After several encouraging negotiations between the Cameroon football federation

(FECAFOOT) and FIFA to complete Heracles Almelo’s midfielder Willie Overtoom’s switch of allegiance to play for Cameroon, the world football body issued a last-minute refusal, demanding more proof of the 25-year-old’s Cameroonian roots.

Officials from Yaounde issued the player a Cameroonian passport last year, which was subsequently submitted to the world football governing body .

Born in Cameroon, Overtoom began his professional career at Eredivisie side AZ before taking a Dutch nationality and playing for the country’s national youth squads. But he has never received a call up to the senior team.

Cameroon are striving to reinforce the outfit ahead of the qualifiers for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2014 Fifa World Cup.
