Ekiti Votes N3.9 Billion For Governor’s Office, Civic Centre . by bennie1980(m): 10:38am On Mar 02, 2012
Friday, 02 March 2012 00:00 Adesina Wahab, Ado-Ekiti Hits: 31
Ekiti State Government is to spend N3.9 billion on the construction of a new Governor’s Office, Government House, Civic Centre as well as a Liaison Office precipitate Governor’s Lodge in Lagos this year.

In the detailed analysis of the 2012 Budget presented yesterday by the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Debo Ajayi, in Ado-Ekiti, the state would spend N2 billion on a new Governor’s Office in Ado-Ekiti, the Liaison Office/Governor’s Lodge in Lagos would gulp N400 million, the new Government House to gulp N516 million and a Civic Centre in Ado-Ekiti to consume N1 billion.

This is as the state government is set to change the current Governor’s Office to a hotel, the original intention of the Niyi Adebayo administration that conceived the idea.
This is as the state did not make much provision to help indigent students of the state in higher institutions across the land.
The state was silent on the provision of bursary for students, while only N2 million was set aside for the use of the state’s Scholarship Board.

The state is also to spend N110 million on capacity building for political office holders among others.

Orientation and mass mobilisation programme (village meetings) is to gulp N25 million and N50 million to be spent on sensitisation programmes on skill acquisition.

The state government is also to spend N300 million to insure its assets.

Another feature of the budget outlook is the provision of N50 million for the construction of bus stops and N450 million for the construction of walk-way and beautification of major roads in Ado-Ekiti.

This is despite the reservations of residents of the state concerning the slow pace of work on major roads.

The state government said it had tied the N20 billion it sourced from the capital market to the construction of some major roads.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has made Ekiti State the hub of its agricultural activities regarding the cultivation of cash crops in the South-West.

In that regards, over one million cocoa seedlings as well as one million oil palm seedlings will be made available to farmers this year in the state.

This is even as the Federal Government is building large silos along Ijan Road, Ado-Ekiti in support of its Food Security Programme.

Ajayi said the state would also complement that by establishing an agricultural training institute in the state and revamp settlement centres.

Why is so much money being spent on a new governors office?

Why a new liaison office in Lagos? What is the point of that?

What was wrong with the old ones?

How can you borrow money to be building these things?

This is the highest level of irresponsibility. How can you spend so much on irrelevants at the expense of poor Ekiti people.

Which one is more important:

a) Liason office for Lagos, new governors office
b) or roads?

And I thought that this governor who appointed a commissioner for Lagos affairs and chief comedian was a silly, irresponsible man.

At least a commissioner for Lagos affairs is cheaper than building a new unnecessary building. . .

Why are you people outraged about this issue? The story is the same in every state in the country. Our enemies are the leaders who need to be replaced by force. I hope the youths will find a way to do this but my guess is that the looting will continue for a few more decades.

Nigerians should stop voting for these thieves.

We have no idea in this country what governance is all about. British prime minister lives in a townhouse on 10 Downing st. Massachusetts governors have no official residence.

The Cost of governance will bring down this nation.
Re: Ekiti Votes N3.9 Billion For Governor’s Office, Civic Centre . by Nobody: 4:55pm On Mar 02, 2012
There's only so much that you can achieve when rainmakers won't allow road construction to thrive and civil servants complain when you implement federal tax laws. Old people are currently paid monthly upkeep so in terms of welfare, this government is trying.

Now I see why Ekiti State University had to increase her tuition fees as it has turned to a center of Revenue Generation for clueless government. Why on earth is he thinking of turning the present governor's office to a hotel ACN is failing mightly and now I can conclude they are not any better than their PDP counterpart. They seem even worse.

Another recipe for fraud, massive looting and embezzlement!!! There's No bursary for students and the increment of school fees of EKSU students to more than a 100k per student. Yet this govt deemed it fit to spend almost 4bn on building houses/offices which we have no direct developmental bearing on the poor populace!! They(AC of Nigeria) are not different from the PDP. God has a way of punishing their likes, its no wonder that they like chickens in foreign lands and their bodies brought home for burial! Shame on them all!!!!

^^^ says who?
unless we want to hide an elephant behind a finger, ayodele fayose is the best governor so far in ekiti despite his looting spree, he was able to contruct and implement some projects within his limited time(roads construction and expansion in various towns, beautification of the state capital, his overnight poutry project) etc

i give it to fayose anytime until any other beats him

People are hungry.
No hospital.
No light.
No jobs
Yet, they wanna spend that much to make sure the governor that has home and office, gets a better office.
God save our land
