The Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) is to introduce new electricity tariff on June 1, its Chairman, Dr Sam Amadi, has said.

Amadi, who disclosed this in Abuja on Tuesday at a meeting with electricity generation companies in Nigeria, said the new tariff, tagged Multi-Year-Tariff-Order, would not affect low income earners.

According to him, the tariff would attract more investors, as power generation would increase in the country.

He said that the commission had already offered licences to more than 50 independent power producers, as part of efforts to improve power generation and distribution.

Amadi believed that engaging more power producers in the sector would ensure competition, boost quality transmission and efficiency in services to Nigerians.

One of the participants, Mr Adeyemi Adenuga, the Chairman of Geregu Power Station, said the electricity companies were ready to meet the conditions set by NERC before the new tariff regime.

He assured that the power stations would provide quality services, in line with the aspirations of Nigerians. (NAN)

Quite ironic. Especially with the absence of constant electricity supply all over Nigeria.

This due to IMF dictate to devalue the Naira.

That is why fuel prices have double and expect electricity tarriffs to also double.

This would be the same for any other service supplied by FG.

This would suggest that the Naira would be devalued to approx half its present value against the dollar.

What does this mean for the average Nigerian?

Mass impoverishment, because unless everybody that is paid in Naira currency have their wages doubled, then their salary is effectively drastically reduced.

Price of almost all goods including food would rise steeply.

Many business would close or relocate to neighbouring countries

Unemployment would rise sharply and more of our children would not be able to afford education

Unemployment and idle youth would increase crime and insecurity

I honestly believe that as soon as there is a another sharp drop in international oil prices there Nigerians would either revolt or the military would return. This may take another 5 years.

God Bless us all.
