Gov.Rochas Okorocha receives Lifetime Achievement Award in Turkey.

In other positive news, Governor Rochas Okorocha was recently awarded the Diamond Lifetime Achievement Award by the Yildiz Teknik University, Turkey. The honour was made in recognition of Governor Okorocha’s efforts in pioneering FREE EDUCATION for the less privileged in Nigeria.

According to information contained in a Press release made available to IMO STATE BLOG, Yildiz Teknik University disclosed plans to enter into an exchange programme with the state to train our youths in several engineering fields as well as explore the possibility of setting up a campus in the state. The management of the institution stated that Gov. Okorocha was selected based on his outstanding contribution in promoting education and religious tolerance.”

In his acceptance speech, Gov. Okorocha, dedicated the award to the less-privileged and called for closer cooperation between Nigeria and Turkey. He also pointed out that both nations shared a similarity in their aspiration for growth and to improve the lives of their people adding that quality education was one of the secrets behind the rapid development of Turkey. He stated that Nigeria required foreign assistance to address its energy problem but warned that only serious firms will be considered as the days of “briefcase contractors” were over in Imo State.

“The days of briefcase contractors are over. There are great business opportunities in Imo state for Turkey investors to make profit if they are genuine. We don’t need money, aid or grant rather partnership to unlock the human and natural potentials of our people. We no longer need economic girlfriends but wives”

Governor Okorocha who was on an Economic Mission to Turkey promised that his administration would continue to develop world class infrastructure and put in place enabling policies to attract foreign investment for employment and rural development.
Rector of the institution, Prof. Ismail Yuksek praised Gov. Okorocha’s achievements barely one year in office and charged him to continue his quest for rapid human and infrastructural development of Imo state.

Also speaking at the Ceremony, Director-General of the Nigerian-Turkey Chamber of commerce and Industry, Dr. Hyacinth Eche said that the choice of Gov. Okorocha for the award was made after an exhaustive search for worthy Nigerians. He called for greater cooperation between both countries.

The Award comes as an International endorsement for the FREE EDUCATION programme. It is worthy to note that the Yidiz Teknik Univeristy (Yildiz Technical University) is one of the seven government universities in İstanbul. Founded in 1911, it is listed as the third oldest university in Turkey. It is also regarded as one of the best universities in Turkey.

He did. Education is now free in Imo state and will surely yield dividends in the long run because of the value people place on education there. In fact, he first laid the foundation in Kano but to no much avail because of the less value people place on "western education" there.

I think the award has little or nothing with what he's doing in Imo state but has a lot to do with the free educational scheme he introduced in his school that are scattered all over Nigeria giving hope to the less privileged.
