PSG's midfield yesterday was Rabiot-Motta-Matuidi

That's 3 defensive midfielders. Motta is 34 and as slow as or slower than Mikel. Rabiot is a benchwarmer that has started less than half Of PSG's games this season. I think Matuidi is a very good player but our midfield oga here once said that he only a slightly better Ramires.

Anybody that watched that game without bias would have noticed that PSG's midfield was just as bad.

How many times did Willian and or others steal the ball and run unchallenged through the midfield to their box 18?

Just before halftime we wanted to kill them sef.

This game was lost for 3 reasons in my opinion

1. Tactical - PSG played 3DMs in the middle of the park vs Fab-Mikel and will always have the numerical advantage there. See the way those guys were playing rough, and if not that the ref was an oloshi, they should have chopped red very early in the game. We essentially played 1 DM versus 3 specialists and we're blaming Mikel?

2. They simply had to be better attack. We had almost as many chances as PSG but we just couldn't convert.

Ibra-Moura-Angel are better than our attack. That's just a simple fact. That game could have very early ended in our favour. When Costa left we didn't even know where the post was again...and Luiz was just bullying Traore like a schoolboy.

3.Yes Azpi messed up twice along with Cahill

You would see how Rabiot started his move on halfway line. Mikel was not goal side of him, doing God-knows what.

Although this picture is taken 2 seconds into the move, you can still see where Mikel is, and the gaping hole where a DM should be.

Willian sort of passes Rabiot on thinking he is about to run into Mikel's zone. Mikel had no reason not to be in position. It was not a counterattack.

Even at this stage a faster DM would have recovered the position.

However, when Rabiot scored the goal, Mikel was still outside the box jogging.

If Mikel was halfway competent the first goal would not have happened.

How does an opposing DM run from halfway line into our 6 yard box without seeing a blue shirt. . . .and no be counterattack?

I have been seeing this kind of thing happen for 4 years and someone expects me to be satisfied with Mikel in my team?

DM is a position on the pitch, not a detail to follow the opposing attacking midfielder into his own half.

What is even pissing me off is that this game could easily have gone either way.

We created more chances, had more shots, more shots on target, more shots in the box and almost double the amount of PSG's passes in the attacking third.

PSG conversely were dispossessed more times, completed less tackles, and 25% percent of their own passes were played in their defensive area.

It's obvious to even Stevie Wonder that if our attack was sharper we could have won the game. PSG were only more clinical...half the game they spent passing the ball aimlessly around in their own half...but stats will have you believe that PSG overpressed and Overpowered us.

But no Mikel must be scapegoated. I tire jare

Diego Costa taking pot shots from the edge of the box does not equate to PSG scoring tapins and spurning several one on ones with the goalie and creating overloads all over pitch that led to clean chances.

Even yesterday, Di Maria was clean through. The only one on one shot Chelsea had yesterday was Hazards rebound when Willian had squeezed a shot through 4 men.
