bosswayne: Are these universites free? Or u pay expensively? Y do we decieve ourselves ?These Universities shuld be made cheaper(affordable) for d so called church members. Most of the tithe paying members can't pay d fees its so sad

Nice concept still oyedepo but make it affordable

It should be made cheaper abi?
How much is the school fees of a UK or US university? Even in Sweden where tertiary education was tuition free, fees were introduced 2 years ago for non-EU students and the average is now 20,000 Euros per session.

We want quality standard education but are not ready to pay for it. Anyone who wants cheap education can go to the public schools. We are of course seeing the performances in WAEC and NECO as a testament to what public school education has turned to.

Instead of criticising the high school fees of private universities, why not advocate that the Fed Govt ditch the idea of selling off the Unity Schools, and fund them appropriately?

THERE IS NOWHERE IN THE WORLD PRIVATE EDUCATION IS CHEAP. So stop living in dreamland!

My Opinion
1. University system doesn't run on water you don't expect it to be cheap for everyone
2. I think we have Beautifully adorned buildings in Nigeria and hence call them Universities
3. Having studied abroad and in OAU, I conclude that there is no single WORLD CLASS University in Nigeria.
4. My Submission: Why don't all these stakeholders (building Private Unis all over the place) come together and build a single university, fully funded with state of the art facilities that will attract ground breaking research enough to position Nigeria among the comity of developed Nations. Not until them will Government really understand that Private Unis can excel where they've failed.

On a side Note: No University pays a professor N13 million in Nigeria(at least I know the ones that were in Covenant), maybe the poster wanted to say Vice Chancellor.

What is the quality of the graduates of his universities in the world? Rather than raising money through tuitions from his schools and then building more universities, he should upgrade the standards of his two universities and perhaps raise their tuition to enable him maintain standards.

Brigham Young University, Utah, a highly rated university in the US is a private school that isn't expensive, and owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saint. Their tuition is even lower compared to most state schools. This is what Oyedepo should do in the long run. For now, rather than building more schools, he should raise the standard of his 2 universities to world standard and when external funding starts coming to the school for outstanding performance, he can then start reducing the fees with that and also part of the monies generated by the church.

Guy, you are contradicting your own claims. Sweden still made education affordable at least for her citizens abi?
What is the point of claiming to build Universities that will raise standards and give quality education when the school fees charged are way beyond the reach of an average Nigerian?
Let's be realistic here, how many decent Nigerians with decent jobs can afford to pay 450k per session for their wards in school? Imagine a parent that has say 3 childrien in such University? Will such parents not be under serious financial pressure that will force him/her to compromise and indulge at their work place? Yet, we want to eradicate corruption, give equal opportunity access to quality education and standards.
Let's be real, most of these church owned Universities springing up are for profitability and not neccesssarily to better or improve any particular cause, neither are they genuinely interested in most of what they claim will be solved by the creation of this Universities.
It is even folly to argue against inclusivity and welfarism just to make room for quality and standards when the main claims of setting up these universities border on social reforms and improving standards. Let's not make it look like high school fees automatically means quality education, I understand the need for funds to drive in projects and better the standards but such cost does not have to be entirely borne by the students. The managements of these schools should look for creative ways to raise funds for University so they wont have to resort to exorbitant school fees all the time.

drills: This is great news, a church bringing great reforms that will cause nations to marvel. And for those who think 450k is expensive for a session u better ask of the average fee for kindergatten kids in Lagos per term. May God continue to bless each and every contributor who is making this happen wow
I understand your unbriddled passion for your "papa" but please do not comment if you lack the mental power to make informed argument. It makes no common sense to claim or try to justify the huge school fees charged by these church owned Universities by lying that kindergarten schools in Lagos state charge above that. Are you for real? Do you understand the enormity of such a daft claim? Which kindergarten in Lagos state does that?

