The Acting Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Abubakar, has vowed to sack more policemen found to be corrupt in the discharge of their duties.

Abubakar said this Monday when he visited the Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola at the State House, Ikeja, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.

The police boss said he was ready to change the face of the police force, saying that during his tenure, corruption would be a thing of the past.

“I have told my officers, those willing to go with the new change, qualitative service, zero tolerance to corruption will remain the hallmark of our duties..

“Anybody not willing to go with the change will fall by the road side,” he said.

Abubakar disclosed that 50,000 policemen were on the verge of being retrained as part of capacity building for police officers.

He added that 15,000 of those to be retrained would be trained on intelligence policing while 10,000 others would go for detective training.

“In any country in the world, you cannot achieve anything without intelligence gathering and this, we want to take seriously. I will do my best and I promise to change the police force,” he added.

Abubakar decried the poor welfare of police officers, saying there was no way they could perform better under such condition and promised that things would change.

He also disclosed that 300 patrol vehicles had been released for the police to monitor major highways in the country to foil incessant robbery attacks and other crimes.
