Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi launches the mass production line of the nation’s newest laser-guided anti-armor missile, describing it as one of the most advanced.

“The Dehlavieh missile is one of the most advanced anti-armor missiles designed to destroy a variety of advanced tanks that are equipped with reactive armor,” Gen. Vahidi said Saturday in a ceremony inaugurating the mass production line of the weapon system.

He emphasized that the Dehlavieh’s “specific guidance system” makes it particularly resistant against any sorts of electronic warfare systems.

“The warhead and launch engine of the missile, in addition to being mobile and shoulder-launchable, makes the Dehlavieh missile system a strategic battle hardware in anti-tank warfare,” said the Iranian defense minister.

Dehlavieh is the name of a region in southern Khuzestan Province where the Islamic Republic’s first Defense Minister Dr. Mostafa Chamran attained martyrdom while personally guiding his forces against the invading armor units of the Iraqi forces in the 1980’s war the former dictator Saddam Hussein imposed on Iran.

Elaborating further on the missile’s features, Gen. Vahidi added the system was so designed to strike stationary targets on the ground as well as mobile armor targets.

He also noted that with the mass delivery of the missile system to ground forces of the regular army and the Islamic Revolution’s Guards Corps (IRGC), the anti-armor capabilities of our armed forces will be considerably enhanced.

Iran’s first locomotive manufacturing factory became operational

The first locomotive making factory in Iran was launched in Alborz province west of Tehran by the president of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to IRNA, having inaugurated and putting into operation of the first locomotive manufacturing factory on Tuesday, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad paid a visit to different sections of the factory.

The factory is aimed at making the industry indigenous with manufacturing 120 locomotives per annum, increasing the production capacity of passenger locomotives and reducing fuel consumption in transportation sector.

Presently, the total number of locomotives used for passenger transportation is approximately 130; but with exploitation of this specialized factory, Iran’s ready-to-service locomotives will total 250 (almost double the current number).

Among the specifications of the new locomotive mention can be made of the electro-pneumatic brick system, application of optimal energy control, pollution reduction, and the diesel engine based on the European standards.

Iran's Sadra Co. launches 1st Aframax tanker made for Venezuela

Iran's Sadra Co. launched the first Aframax tanker it built for the Venezuelan national oil company (PDVSA) on July 24, 2012.

An official at Iran Marine Industrial Company (Sadra) says the company has launched the first 113,000-ton Aframax tanker it has made for the Venezuelan national oil company (PDVSA) at the company's yard in the southern port city of Bushehr.

Salman Zarbi, the managing director of Sadra’s shipbuilding plant, noted that the tanker is 250 meters (m) long, 44 m wide and 21 m high and has been launched in a draft depth of 14.8 m.

The official noted that the tanker will be delivered to the Venezuelan company in three months, adding that preliminary tests on the tanker were carried out on July 23.

“Three months are needed for the remaining tests, but due to high quality of the material used in building the ship, the Venezuelan company has already expressed its satisfaction,” he added.

Zarbi stated that three more tankers are under construction at Sadra’s yard for delivery to Venezuela.

“In view of the good experience we’ve had with the first tanker, I hope the second tanker will be ready in the next 10 months,” he said.

On Sunday, April 22, Managing Director of Sadra Mehdi Etesam said the company will deliver the first oil tanker built for the Venezuelan national oil company in September.

He added that Sadra has signed a contract with the PDVSA to build four Aframax tankers for the Venezuelan side, each capable of carrying 113,000 tons of crude oil.

Aframax ships are oil tankers smaller than 120,000 metric tons deadweight (DWT) with a breadth of above 32.31 meters.

Tehran and Caracas have signed an array of agreements, pledging to work together in the oil industry, building low-income housing and assembling tractors and bicycles as well as military projects among other ventures.

Iran set to launch space ape into orbit

Published: 02 August, 2012, 05:22
Edited: 02 August, 2012, 09:29

Iran plans to send a monkey into space following the holy month of Ramadan. Despite economic sanctions and a technological blockade imposed by a US-Israeli-led coalition, the Islamic Republic is making progress in its space ambitions.

