Nigeria deports 33 more South Africans

Nigeria on Wednesday night deported 33 South Africans on arrival in the country through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

The Southern Africans, who arrived aboard a South African Airways Airbus A330 around 8.30pm, were denied entry.

South Africa and Nigeria are embroiled in a diplomatic feud after the authorities at Oliver Thambo Airport in Johannesburg deported 125 Nigerians on Friday, alleging their yellow fever vaccination cards were fakes.

Nigeria responded by deporting 84 South Africans within two days.

A top immigration official, who spoke with one of our correspondents under condition of anonymity, said the deportation of South Africans would continue until the problem was resolved.

However, a preventive Health expert, Dr. Abiye Kalaiwo on Wednesday in Abuja claimed the deportation of the Nigerians resulted from the recent outbreak of Lassa fever in some parts of the country.

Kalaiwo, who is also a medical practitioner with TREM Vision House medical team, faulted South Africa, saying “exportation” of Lassa fever was rare and “actual risk of infection from an imported case appears low”.

He told our correspondent said, “The recent deportation of over a hundred Nigerians from South Africa may not be unconnected with the Lassa fever epidemic.

“If true, the step may not have been necessary as an epidemic arising from exportation of Lassa fever through traveling has been rare and actual risk of infection from an imported case appears low.

“In terms of such cross border epidemics, Nigeria should naturally have more to be concerned about persons coming in from South Africa as against the reverse.”

Meanwhile, the National Association of Nigerian Students has urged the Federal Government and its South African counterpart to end the ongoing diplomatic standoff in the interest of peace on the African continent.

NAN’s National President, Mr. Dauda Mohammed, told our correspondent, in Abuja, on Wednesday that a quick resolution of the crisis would serve both countries better.

Nigeria should keep deporting them and when the feud is resolved, any South African coming into Nigeria must present HIV status card before the person will be allowed entry. Rubbish

No matter what Nigeria stand to lose,we are talking of our national pride here, so the current action of the FG is a good development no matter what some few may want us to believe. The action should continue until it is 125 deported for 125.Then we can then go back to the drawing board as in chess and draft and wait for any of their wrong move to enable us start increasing our retaliation X2

Whether they resolve the row or not, South Africans should now be required to provide HIV TEST CERTIFICATE in the interest of public health.

The HIV rate is too high there and their president thinks bathing can prevent HIV after unprotected sex. Thambo Mbeki was in denial of HIV scourge there for years.

If Naija had the highest HIV rate in the world like them, they would require HIV certificate.

The FG should review licences issued to SA companies. The sudden economic co-peration with Naija is because they have way more to gain.

The white South Africans who are still angry over the role FG played against apartheid are using SA authorities to Punish Nigerians.

Let them present HIV free certificate before entring Nigeria because almost all of them are infected.

@poster,mods and Seun,we don dey wait for this since morning when punch release the great news.please let this saga ALWAYS be on the front page ASAP.
Now as some of us would have heard, shoprite a south african" mega"firm have commenced CLEARANCE SALES.I would strongly suggest our naija govt and cbn gov to kidnly extend the same fiscal measures regarding "foreign transfers" be made applicable to South african enterprenuers in naija.in fact no company should transfer beyond $10,000 max a day and sufficient taxes should be made applicable too.
In uk,you can send into the country as much as you want but you are strictly limited to how much you can send out.IRS will be on your arse pronto.
That way, what they're making in nigeria should be spent also in nigeria and not in south africa

I Love NIGERIA!!

All south Africans shall henceforth be deported from Nigeria until such a time as we deem it fit to stop. . .

Also, all South africans in Nigeria are to produce a HIV screening Test result thats not older than 1 week at the date of entry. . .

All HIV + South Africans shall be deported or Tagged and quarantined within Nigeria. . . Nobody in Africa disrespects Nigeria and walks!

I get the feeling that the Senator who was deported back from South Africa initially has something to do with the whole issue being taken so seriously.