Re: Bishop Oyedepo: New Kings University Under Construction by rhymz(m): 6:39am On Apr 27, 2012
While I commend the MOGs efforts I can't help but wonder why most of his interventions are elitist in nature. I mean, if this is all about improving standards, investing in Nigeria's future, building a burgeoning group of quality Nigerian leaders then there should be less emphasy on profitability and more on inclusivity not neccessarily based on welfarism. While it can be argued that quality education at tertiary level is cost intensive and almost impossible for everyone, we must be careful not to sacrifice inclusivity-even at this level-just so there can be room for quality. The problem most of our tertiary institutions have is lack of management creativity and specialization. Our management ideologies are greatly flawed just like the argument of stating that quality education is only possible if it is made available to the privileged few that can afford. If you take a good look at the American Universities in particular and the way they are run, you will see that these Universities have huge endownment fund not entirely or neccessarily from huge school fees or other traditional means of raising funds. Rather the managements of these Universities employ creative fund raising techniques that swell their endowment pool which in turn gives them greater economic stability and independence thus improving their quality and general standards, that way the cost of attainin and maintening standards is not hugely borne by the students. American Universities even seek for funds from the private sector, many of their Universities have development offices with both part- time and full-time staff that specialize in raising funds for the Universities through many techniques. Some Ivy League Universities even sell bonds to raise funds that is how they are able to raise their quality and standards without neccessarily charging cut throat school fees that makes their schools a luxury for the wealthy or super rich alone. In our own case here, the idea of a private University carries thesame old long redundant idoelogy with striking similarities with the way we run our private secondary schools where parents, sponsors and guardians always indirectly and almost entirely bear the brunt of the cost effects and processes of keeping and maintening standards and quality. If truly as these churches claim; they are building a legion of Universities that will raise quality and standards and bring it to Nigerians there by improving education in Nigeria as opposed to the orthodox idea of building a private University limited by funds only to charge exorbitant school fees that can only be paid by a very few thereby contradicting the very essense of setting up the University then we need to see some sincerity of purpose in their efforts. Currently as it is now, none of these church owned Universities are leaving up to their claims, they seem more to be verging on the idea of profit making than bettering any cause. Until an average Jo like me and very many Nigerians start seeing genuine efforts and sincerity of purpose in their claims, people will continue to sneer at their efforts and to some extent they will be justified.

Come to think of it, do these preachers ever see a rich man's child that is a witch? It is always the children of the poor that get slapped due to no fault of theirs. Let these people improve the lot of their low-income earning members by subsidizing the tuition for them. not everyone can be able to pay so much for their children's tuition.

Dont mind the gaffers. They treat their own children like eggs that cant be handlle harshly, while deprived children made deprived by the corrupt and grossly unfair system are just pieces of gabbage that can be treated like animals and demon.

I happened to run into one those nigerian high profile con bishops that relocated to yankee years back with his family. He treats his kids like normal american teenagers that are born wild, free to express themselves and dress the way they like like normal children. But in nigeria the same animal will term kids like that spoilt and possess just because they try to think outside the deluded box.

CyberG: David Oyedepo is NOT a perfect man like all humans. However, can anyone cast a stone against this deed except of course you are all mad? Wait, he did not go to lodge all his holdings and STOLEN money from Nigerians in the US, UK, Swtizerland, etc. Also, he has not sat on it saving it in the Nigerian banks! He has not embezzled pension funds, rigged himself into "power", advocated removal of subsidy after stealing the entire nation blind!?

He has multiple investments that employ at least 1 person in Nigeria and has not asked you to bail him out when time comes to pay the salary. In fact, he has contributed more the Nigerian economy more than all you critics will do in a million generations and you abuse him while Maduekwe fucki.n Jonathan steals all your money and uses his rigged power to impoverish you further. Now you must see something is wrong with Nigerians. Wait: he is investing billions of Naira to build a university in Nigeria for Nigerians and if only the useless government ran the country well, private universities could be an avenue to earn foreign exchange by having foreign students enroll at the university. This creates jobs for thousands of people who are jobless, provides education for people who will need it and if intensive research is incorporated, all these can only be good for the country. So, why are you useless nonentities still complaining? If you are so sure you've got something against him, why NOT confront him personally and tell him your mind? I believe he is in Sango Otta most Sundays.

Most Nigerians have designed themselves to suffer, neglecting their own gifts and resources but glad-handling the little they have to me, foreign governments and foreign institutions in Oyinbo land! angry angry

God bless u!

HOW T.A ORJI EMERGED GOVERNOR ABIA STATE

Ever since TA Orji was booed in several occasions in Abia, his hirelings have gone berserk, hiring pages of newspapers and websites, linked directly to the government of Abia State, with public funds to intimidate, blackmail and malign the families of his perceived opposition members, especially the person and office of Ochiagha Reagan Ufomba, the APGA governorship Candidate in the 2011 election. Ufomba’s party, APGA, from all the facts emerged the winner.
However most of the other party heads have refused to play the gutter game with such lowly characters. For one, everyone knows where their journey into government in 2007 started from. Still unable to purge selves of the hang-over associated with such lengthy public withdrawal, we cannot but pray for them with pity. This makes the Abia State case a very pathetic one.
Abians cannot be left to die in altruistic pity for a bunch who knows next to nothing in the art of governance. They also cannot be cowed into submission or intimidated into abandoning the onerous task of CHANGING ABIA into a 21st century State. In our opinion, enough is truly enough!
The people have vowed never to be distracted, but to continue in the defence of the mandate that was NOT given to TA Orji. No amount of name calling or intimidation can stop the people of Abia from attaining their destiny.
Facts, they say, is sacred. In this piece you will read about how T.A Orji emerged governor of Abia State as opposed to his media postulations and utter contravention of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) of the Federal Republic of

