Delta to Build Motor Assembly
Plant, Partners with China

The Delta State Government has
disclosed plans to set up a motor
assembly plant in the state.
The Economic Adviser to the
Governor, Afam Obiago, said this
on Monday when he led a
delegation of Chinese investors to
see the Obi of Issele-Uku, Henry
Ezeagwuna.
According to Obiago, the state will
partner a Chinese company to
build the motor assembly plant in
the Aniocha North Local
Government area of the state, as
part of the public-private
partnership initiatives of the
government.
“The choice of Issele-Uku is
informed by the centrality,
proximity and availability of land
in the community. When the plant
becomes fully operational, it will
create jobs for the people and
open up the state to economic
growth,” he said.
Vincent Eborah, who led the
Chinese investors, said that the
state was “fertile for investments
because of the existing security,
peace and tranquillity".
He added that the Chinese
company would train youths
around the state for employment
as technical personnel for the
maintenance of vehicles.
“The parent company, China
Machinery Engineering
Corporation, will supply spare-
parts for a period of 10 years,’’
Eborah said.
The Company’s Commercial
Manager, Chen Jian, said that the
plant would assemble pick-up
vans, mini-buses, tricycles and
passenger cars, among others.
The traditional ruler thanked the
delegation and assured them of
the community’s cooperation.
