Thank God for Nigerian writers for producing great works of world class literature winning prizes competing with the best in the world unlike other Nigerians in other disciplines who continue to lag behind.

Even though the quality of education in Nigerian schools at all levels is pathetic, Nigerian writers have been able to overcome the challenges of corruption, maladministration and insecurity to produce great writings in prose, poetry and drama of these interesting times.

Over 200 novels have been presented to the panel of judges for the 2012 Nigeria Prize for Literature sponsored by the Nigeria LNG Limited. And our new books have been receiving high ratings among highly esteemed literary critics in America and the UK. I wish Nigerians in music, movies, economics, academics, sports and other occupations can do the same to make Nigeria proud.

Our movies are still substandard B movies, and now two Nigerian writers have come to the rescue of Nigerian movies with the adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's novel "Half of A Yellow Sun" by Biyi Bamidele Thomas to make a film that will definitely take Nigeria to world class level in motion pictures. A single movie can make more money in a single year than a big Nigerian bank. No Nigerian bank can boast of making over $700 million in one week as The Avengers blockbuster movie has made at the cinemas worldwide.

Our manufacturing industry has collapsed due to corruption and bad government.
Our sports is a shadow of the golden era of the 1970s, 80s and early 90s.
The music industry has collapsed and taken over by few label owners making more noise than sense called Nigerian hip hop, but most of these desperate copycats releasing local parodies of Western hip hop are intellectually retarded youths who are mostly hailed by their equally intellectually retarded fans of dummies and id-io-ts whose mass failures in local examinations make headlines. Then one of their celebrated clowns called his former producer, the best producer in Africa! What a joke! That shows how intellectually retarded they are. His Don Jazzy is not even the best music producer in Nigeria when the genius Cobams Asuquo is not even bragging on Facebook and Twitter like these hip hop tongue twisters pretending to be singers. Even Tee Mac would smirk at these illiterates of music.

The public office is the worst of them all since the corrupt and incompetent politicians have destroyed the Nigerian government and they are so shameless.

The systemic collapse of Nigerian education is caused by maladministration. The kleptomaniacs in government have misappropriated the revenue allocations for education and used the stolen public funds to build their own private schools and build estates for their cabals and families and deprive the poor of quality education, to prevent majority of the poor from giving their children good education to disable them in the dog eat dog competition in Nigeria. But Nigerian writers have gone ahead of them to do the best for Nigeria and the solutions to the problems are even provided in our books, but since majority of Nigerians don't read, they have failed to use these solutions and continue to grope in the darkness of their ignorance.

Nigerian writers gave Africa the first Nobel laureate in Literature, Prof. Wole Soyinka and the Philosopher King of African Literature Prof. Chinua Achebe and many other illustrious writers of multiple awards winning books in Nigeria and overseas.
Nigeria would fare well if other Nigerians in other occupations will emulate us to excel in the nation building of a New Nigeria in the leadership of Africa in the world.
Go and read our books and you will see the solutions to all the problems of the Nigerian anomie.
