Anthonymighty: Hey guys. I am confused right now after reading all this. In my own case, I was approved for visa on 27th of december 2012 which is some few days back. I'm suppost to pick up my visa at ikeja tomorrow. Before my interview at US embassy lagos, my passport was suppose to expire in June 2013. But now I already have a visa of 2 years on it, what do I do? Do I travel to the US with it because its an F1 visa and I am to resume in April which is just 2 months before the expiry of my passport. I don't know what to do if it is possible to extend it here with my visa on it or travel down in april and have it extended over there. Kindly advice please as this is really bothering me. Thanks

You can get a new one, you don't need to wait until it expires. Visit immigration office in Lagos there.

But I heard from a friend that I'll have to go to abuja concering the issue.Meanwhile I'll need a police report as well as an avidavit.

You need to report your passport missing to the police, they will give you a report which you will take to Immigration for another e-passport.

You can ask me any question here, i try to keep things open here to avoid false accusation

BIGER BOY: i just called a friend in the abuja immigration office now. yes you can only do a renewal from abuja, and the official cost is supposed to be 10,000 but if they know you, then you might get it at 15,000. But 50,000? thats outright extortion. goodluck

DELETED, check me out on facebook, u'll see I'm married to an immigration officer so most of what u're talking abt, I knw them. My husband has helped people. With different difficult passport issues and he's still helping. There are so many things. Abt the e passport that. If stated here, can land you in some serious problems. What you must realize is that,there are soooo many things that can happen without you coming down bt it usually cost a lot of money. If you are having any dfficulty with your passport, call ths number. DELETED. See ya!!!

Nothing should be secret about getting a passport, its only when people are planning to commit fraud that they want the discussion in private.

Renewal can only bε̲̣ done if ur E passport has expired. Bt if i†̥ has not expired, wat ull d̶̲̥̅̊o is extension. Renewal is cheap, but extension is expensive. However, if ur pp is d old one, u can get a̶̲̥̅̊ new E pp at any Immigration office close to u. Its officially 9K but they collect 15 to 18k.

Some of these issues you guys are talking about can be resolved. Go to the immigration website and seek for help or search out blogs or websites that cover detailedly these issues you are facing. I would have dropped my blog url here too but our Aggressively inclined mods will end up yanking it off.

And for those accusing people that want to help of fraud or spam, watch yourself. Not every one is a scammer.

Justwise pls assist me, according to immigration website,they said that standard Nigeria passport have a life span of 10 years with initial validity of 5 years,now my question is can they just extend it after that 5 years to another 5 years making it 10 years as stated or they will issue a new passport,because i approached embassy where i reside,they said they will extend it to another 5 years that i dont need a new one,if so will embassy accept this extension type

please, my passport was issued 22th Dec 2011, ought to expire 21st Dec 2016...meanwhile, i intend travelling to US by June 2016 for first visit, is it possible to get the passport renewed on-or-before going, or if i use it to process a visa perhaps this month of April, can the embassy favor me despite the short time of expiration?

please, i truly need your comment on this.

Embassies often require that your passport has 6 months validity at the time of travel. So if you were traveling e.g in 2 weeks and your passport expires in 2 months, that's a big problem! So you should get a new one in place.

All i saw on other Nairaland threads is the cost of RENEWING an e-passport