The Iranian Space Agency (ISA) plans to blast a test monkey into orbit inside its Kavoshgar-5 (Explorer) rocket later this month. "All stages of launching the Explorer with living creatures have been accomplished," ISA director Hamid Fazeli announced on Wednesday, as cited by Fars news agency.

The primate plan was first announced in March, but Tehran had to delay the launch to conduct “complementary tests.”

Earlier, Fazeli had called the launch of a large animal into space “a prelude to preparing Iran for sending a human astronaut into space before 2021.”

In 2010, Iran launched smaller animals like a rat, turtles and worms into space aboard a Kavoshgar-3. The country had hoped to launch a monkey into space in 2011, but postponed the project for unknown reasons. At the time, the project hoped to launch a monkey-manned life support capsule to an altitude of 120 kilometers for a 20-minute sub-orbital flight.

Iran successfully launched its first satellite into orbit in 2009 as a part of its ambitious space program.

Western countries expressed concerns, however, that the rocket technology will be used to develop ballistic missiles capable of delivering nuclear warheads. Tehran maintains that both its space and nuclear programs are completely peaceful, and are not being used for military purposes.

The US recently imposed a fresh round of sanctions against Iran's banking and oil sectors, as well as its overseas financial holdings. The sanctions are aimed at forcing Iran to abandon its alleged nuclear weapons program.

Iran set to launch first natural gas storage facility in Middle East: Official

The new gas storage facility will be able to supply at least four million cubic meters of gas to the national gas network.

A senior Iranian gas industry official says Iran is ready to officially inaugurate the first underground natural gas storage facility of the Middle East in Sarajeh region of the Qom province, south of the capital city, Tehran.

“Sarajeh gas storage facility represents the first natural gas storage project in Iran and the Middle East which is now holding 350-360 million cubic meters of gas,” Javad Oji, Iran's deputy oil minister for gas affairs, told Oil Ministry's official news agency, SHANA, on Tuesday.

The official, who is also the managing director of the National Iranian Gas Company, noted that after official inauguration, the facility will be able to supply at least four million cubic meters of gas to the national gas network.

Mehdi Fakour, the managing director of the National Iranian Central Oil Company, had already noted that Sarajeh storage facility consists of nine wells which are ready for natural gas injection and storage.

“The wells are designed in such a way that they hold 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas in the summertime and yield 4.5 million cubic meters of gas in four cold months of the year,” he added.

On May 5, the managing director of the Natural Gas Storage Company said Iran was planning to build an underground natural gas storage facility in salt domes near the city of Qom, which will be the first of its kind in the Middle East.

Massoud Samivand added that studies on storing gas in the new reservoir located in natural salt domes had already started, stressing that the new reservoir will be able to contain 3-4.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas.

The official stated that the construction of three underground gas storage facilities was simultaneously going on in Sarajeh region of Qom Province, Yortsha region near the city of Varamin, and Shourijeh region in Khorasan Province.

Iran unveils locally produced air defense system

By Nasser Karimi | September 22, 2012 01:39 AM

TEHRAN: Iran displayed Friday a new, all-Iranian-made air defense system, saying it was designed to confront American warplanes in case of a U.S. attack on the country.

The system was on show during a military parade in Tehran commemorating the start of the Iraq-Iran war 32 years ago.

The semi-official Fars news agency said the Raad, or Thunder, is more advanced than its Russian predecessor and is designed to confront fighter jets, cruise missiles, smart bombs, helicopters and drones.

Tehran has tried to build a self-sufficient military program since 1992. With Iran’s military leaders having said they believe future wars will be air and sea-based, Tehran has sought to upgrade its air defense systems and naval power in anticipation of such a possibility.

Neither the U.S. nor Israel have ruled out a military strike against Iranian nuclear facilities, which the West suspects are aimed at building a nuclear weapon – a charge Iran denies, insisting its nuclear program is only for peaceful purposes.

At Friday’s parade in Tehran, Gen. Ami Ali Hajizadeh, who heads the Revolutionary Guard’s airspace division, warned that the system was ready in case of an attack on Iran.