Nigeria. Recall how he emerged a candidate of the PDP without being a registered member of that party; without party card, and without due process. He was simply elevated and decorated with the rank of Deputy Governor by the Court of Appeal, case closed? But everyone in Nigeria knows that the Court of Appeal erred; and that TA was never a member of the PDP, he was a Civil Servant and only appointed a Chief of Staff. A position he held till he was smuggled into government house by former governor Orji Uzor Kalu under the banner of the PPA in 2007. He therefore could not have “found his way back” into a political party he never belonged to ab-initio. This flagrant disrespect to our laws must stop if Nigeria must move forward. If the powers that be in this country so desperately need TA in governance, must it be at the level and times when his crash would mean a crash of over 3million innocent Abia people? An Ambassadorial position to somewhere in Israel, where he would meet face to face with God Almighty would have done Abians a world of good.

2011 GOVERNORSHIP RESULTS

We shall publish real election results as collected by our field agents in the 17 Local Government Areas of the State next week before they were doctored into a shameful one man show. A result rejected by all 17 governorship candidates and signed by only 1 out of the 18 party agents in the State. Does the above verifiable results show that TA won or can ever win election in Abia or in any

form corroborate their lies over moon slide victory? The post election peace of the graveyard that existed after a historical display of impunity would have been sustained had TA Orji not embarked on a dangerous perdition of pointing accusing fingers on innocent persons, a very unstatesmanly conduct and outright demonstration of bad faith.
Before the elections some youths were ferried to the house of a prominent PDP member in Obingwa Local Government with seven (7) Abia line buses to thumb print ballot papers in favour of the PDP. INEC and the security agencies were alerted of this ugly development. This warning was to be proved right when after the election already stamped, signed, and thumb printed ballot papers and boxes littered the streets and bushes of Abia. Some of the already thumb printed and stamped ballot papers in booklets are:

It is no longer news that so many ballot boxes were discovered in the bushes of Abia with electoral materials intact. In the case of ballot box Number AB/06/07/014 the content includes one bottle of La Casera drink, one Gala sausage roll, a predetermined result in favour of PDP. Ballot papers in other units were either snatched or burnt or torn to shreds. Some of these cases were captured with cameras, videos and reported to various police stations in the state.

Before this fraud called election, some youth corp members who served as ad-hoc staff in the State had petitioned the then commissioner of police over threats and inducement by some PDP members, candidates and Transition–to-eternity Chairmen. An “endorsement” buffet meeting was held in the house of one of the former commissioners for Information in Umuahia where each invitee was given the sum of N10, 000.
In a petition dated 1st of April 2011, titled “Treat to peaceful conduct of election and request for adequate security” the corps members narrated how they were hosted and incentivized to rig the election in favour of the PDP or face mayhem. Not willing to do their bidding, the corps members taped the discussions at the meeting and petitioned the commissioner of Police requesting for protection since they were determined to work according to the dictates of their conscience in contravention of the accord reached at the meeting.

It is on record that the independent monitors roundly condemned the election in Abia State in the following words: “Electoral materials could not get to many polling centers early, turn out was low, there was intimidating presence of war-like soldiers; in units 011,012 & 013, 017, 018 and 019 there were absence of result sheets; i.e. form EC8A while in some units, hand written voters register peopled by PDP faithful were used. This was the case in most Local government areas. Party officials were seen giving out cash to voters, food and gift items

were given freely. In Asa road units 1-5 an APGA agent was beaten up for refusing to accept cash in the presence of two police officers (names withheld) numbers 371829 and 164981. It was the same in the whole of Aba area”.

Despite reported low turn–out of voters, T.A Orji had the following results: Number on queue for elections 100, PDP scored 535, APGA 64. This is 435 votes more than the total number that turned out for the election. Going by the number that turned out for election it is clear that APGA won here and in all similar cases, having scored 64% of total votes cast. Recall we had 18 candidates in this election. In similar cases, number on queue 150, PDP 585, APGA 77; Number on queue 140, PDP 320, APGA 91. When TA is not winning outlandishly he mocks democracy with results such as this: Registered voters 552, Accredited 552, number on queue 552, T.A Orji 550, other parties 0. In this unit (Nbawsi) alone over 20 persons known to us had died, another 40 who had travelled, and another 90 are absentees that could be identified. In Umunpkeyi registered voters were 402, accredited number was 400, number on queue was 400 and PDP got 392. In Umuchima voters were 413, Accredited was 400, number that turned out was 270 and PDP got 335 votes. In Ngwa Ukwu 201 turned out for the election and PDP got 265 votes; Same for Ama-Abuo where PDP got 298 against 150 on queue. This is just a tip of the iceberg on how T.A Orji emerged Governor of Abia State. Even one of the candidates whose logo did not appear on the ballot papers was allocated votes. There is no doubting the fact that Abia people rejected him at the polls by voting APGA, still TA claims victory. Need we still ask why rejection still trails him?

