Gunmen suspected to be members of Boko Haram have continued with their onslaught on schools as they set ablaze five different schools in separate attacks yesterday

The gunmen set ablaze a popular private secondary school owned by a Ghanaian, Success International School was raced in the early hours of yesterday before the coming of students to the school.

Witnesses said some buildings in the school which is located in Maiduguri area along railway in Jere Local Government Area of the state, were also burnt around 8am yesterday morning when the gunmen stormed the school.

Our reporter gathered that the gunmen came to the school with tires and petrol and carried out their act without any challenge. Three classrooms were said to have been completely burnt by the assailants.

At the time when this was going on, the attackers, it was gathered, also burnt down another private primary school, Sunshine Private School located in the same place. Seven classrooms were said to have been burnt down in the attack on the primary school. Daily Trust gathered that some of the pupils were yesterday turned back.

A teacher at the Success secondary school who does not want her name in print said both teachers and students resumed for daily work when they discovered that the school has been razed by fire.

The gunmen also stormed the Gwange 1 Primary School around 9pm on Wednesday night and burnt part of the school building. The assailants, witnesses said, set the junior secondary school section of the school ablaze.

Spokesman of the Borno Police Command, ASP Samuel Tizhe, confirmed the attack on a primary school in Gwange 1.

According to him, the gunmen stormed the school around 11pm on Wednesday night and set it ablaze.

However, schools across Maiduguri metropolis witnessed low attendance as many pupils shun schools for fear of the unknown. Some parents refused to allow their children to go to school for fear attack.