“This system is built with the aim of confronting American warplanes,” Hajizadeh said, adding that Raad carries missiles with a range of 50 km, capable of hitting targets at 22,000 meters.

He also issued a warning to Israel, saying that war with Iran would lead to the destruction of the Jewish state.

“The Zionist regime is capable of starting the war” he said. “But the final moment [of the war] will be in our hands. In that case, there will be no Zionist regime anymore.”

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who also attended the parade, defended Iran’s right to pursue a nuclear program.

“Let the world know that Iran’s great nation will defend its rights, implementation of justice as well as human dignity,” he said.

Also on display at the parade were Iranian missiles Sajjil-2 and Ghadr F-1, both capable of reaching Israel, U.S. bases in the region and parts of southern Europe.

The parade took place as U.S.-led naval exercises go under way in the waters of the Persian Gulf. They are the largest such maneuvers aimed at countering sea mines ever to take place in the region.

American officials insist the exercises are defensive in nature and not directed at any particular country.

But the U.S.-led drills are seen as a response to Iranian warnings earlier this year it could close the strategic oil route in the Strait of Hormuz in retaliation for tighter Western sanctions. Tehran has since stepped back from those threats.

Iran’s chief of staff, Gen. Hasan Firouzabadi, said Friday the country does not feel threatened by the U.S. drill, describing it as a “refreshment” exercise for naval forces “that have not moved for months.”

Iran builds world’s first VTOL unmanned aerial vehicle

Iran’s first indigenous long-range drone, Karrar

Iranian experts have succeeded in producing the world’s first vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) drone, which will be unveiled in the near future.

Sat Nov 3, 2012 8:57AM

This Iranian drone enjoys ultra-advanced technology and has been manufactured for the first time in the world, an Iranian expert in the research team in charge of building the drone, Abbas Jam, told Mehr news agency on Saturday.

He added that the drone would be tested on Saturday and would be unveiled during the 10-Day Dawn celebrations, which will begin on January 31, marking the 34th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran.

He noted that the hushed drone does not require runways at all and can take off and land vertically.

Jam added that NASA has confirmed the manufacturing of this unmanned aerial vehicle and its information.

Iranian researchers have recently designed and built a new radar-evading drone, named Liko, with the capacity of carrying 100 kg of cargo for 100 kilometers.

It is also capable of non-stop flights for three hours. The 53-kg UAV can fly at an altitude of 16,000 feet and requires the shortest landing runway length.

Karrar, Iran’s first indigenous long-range drone unveiled in August 2010, is capable of carrying a military payload of rockets to carry out bombing missions against ground targets, flying long distances at a very high speed, and gathering information.

The country’s indigenous unmanned aerial vehicle, Shahed 129, unveiled in September 2012, can carry out combat and reconnaissance missions with its 24-hour nonstop flight capability.

In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems.

Iran is world’s 14th leading electricity producer

On Line: 17 December 2012 17:59
In Print: Tuesday 18 December 2012

TEHRAN - Iran is the world’s 14th leading electricity producer, Iranian Deputy Energy Minister Mohammad Behzad said on Monday, citing the latest statistics released by the International Energy Agency.

Iran has risen two places since 2010, when it was 16th in the world in electricity generation, ISNA quoted Behzad as saying.

And Iran ranks first in the Middle East in electricity generation, he noted.

At present, Iran’s power generation capacity stands at 67 gigawatts, and it is projected to hit 70GW by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2013).

Sixteen new power stations, with a total capacity of 2.6GW, have come on stream in the current Iranian calendar year.

Currently, Iran provides electricity to Turkey, Armenia, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iraq. Iran also plans to connect its national power grid to the power grids of Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Lebanon, and India in the future.

An ScanEagle drone (file photo)

Fadavi added that the US ScanEagle drone recently captured by the IRGC in the Persian Gulf was the third aircraft of its kind downed by Iranian forces; the capture of the previous two ScanEagles had not been publicized.

Fadavi announced on December 4 that a US ScanEagle drone had been captured by Iranian forces over the Persian Gulf upon the aircraft’s intrusion into the Iranian airspace.

Iran has released footage of the captured drone, which is a long-endurance aircraft manufactured by Insitu, a subsidiary of Boeing.

