1. Can you tell us the purpose of Christ turning water into wine and Can you turn water into wine?

2. Do you bother to find out what issue is it with Timothy stomach and will you pray to have the same kind of issue with Timothy's stomach in your life?

Give us answers to these questions.

Emmysteve: The founder and senior pastor of Christ Embassy, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome on Sunday told all who cared to listen that since the Bible does not expressly condemn both Cigarette and Alcohol, then there is nothing wrong with these stuffs.

It all started when a viewer of his television programme wrote in to enquire from the popular pastor if it was wrong for a 'Christian to work in a Cigarette company'.

Below is the response from Pastor Chris:
There is nothing wrong with Cigarette, the Bible doesn’t say anything was wrong with it... I know a lot of people do complain about it because of the relationship attached to it with some sicknesses like cancer...but if they really believe it is wrong why not ban it totally.

It is the same thing when you have Christians working in the Breweries. The Bible doesn’t condemn alcohol. The only reference made to alcohol in the Bible is ‘do not take too much of wine’. So you see these things has to do with the individual state...if they are convince something is not good they should just ban it..."

What do you think about the Pastor’s position? Share your thoughts.

the pastor is very correct. taking alcohol is not a sin. Jesus' first miracle was turning water into wine.
wine is alcoholic. if wine is posion, Christ wouldn't turn water into wine.
there was no mention of cigarettes in the bible so i cannot comment on that.
the key is moderation. if food is not taken with moderation then it leads to gluttony - which is also a sin.

Jesus turned water into wine for many reasons including; Obedience to his mothers request and secondly keeping the party going.

Goshen360:

2. Do you bother to find out what issue is it with Timothy stomach and will you pray to have the same kind of issue with Timothy's stomach in your life?

Give us answers to these questions.

Once more, stop focusing on Timothy and look beyond. .

Jesus ate bread and drank wine at the last supper and even encouraged us to do this as often drink this in remembrance of him. . .

Did you read through my other post about Jesus and wine?!

everything we do as humans have a limit. if you go beyond the limit, then there's a problem
alcohol if taken with moderation is fine. same as cigarette, same as eating.

But the bible says he turned water into wine. "simples!". Also, wine was mentioned severally in the bible as capable causing drunkenness and there was no place in the bible where there was a differentiation between alcoholic and NON-ALCOHOLIC wine.

Well, you just told us Jesus turned water into wine and encouraged us to do so in remembrance of him. So you do you talk alcoholic wine for communion? You also gave what you "think" was the reason Jesus turned water into wine. You also answered one side of the question and left the other side of the question unanswered.

Secondly, You didn't answer my question about Timothy's stomach but systematically dodge the question. You should be honest with your answers. Answer the questions in full. They are 4 in 2 questions sir.

What are you doing in the old testament. I though we're living by grace now. If we follow that passage, then it means eating ram and drinking the same wine that Jesus turned water into is a sin.

Take a thorough look at my post again and try to understand the statements in red "And thou shalt bestow that money for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt eat there before the LORD thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thine household,"

Coogar!! (i love your User I.d)

NOW!! I'm sorry but that wasnt blasphemy at all.

If Jesus drank wine then I see no reason why he couldnt change water into wine. It was a wedding for christ sakes and if Jesus came to fulfill the law, then we could say what he did fell in line with "Ecclesiastes 9:7, “Drink your wine with a merry heart.”". I absolutely agree that were these things become a sin is when we do it in excess. There are several scriptures in the bible that supports and encourages the drinking of alcohol.

Again, Scripture does not forbid Christians from drinking beer, wine, or any other drink containing alcohol. Alcohol is not, in and of itself, tainted by sin. It is drunkenness and addiction to alcohol that a Christian must absolutely refrain from (Ephesians 5:18; 1 Corinthians 6:12).

You are very wrong on that. Wine has a deep history in the Bible. When GOD ordered that no Nazerite should drink wine, it was for a purpose. If you had honestly answered my question, it will have been obvious to you that unless for medical purpose, the only craving for wine is to get drunk...and that is a sin.