As at last count a total of 120 petitions from the over 500 former specially recruited Special Assistants have been received on how they rigged elections in favour of TA in Abia State. This is in addition to the 286 reports from the field agents. You will spit after reading some of them.

T.A Orji is challenged to refute these; and take further steps to declare his assets before becoming Chief of Staff in 1999, after his tenure as Chief of Staff in 2007 and his net worth in 2011 after his first tenure in office as governor. He should tell the world how many houses he has acquired, forcefully and otherwise, at Azikiwe Road, Umuahia alone, when he bought them, how he bought them, and where the money came from. He must explain to Abians why he has not conducted Local Government elections since assumption of office in 2007 in contravention of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), and where the

local government funds accruing to the LGAs running into trillion is, and why he should not be compelled to return those funds to the peoples of the various Local Governments councils. He must explain to the world what he does with the breath taking security vote running into hundreds of millions monthly in the face of mounting poverty and unemployment and, according to him, “dwindling economic fortunes and allocat orsening insecurity in the various Councils in the State. It was in continuation of this abuse of office that he unilaterally sacked a supposedly elected council Chairmen, whose sack can only happen by way of impeachment.

In the forefront of this journey to liberate Abia is highly principled Ochiagha Reagan Ufomba. His character has been impugned, maligned, thrashed and stumped on by Orji’s government for questioning these societal ills, but, Ufomba has consistently maintained his position: Change in Abia, come rain or shine. Ufomba showed emotion when he spoke about the state of Abia. “It’s not about me but about that family who doesn’t know where the next meal would come from. It is about that Ariara trader who buys but can not sell. It is about that farmer who produces but cannot export. It is about that widow who does not know where her children’s school fees would come from, About that graduate-turned Okada rider, About the teeming unemployed youth, About that young girl who has been driven into prostitution because Abia can no-longer provide for her, And about that worker and pensioner who do not know when their next salary would come. About the deplorable state of our roads. And about a hopeless future. Aba and Abians have for long been the brunt of bad government policies for decades. The only relief was during the Mbakwe administration. At this moment, Aba has gone back to pre-Mbakwe days. When I see the deplorable state of our infrastructure, level of human capital developement, energy and basic government, I become more convinced that my 12-point agenda has the potency to bring Abia back to life.”

Ufomba was emphatic as he reiterated that this fight is neither about TA nor him. “it is bigger than any single Abian. In less than 3 years TA will be out of office, if not before. The fight would continue even post me. All am asking Abians is to come out en masse and join the Changeabia crusade. Their numerical strength will overwhelm the negative forces that are propelling Abia toward the abyss.”

stagger:

It should be made cheaper abi?
How much is the school fees of a UK or US university? Even in Sweden where tertiary education was tuition free, fees were introduced 2 years ago for non-EU students and the average is now 20,000 Euros per session.

We want quality standard education but are not ready to pay for it. Anyone who wants cheap education can go to the public schools. We are of course seeing the performances in WAEC and NECO as a testament to what public school education has turned to.

Instead of criticizing the high school fees of private universities, why not advocate that the Fed Govt ditch the idea of selling off the Unity Schools, and fund them appropriately?

THERE IS NOWHERE IN THE WORLD PRIVATE EDUCATION IS CHEAP. So stop living in dreamland!
the

I stand to say that for the uninformed critics who can't see anything good in this man's effort to reach out to this generation...think again! My younger brother is studying on a 100% scholarship @ one of the universities right now. My family can not afford the high fees now, but that has not stopped us from being beneficiaries. I was myself given a scholarship @ the inception of Covenant University, that I am not a product of that school today is because i got my notice late and my admission was deferred N.B(It was also 100% scholarship), and since Jamb had already Jambed me several times, I could not wait one more year.

You may not realise what I mean by 100% scholarship... I mean I'm not from a rich family, we're just dedicated members of the Living Faith Family. My parents both work for the Federal Govt and could not @ some point afford A State-Owned University . So before anyone starts talking of church Tithes, offerings et al, I urge dem to THINK AGAIN!!!

If u av no substance to offer as a result of the fact that you are one of those who quarrel with success when they 're themselves unable to dream or attain heights, why not just shut your trap instead of casting aspersions on people and a Man of God for that matter. Even if you do not believe in yourself, I'm sure you do believe in something or someone- a being higher than you. Well if you do, this man Bishop David Oyedepo is his anointed until otherwise proven on the last day! So just STOP bringing curses on yourself.

Your conclusion is because they are fast and expensive you are well taught right? The painful part really is that most Nigerians do not understand what standard mean however, their relative definition of it makes me cry for the future of the nation.