Referring to the capabilities of the ScanEagle drone, the Iranian commander said the aircraft captured by Iran is able to fly for 30 hours on end.

Last year, the Iranian military also grounded a US RQ-170 spy drone while it was flying over the Iranian city of Kashmar, some 140 miles (225 km) from the Afghan border.

Commenting on the importance of the Strait of Hormuz, Fadavi said, “The Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz are of vital importance for the entire world and any insecurity in this region would threaten the world’s energy security.”

The Iranian commander added that in the current situation and given the global economic crisis, the world could not cope with an energy shock, particularly in the Persian Gulf.

The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow waterway which connects the Persian Gulf on the west to the Sea of Oman.

Statistically, the waterway is one of the world's most important shipping lanes, with a daily flow of about 15 million barrels of oil.

Iran’s Navy has developed a missile launching system which aims to increase the precision and range of anti-ship missiles.

The new system has been designed in collaboration with the Iranian Defense Ministry and Imam Khomeini Maritime University.

Given that all naval units are equipped with short-range and medium-range surface-to-surface Cruise missiles, using the new system will be a major move towards improving the missile capabilities of these units at sea.

Meanwhile, Commander of Iran Navy Rear-Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said that the missile system could be installed on all vessels and announced that it would become operational in the near future.

Sayyari said on Tuesday that Iran’s naval forces are to conduct weeklong massive exercises across one million square kilometers of southern waters as of December 28.

He said that the exercises would involve submarines, destroyers, missiles, surface and subsurface combat, torpedoes, homegrown drones and electronic warfare.

Qader coast-to-sea missile has been designed and produced by domestic industries.

Iranian naval forces have successfully test fired Qader (Capable) coast-to-sea and Nour (Light) surface-to-surface missiles on the fifth day of the Velayat 91 military maneuvers, Press TV reports.

Spokesman for the Velayat 91 naval drill Rear Admiral Amir Rastegari told Press TV on Tuesday that Qader cruise missile had successfully and precisely hit and destroyed its mock enemy target during the exercises.

“Qader coast-to-sea missile has been designed and produced by domestic industries,” the Iranian commander added.

Referring to the indigenous long-range Nour missile, Rastegari said, “Nour surface-to-surface missile is launched from surface units and is used to destroy surface targets.”

“Nour missile had previously passed all its tests with success and the new version is an optimized version of this missile,” Rastegari added.

Iran’s Navy launched the six-day naval maneuvers on December 28 in order to display the country’s capabilities in defending its maritime borders.

The specialized maritime maneuver covers an area from “east of the Strait of Hormuz in the Sea of Oman and north of the Indian Ocean as far as the 18th parallel north,” according to Iran’s Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari.

On the fourth day of the major military exercises, Iranian Navy forces successfully test-fired the latest version of the indigenous surface-to-air missile Ra’d (Thunder) and launched its indigenous short-range cruise missile Nasr (Victory).

Over the past few years, Iran has held several military drills to enhance the defensive capabilities of its armed forces and to test modern military tactics and equipment.

The Islamic Republic has repeatedly assured other nations, especially its neighbors, that its military might poses no threat to other countries, stating that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.

Iran has launched a petrochemical plant with the annual production capacity of 300,000 tons of heavy polyethylene in the western province of Kermanshah.

Kermanshah Polymer Petrochemical Plant was inaugurated in a ceremony attended by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Oil Minister Rostam Qasemi on Tuesday.

The project will create jobs for about 1,500 people and is expected to sell some USD 429 million worth of petrochemical products per year.

On Saturday, Iran launched two other petrochemical projects, namely Kavian Petrochemical Complex and the West Ethylene Pipeline in Assaluyeh, both of which are located in the onshore installations of the South Pars Gas Field.

Kavian Petrochemical Complex is the main source of ethylene for the West Ethylene Pipeline with an annual petrochemical production capacity of 2.18 million tons.

Iran has significantly expanded the range and volume of its petrochemical products over the past few years, and its National Petrochemical Company has become the second largest producer and exporter of petrochemicals in the Middle East after Saudi Arabia.

