THE first batch of 37 components of gas turbine for the Delta State Independent Power Project (IPP) has arrived Oghara, Delta State, the site of the project. The second batch of the consignment is said to be at Onne Port, Rivers State. Journalists on tour of the site on Monday were told that contract for the reconstruction of the Oghara-Ajagbodudu road including a bridge to the project site had been awarded to enable the movement of the equipments to the site. Briefing newsmen in Oghara, the Secretary to the state government and former Commissioner for Energy, Comrade Ovuzourie Marculay, said the 37 components which are now at the Ibru cold room complex in the town could not be transported to the site because of deplorable roads. Comrade Marculey dispelled allegations by critics especially from the opposition parties that the IPP site has been taken over by weeds and the project itself was a ruse. At the site, located in the swamp, construction of access roads and pilling was in progress. The IPP project which is expected to produce over 240mw of electricity and initiated by the former governor, James Ibori, has been on the drawing board for some years now. But the Uduaghan administration has vowed to complete the project to increase electricity supply in the state.
