Update

Last week, we visited Ayomide to have her enrolled in school, check how she's faring and update on her grannies petty business. After a lot of going back and forth, one of the schools in the community grudginly accepted her as a student, to start from pre-nursery(creche), we paid for the fees and for other things she'll need.

As already accounted for, nlders bought a cassava grinding machine for the granny and also a petty articles stall for her. This was done in view that having a stable source of income as opposed to peeling cassava for a paltry sum that couldn't feed anyone, would make the granny concentrate and dedicate herself in taking care of her grandchild, Ayomide.

Its been 1 week now and we've had reports ranging from "we can't handle the girl, she's different, she's too skiny etc" from the school and moreso, on our last visit, we are honestly not too impressed with her physical progress, we are therefore, thinking, planning and working towards getting an alternative "accomodation or home/care" for Ayomide.

Its a really hard task but we'll keep everyone updated as we go because without you all, none of this would be possible.

Pictures and expenditure from this visit would be attached soon.
Regards!

@ Ify, does Ayomide's care include any sort of visits to a paediatrician? I think this should be an important component part of her care for now.
Re: Please Help Ayomide - An Abandoned Child by ifyalways(f): 3:26pm On Oct 10, 2012
We didn't see a paediatrician but we met a doctor, which was not easy.

There are no hospitals in her village, all they have is a tiny health centre. The first hospital we went, in another village, we met no doctor on seat/call. We went back on another visit, was able to see a doctor after a very long wait.

Getting her to see a specialist would involve bringing her to lagos.

Hmmmm.........given her medical history, i think seeing a paediatrician is the next appropriate step. I understand the difficultly you mentioned but I am just wondering if there's a way to circumvent those challenges. Wish I could do something..........where's the village again?
Re: Please Help Ayomide - An Abandoned Child by ifyalways(f): 3:45pm On Oct 10, 2012
Her village is just before Abeokuta(please understand that I have to maintain a lil'privacy). We are not resting yet, we hope to be able to bring her to lagos soon to get her a better care which now would include seeing a Ped.

Thank you.

Ok, I have a doctor friend at the Federal Medical centre in Abeokuta. I can call him to do this as a favour to me, y'all wont have to take her all the way to Lagos.

If it's doable I'll discuss with my friend and mama can take her on regular visits saving you guys the stress until the doc is happy.

Dear nairalanders, courtsey of Naijababe, tehn was able to take Ayomide to see a pediatric doctor at abeokuta.

He examined her and prescribed the following drugs for her :
Pink camosumate
Syrup Paracetamol
Syrup cefuroxime
Syrup zolat
Syrup Riconia
Wat on blood tonic
There is an epidemic of measles @ Ayomides village so we are also getting her drugs for that. The doctor recommended a couple of tests and an x-ray too.

With the doctors help and network, we are believing God that soon, we will get a "home for special children" that would take her in as the grandmother, though she's trying her best, can't take adequate care of her.

We will be sending the drugs ASAP and working on moving her to a better home.
Our very special thanks to Naijababe.
Dr Ayilara of "egba medical centre, Isabo" and Dr fadeyi of "sacred heart hospital, lantoro" abeokuta.

Regards,
Tehn.

2 vitamin A syrup:1100
2 paracetamol syrup:200
1 calmine lotion:200
2 augmentin 475mg syrup:4600
1 zolat syrup:100
1 seven keys to power: 300
2 cefuroxime syrup:2100
2 buckets of custard:1400
2 coflin linctus syrup:700
1 tin of oldenburger milk :1600
1 tin of milo: 1700
Total spent :18,300
Total available:18,800
