The scripture you referred to (John 4:23) is loaded; and for me, worship is simply the response of a believer to the revelation that God has given of Himself in the Person of His Son, Jesus Christ.

Worship is Agreement with God, acknowledging His Will, his Attributes, and the GAP between OURSELVES and HIMSELF.

. 2^nd CHRONICLES 16:9.

9. "For The Eyes of The LORD
run to and fro
throughout the whole Earth,
to shew Himself strong
in the behalf of (them)
whose heart (is)
perfect toward Him.
Herein thou hast done foolishly:
therefore from henceforth
thou shalt have wars."
