Posted on May 8, 2012 by Prince Charles Oforkaja In recent research, Igbodefender.com, the Igbo-Afro American online think tank, has found some amazing similarities between Igbo and Japanese words. Check out some of our findings below: 1.Naka (Japanese name) Odinaka (Igbo name) 2.Owari (Japanese town) Owerri (Igbo town) 3. Chikamatsu (Japanese name)Chikadibia (Igbo name) 4. Obuchi (Japanese name)Onyebuchi (Igbo name) 5. Ikeda (Japanese name)Ikedia (Igbo name) 6. Be (ancient Japanese word for community) Be (Igbo word for house) 7. Abukuma (Japanese town)Akuma (Igbo town) 8. Obama (Japanese town) Obama ( Igbo town in Rivers State, near Kalabari) 9. Naze (Japanese town) Nanze (Igbo town) INDIRECT SIMILARITIES 1.Chichi (Japanese town)Chichi (Igbo name) 2. Ofunato (Japanese town) Ofu na ato (Igbo phrase meaning ‘One and three’). 3. Osaka (Japanese city) Osaka (Igbo name) 4. Mandokoro (Fujiwara family administrative centre) Okoro (Igbo name) 5. Ugo (Japanese town) Ugo (Igbo name) 6. Iheya (Japanese town) Ihe ya (Igbo phrase meaning somebody’s property) Our theory is that there was some ancient cultural exchange between these two enterprising peoples. Igbodefender.com has made more progress in this study, but due to ongoing research, we cannot say much at this time. This is Resourceful Equianoism. Your Prince Charles Oforkaja seems to have nothing better doing with his time. Yes, some of the syllables sound similar but that is about it. |

This is truly amazing. Check out the Japanese word 'ofunato' which has an Igbo phrasal counterpart. Look at the words Chichi, Osaka and so on. Igbos need to join Igbodefender to find out what's going on here. Is this why both groups are so enterprising? Is there a link? Kudos to the Defenders. 2 Likes |

Hmmm... I'v noticed d similarities b4 now. And considerin dat Europe was afraid of d rise of Biafra in d late 60s cos they knew we'd become d Japan/Taiwan of Africa, it's beginnin 2 make sense. Meanwhil, as par culture, we'r more related 2 Israel. Or do I say they'r more related 2 Ndi Igbo? Every1 knows dat d human race began in Africa, so we must b their origin, their genesis. So NO, we cant abandon our Israeli brodas 4 our Japanese cousins. He he he... 3 Likes |

Modphase: First of all, you are not good at giving advice. You lase your advice with so much insults that it becomes a pathetic, counterproductive and ironic exercise. Secondly, what's your own? Since you have already described Igbos as pathetic, why are you now giving us 'kind' advice? It would have been better if you had come up with facts to disprove the truths up there. But no, you come up with insults. Why didn't you just waka pass, since you have nothing scholarly to use to disprove? What are you afraid of? Abeg waka pass, and we don't need your insulting and patronizing 'advise'. But you.can come back with facts for or against. Bye. |

Afonjas will invade and start posting Yoruba similarities as if Igbos are competiting with them. Open your own thread but you know nobody wants to look at yoruba threads, not even yorubas. Anything Igbo, they jump in. SMH |

'Obama' is actually an Ijaw town located in Okrika, Rivers state. For the umpteenth time Okrikans are Ijaws and not 'Igbo near Kalabari'. Let's respect each others ethnic affiliations and concentrate in what unites us. NB: 'Obama' is actually 'Oba-ama' AND Ijaw have no ancestral relationship with the Japanese or any Asian group |