The Islamic Republic exported a total of 18.2 million tons of petrochemical and polymer products, worth about USD 14.2 billion, to more than 60 countries in the previous Iranian calendar year (ended March 19, 2012).

Iran unveils third generation fighter jets

TEHRAN, Jan. 24 (MNA) - Iranian Defense Minister will soon unveil the third generation of Iranian fighter jets, defense ministry official said.
Reports quoted Ahmad Vahidi as saying; “a new fighter jet to be unveiled soon, is designed as a bomber and performs both air-to-air and air-to-ground missions. It is fully engineered by Islamic Republic of Iran’s scientists and is considered a very important achievement for Iran.”

This will be the third generation of Iranian fighter jets unveiled by Iranian defense ministry since the Islamic Revolution in 1979. Previously, Iran Defense industry had revealed “Azarakhsh” and “Saeqeh” for first and second generation of fighter jets respectively.

Azarakhsh fighter jet

When Saeqeh fighter jet was unveiled, it had a big exposure in the military aviation industry press. Like its competitor fighter “F18”, Saeqeh has two canted vertical tails.

This new fighter jet, whose name has not been announced yet, has been designed for a new integrated avionics, coupled with new LCD monitors and intelligent flight helmets, which give pilot and co-pilot far more maneuverability time.

Saeqeh (Thunderbolt) fighter jet

The first flight test for Saeqeh was in 2004, and it was delivered to Iran Air Force in 2007.

Iranian defense industries had introduced “Tondar,” a fighter jet for the training fighter pilots before.

In the military world, designing and manufacturing a fighter jet is one of most important steps of science and technology in defense and military production and Iran, with unveiling the third generation of its fighter jets, has taken big steps in manufacturing of fighter jets.

Iran’s Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi

Sun Jan 27, 2013 10:12AM GMT

Iran’s Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi has inaugurated the production line of an indigenous short-range air defense system called Ya Zahra.

“This defense system has the capability of detecting, tracking and destroying short-range aerial targets such as aircraft, helicopters and drones,” Vahidi said on Sunday.

“Other features of the system include the capability of simultaneously engaging and destroying several targets, high operational speed and fully automatic tracking,” the Iranian defense minister added.

Vahidi added that the mobile missile system can be connected to the country’s defense network and deployed in any location.

Iran tested the Ya Zahra missile system during a massive seven-day maneuver, codenamed Modafe'an-e Aseman-e Velayat 4 (Defenders of the Velayat Skies 4), in November 2012.

Vahidi also pointed to the mass-production of the Mersad air defense system, saying, “Mersad surface-to-air missile system is an efficient and advanced medium-range air defense system which can carry out defense operations against various kinds of high-speed aircraft, helicopters, drone and cruise missiles.”

Vahidi said the system had managed to successfully destroy aerial targets in the Modafe'an-e Aseman-e Velayat 4 drills.

Over the past years, Iran has made important breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing important military equipment and systems.

Tehran has repeatedly stated that its military might poses no threat to other countries, reiterating that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.

Iran unveils futuristic-looking warplane

AFP | 8 hours ago

TEHRAN: Iran on Saturday unveiled a fighter jet, which it said was designed and built domestically, with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad touting it as “one of the most advanced” aircraft in the world.

State television footage showed the grey, futuristic-looking aircraft, code-named Qaher (Conqueror) F-313, displayed in a hangar.

The warplane “is among the most advanced fighter jets in the world,” Ahmadinejad told defence ministry top brass at the unveiling, media reports said.

Ahmadinejad said the aircraft was designed and built in Iran, and was test-flown for “thousands of hours” by pilots who are “very satisfied with its performance.”

The unveiling comes as Iran marks the 34th anniversary of the 1979 revolution, which replaced the US-backed shah with an Islamic regime.

Iran traditionally uses the anniversary period to showcase military, space and nuclear advances, against the backdrop of international sanctions.

Ahmadinejad called Qaher “a deterrent” meant to send a “message of peace,” despite its aggressive name.

Media quoted Defence Minister Ahmad Vahidi as saying the plane boasted a very low radar signature, and that “advanced materials” were used to build it.

