A law to confer on the Senate the powers to sack an Inspector- General of Police, IGP, is underway.

The law, if enacted, will also extend the tenure of the police boss from four to five years subject to renewal for another five years.

Also, a bill seeking the autonomy of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is awaiting passage in the Senate.

The motion for the legislation on the tenure of the IGP, National Mirror gathered, was sponsored by the Senate Leader, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba.