The equation is not yet balanced. cry

125-84= 41

Simple arithmetic, we still need 41 deportees to balance the equation then we can start afresh to negotiate. grin

Need volunteers from South Africa. wink

DEPORTATION STATISTICS AS AT 07/03/2012
Deported nigerians=129 (4 were sent back from OR Tambo airport yesterday again)
Deported south africans=121 (including 33 sent back yesterday)
Their foreign affairs minister promised to make a press statement release yesterday regarding this imbroiglo,I'm yet to see anything from them.please if anyone out there have something let's make it public.
I thank fellow countrymen supporting this move of fed govt from all the zones in Nigeria.if you've not noticed, all tribes seem to be speaking with one voice, irrespective of our religion or tribal differences.let's keep it up.
Furthermore, since the deportation is limited as at now to "from point of entry and not from within",let's live at that too. Its a cat and mouse game, but we should be fully prepared for the inevitable. This will be FIRE FOR FIRE.
I AM PROUD TO BE A NIGERIAN.

Yes this serves them right. At least for the first time Nigeira has started taking drastic measures to protect them image and dignity of her ciitzens in diaspora. Thank you Mr. President.
If it were to be former President Obasanjo, trust him he will treat it with kid gloves that he used do in the past. Remember the Libya deportation saga, and a Nigerian sentenced to death in turkey for drug traffiking.

We want  more deportation lets make it 500

They are still leading us in this match
133-121=12

We need to equalize sharp sharp with 12 more deportees.

We must not allow them win this match. They have never won us in real football match so we must not allow this happen in this deportation game. People like Yakubu in our Airports should be benched so that they wouldn`t score against us. grin

Am hoping that before the end of business today scores must have leveled.  cool

Its very unfortunate how we are treated in other countries. SA is particularly crazy. At Ghana Airport, all they did was stop the nigerian passengers, explain to them what was going on and gave everyone some injections.
Although it did take some time, but that was because of all the fake "BIG BOYS" & "BIG GIRLS" crying after taking the injection or for people who wanted to know what exactly they were taking and crosscheck from the MD's
on phone.

SA however is just plain rubbish. Deport people because of LASSA fever outbreak. NIG**RS calling blacks NIG**RS.
Re: Breaking News(nigeria Deports 33 More South Africans) by treyzo: 12:37pm On Mar 08, 2012
Nigerian are being emotional and childish. what did the nigerian government expect the south african authority to do? just to let nigerian to enter without proper document in the name of african botherwood? NO WAYS. nigeria must learn to fix it institutional problem it's the only way they will gain credibility. if you want to play the deportation game, when nigeria finish deporting all south africans, south african by that time will only have deported 10% of nigerians. they majority of ordernary south africa are congratulating their government about deporting nigerians, they realy want them out of their country, they are seen as trouble makers rather than people contributing to the development of south africa

The deportation of SA citizens is in their interest. We are saving them from yellow fever infection. Good move GEJ, For once your show you got lever.

Eish, blah blah blah, like sheep, like small children. Be carefull, there is an undertone here, The yellow fever case is not important. If I was a nigerian in sunny South Africa, well, I'll behave like a very sweet kid, wink

Re: Breaking News(nigeria Deports 33 More South Africans) by Nobody: 1:04pm On Mar 08, 2012
apart from the xenophobia governmental system in S.A, ordinary southafricans treat Nigerians like slaves in their county, they don't know we are far better than them. every Nigerian you see in the street of S.A no matter how dirty he looks has investments, mansions, cars and families they take care of here in Naija.
we are not poor like them that always complain about the white apartheid bla bla bla bla.
Re: Breaking News(nigeria Deports 33 More South Africans) by treyzo: 1:19pm On Mar 08, 2012
@991, if you nigerians are better than south africa, how are they more nigerian coming to south africa for greener pasture. and i am not talking about companies here , i am talking about ordinary people. some nigerian literally walk their way to south africa, through cameroun, congo etc. stop being emotional and be realistic. if people hate nigerian today is because some nigerians have sucessful manage to build a bad reputation for that country. fix your problem and maybe you will be treated differently
