lets try to come up with name for fruits in Igbo
and maybe foods in general.
Ever noticed how much English we add to our Igbo?
for those that do not know
lets learn from here.
Like i would say, am not an authority
so i'll be learning mostly from contributions

LOL but what really is the name of that fruit that everyone calls "Fruit" ? Its red when ripe,you eat the fleshy outside,crack open the nut and out pops a sweet hidden goody. . .hmmn childhood

Here are some more fruits, vegetables, and nuts:

orange - ujiri
native fig? - udara
avocado - ubo bekee
oil bean - ugba (aka) ukpaka
plantain - ukam
mango - popo
coconut - aki bekee
palmfruit - nkwu
peanut - asiboko
melon - egusi
palm kernel - aki

@Odumchi,do Aros use nkasi for cocoyam?Thats quite something,Onichans do too but i think the central Igbo is ede.

Yes we call it 'nkasi' too, lol. Oops I made a mistake, I was referring to garden egg instead of eggplant.

Yes,Udara is cherry.@ Odunnu,just call the ugiri "giris" like the white man would do.

@Odumchi,dunno ya song.The most popular udara song is:
Udara m too,nda
too too too,nda
nwunye nna m oh,nda
gote/zuta udara n'ahia,nda
racha racha racha,nda . . .
The theme was from the story of an orphan that was maltreated by the step-mom,she planted an udara seed by her moms grave and it grew to a tree of gold/treasures/sweet udara fruits(twisted depending on the story teller) that the king ate and married the girl.
