have settled some people within the agency. If all the foreigners are made to go through the same screening as Nigerians, a lot of ampethamine, heroin etc imports will be discovered. because they only focus on departures, Nigeria continues to be a transit point for these international cartels. The arresting officers deserve commendation; to think the street value is conservatively put at N120million. Lord have mercy. |

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested a 35-year-old Pakistani with 13 kilogrammes of “high grade” heroin with an estimated street value of about N120m. ^^^I'm sure the Pakistani guy's name is NOT Syed Ahmed-Bukhari but a pseudonym. Anybody - white or black that passes through Nigerian airports such as MMA in Lagos with hard drugs will be caught because of the sophisticated body scanners that will reveal your unclothedness on a screen. Unwise people who carry hard drugs should beware! |

It is good news that, security is beefing up in the arrival hall of the Airport. My experience has been that, there is no security there to mention. Once you get out of your flight, you are welcomed to hot wave of air that reassures you that, you are now in 9ja. You walk to those custom agent who absent mildly check and stamp your 9ja passport. You then walk directly into the baggage area, wait and pick your bag, the NDLEA & Custom sent standing at te exit and the ones seating in the baggage area stops you and DEMAND, 'oga wetin you bring for us' showing them enough $$$$ alway ensure and guarantee your free passage without your luggage been search. My theory is that, the Panistan man been foreign to 9ja way of 'doing business' did not tip the agents or did not give them the amount of money they were asking for, hence his luggage was searched, leading to this discovery. I have not noticed any scanner in the arrival hall or those serious looking agents you encounter in the departure side of the Airport. |

Why must tribalism make its way into every topic on NL , Ignorance is not bliss, if you are going to attack or make a comment couldn't it be done based on the individual without it involving an entire ethnic group? Gosh, it really saddens me to read some of the ignorant comments made by some members on the forum as they spew crap out of their mouth & we wonder why naija is as f'ed up as it is? The topic was about a pakistani trafficker and the minute an accomplice was mentioned, the tone of the topic changed immediately to that of tribalism. |
