Why dont u all just get glo modems or something?

Depending on which part of lagos or elsewhere you are, there are WISPs that offer community/estate packages.

the idea of a neighborhood ISP is a good one. It will help in reducing overall internet costs. In ancient times, VSAT will have been the preferred medium of connection, however, with advances in modern technology and the emergence of the telecoms providers, i think an E1/T1 2Mbps Microwave Link from MTN or Glo will suffice. You can have a direct link setup to a base station with a fiber backbone. That takes care of the internet gateway. For distribution onwards to the houses, you can have wifi access points setup with WPA-PSK encryption and MAC authentication to block unauthorized users. For the wifi hotspot management, you can use Mikrotik OS. Its the best software/hardware technology i know for Wireless Hotspot Mgt.