Why will any sane Christian, knowing that there are several levels of faith among us, encourage that people should drink and smoke?

Timothy had a stomach problem without a doubt that necessitated Paul writing to him to advice him to take some wine for his stomach sake. Ofcourse nobody prays for any ailment so I dont get where you are going with this. SO Timothy had a stomach problem, did the people a Cana were Jesus turned water to wine all have stomach problems?! Did the Twelve Disciples all have stomach problems when they drank wine with Jesus?! I dont get why you are hell bent on emphasising and hammering of Timothys Stomach problem and ignoring the fact that even Jesus who did not have a stomach problem drank.

Point of correction. . . Jesus didnt encourage us to turn water into wine but rather to break bread and Drink wine as often as we can in remembrance of him. . .

I use to be Anglican and our communion was alcoholic. . I believe its the same wine used by both Catholics and Anglicans worldwide. . Processed from the actual fruit of the vine in Isreal. . Not Ribena as pentecostal and other protestant churches do. . . Wine is alcoholic. . The only wine that isnt is refered to in the Bible as "NEW WINE". . . Get it!!

I hope its clearer now!

Do you read your Bible upside down or is it a case of not understanding English? Ephesians 5:18 reads: And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
Please take time out and study that passage.

Abi o! Nothing wrong with gambling, helep me tell them! Okija, how about gambling? I don't think I read anything about that in the Bible, therefore doing it is no sin, right? Same with watching pornographic movies, going to brothels and stuff (Even Judah, the ancestor of Jesus once patronized the services of an harlot - although it later turned out that the ''harlot'' was his daughter-in-law Genesis 38: 15-19) So therefore, no wahala with mingling with harlots.

Enjoyment and freedom don start!

Re: Nothing Wrong With Alcohol, Cigarette – Pastor Chris Oyakhilome? <<Rumor?>> by Ptolomeus(m): 7:05pm On Apr 16, 2012
Okija_juju: Fact: Jesus Christ never sinned, never:

"For we have not an High Priest [see also High Priest to King of The World] which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin." (Hebrews 4:15 KJV)

Fact: The first recorded miracle of Jesus Christ was changing water into wine, for people to drink:

"And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now. This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth His glory; and His disciples believed on Him" (John 2:10-11 KJV)

Fact: Jesus Christ drank wine, not only at the Passover observance every year (and, as He said, will do again in the future after His return), but at other times as well, as stated in the Scriptures:

"And He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; For this is My blood of the New Testament [see also Covenant and Testament], which is shed for many for the remission of sins. But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father's Kingdom" (Matthew 26:27-29 KJV) [see also "Thy Kingdom Come" - When?]
"The Son of man is come eating and drinking" (Luke 7:34 KJV)

Question: Jesus Christ never sinned, but moderately drank wine, even miraculously produced wine for others to consume on one occasion. How then can drinking alcohol be a sin?

Halleluyah!!

Pastor Alusi Okija!!
Versions are available that indicate that Jesus drank moderately. Others point out as a great drinker of wine (white).
I agree with you that moderate drinking is not a sin (Jesus ultimately did).
Moderate smoking, nor should it be a sin (although Jesus did not smoke)
I further understand that sex is not sin in moderation.
It was God who gave man and woman the opportunity to have sex, that you love and enjoy happiness.
In short, I believe that pastors like all other people should drink, smoking and having sex ...
With regard to drugs ... I do not know ... at least not consumption, but perhaps not a bad thing and pastors should do it ...
I thought that a pastor should be something like an example for the community, with an irreproachable conduct and a moral ideal, is essential for the correct way to teach the faithful ...
But after reading this thread ... I think pastors should claim their right to access all the pleasures of life.
Halleluyah!!

Since pounded yam is legal, how many people have you seen eating pounded yam in the middle of service. People just like to open their mouths and spew babash. And oh @Goshen360, the early church used alcohol for their Holy Communion-1Cor11:21. Read first then come and talk. Some people are really more holy than the Christ Himself, He should be praying to you lot for the forgiveness of His 'sins' should He ever commit any.