He said, without elaborating, that it is also equipped with “advanced electro-avionics systems.”

Vahidi said the plane could land on short runways and will “meet the needs of the Iranian air force.”

The Islamic republic is subject to a US embargo which prohibits it from buying new fighter jets and spare parts for its aging air force, much of which is of American origin and was bought in a huge pre-revolution spending spree.

Iran also has Russian jets, but in past years has concentrated on developing entirely home-produced warplanes.

Tehran is also locked in a showdown with the UN Security Council over its controversial nuclear programme of uranium enrichment, and talks with world powers aimed at resolving international concerns have been stalled for months.

Ahmadinejad unveils Iran's newest combat jet

Published February 02, 2013

Associated Press

TEHRAN, Iran – Iran unveiled on Saturday its newest combat jet, a domestically manufactured fighter-bomber that military officials claim can evade radar.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said in a ceremony broadcast on state TV that building the Qaher-313, or Dominant-313, shows Iran's will to "conquer scientific peaks."

The Qaher is one of several aircraft designs rolled out by the Iranian military since 2007. Tehran has repeatedly claimed to have developed advanced military technologies in recent years but its claims cannot be independently verified because the country does not release technical details of its arsenals.

The Islamic republic launched a self-sufficiency military program in the 1980s to compensate for a Western weapons embargo that banned export of military technology and equipment to Iran. Since 1992, Iran has produced its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles, torpedoes, drones and fighter planes.

"Qaher-313 is a fully indigenous aircraft designed and built by our aerospace experts. This is a radar-evading plane that can fly at low altitude, carry weapons, engage enemy aircrafts and land at short airstrips," Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi said.

Some reports however suggest Iran's program relies on equipment supplied by major international defense contractors -- incorporating parts made abroad or reverse-engineered technologies into its domestic designs.

Still photos of the Qaher released by the official IRNA news agency and pictures on state TV show a single-seat jet. They described it as a fighter-bomber that can combat both other aircraft and ground targets.

Iran's English-language state Press TV said Qaher was similar to the American-made F/A-18, an advanced fighter capable of dogfighting as well as penetrating enemy air defenses to strike ground targets.

Physically, Press TV said, the aircraft resembles the F-5E/F Tiger II, a much older American design that Iran has had in its arsenal since it was supplied to the U.S.-allied regime of the Shah before Iran's 1979 revolution.

"Development depends on our will. If we don't have a will, no one can take us there," Ahmadinejad told the inauguration ceremony in Tehran. "Once we imported cars and assembled them here. Now, we are at a point where we can design, build and get planes in the air."

Iran unveiled what it said was its first domestically manufactured fighter jet, called Azarakhsh or Lightning, in 2007. In the same year, it claimed that Azarakhsh had reached industrial production stage.

Saeqeh, or Thunder, was a follow-up aircraft derived from Azarakhsh. Iran unveiled its first squadron of Saeqeh fighter bombers in an air show in September 2010.

The Islamic Republic of Iran will be unveiling upgraded versions of two domestically designed and manufactured battle tanks this week.

The Zolfaqar and Samsam tanks will be put on display on Monday as part of the Ten-Day Dawn celebrations commemorating the victory of Iran’s Islamic Revolution in 1979.

The commander of the Iranian Army, Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan, and a number of other high-ranking military officials will be attending the unveiling ceremony.

On January 15, Pourdastan said that the fire control system and the stabilizer of the new version of the Zolfaqar tank have been upgraded, adding that the tank will be mass-produced after receiving the approval of the office of the chief of the general staff of the armed forces.

Iran’s Zolfaqar tank has a distinctive box-shaped, steel-welded turret and is operated by a crew of three.

The tank is armed with a 125mm smoothbore 2A46 gun, which is fitted with a fume extractor. Its secondary armament consists of a 7.62mm coaxial machine gun and a 12.7mm machine gun.

The Samsam tank is said to be an upgrade of the M-60A1 battle tank.

In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems.

Tehran has repeatedly assured other nations that its military might poses no threat to other countries, saying that the Islamic Republic’s defense doctrine is entirely based on deterrence.
