flagship: Buckle your shoes! We Are Coming To Take Over!!
Flagship. U wanna take over with a lighter? Good luck with that. But I'd advice u pull up ur bootstraps and get a rope for ur pants if ur belt aint gonna do. This CG thing aint no joke. It takes more than just excitement to achieve something. Unless u want keep rendering lighters for d whole year. Then u just might take over something.

Dark-sider. I dont think I want to wipe anyone off any radar. I am hoping they improve and become ambitious instead. That way we will have more competent and adept hands on the CG landscape. And in so doing, the probability of one of us having a great idea, that will project the Nigerian CG industry to the world, will improve copiously.

Lol. anyways, I am about to jump into animation and visual effects after months of modelling and rendering and years of photomanipulations smiley In order to jump-start the program, I am considering going to an animation school as soon as possible.

Never been a fan of going to school to study design things, but I want to learn standard, industry-strength animation and compositing. Self-help would take far longer I can afford.

I find the arts highly exhilarating. Hopefully, by this time next year, I should be posting shorts and stuff.

Anyways, I hope you guys learn more, experience more. if I ever get to be in a position to help,I will.

cheers

@dark-sider, you have little experience in my Field to understand.

I don't use the standard type of computer for animation and rendering (to give you a hint).

Windows OS systems are the standard. My production system is above standard.

It will not be proper to answer your post because you in-fact do not no what you are talking about.

Check your UV mapping. The textures look really spooky. Also, try and use the compositor. That way, you can do a separate pass for the lighting. Well, done Blender.

Re: Setting Standards In 3d Animation In Nigeria by smedlab: 11:07pm On Feb 25, 2013
velociraptor: well, i started this topic after going through series of animated clips or reels done by nigerians so far. really am disappointed in most of what i saw. it is as if the 3d artist are after the title of being the 1st person to publish nigeria's 1st 3d animated reel or movie. if we keep doing this, we 're definitely sending out a bad impression to the international community.

Thank you thank you thank you hank you thankyouthankyou!!!!!..(could not thank you enough)
It is really horrible seeing the people that call themselves animators. They always think that being able to model something in 3D makes one an animator. Yet they do not know the BASIC PRINCIPLES of animation.
Thank you again.
This is what we are trying to change with our animation courses starting (for the first time) on 4th march at the Goethe Institut. Though we are experts in 2D animation, we are NOT preaching 2D or 3D or any of the Ds. What we are preaching is that people first of all LEARN the BASICS.
It is very embarassing.
Why did we start this Shrinkfish Media Lab (smedlab) because we are tired of being looked down upon by the international community.
Why are we being looked down upon; because of these people sending out (as you said) Negative Vibes to the international Community.
Imagine a film festival in Nederlands being refused of their entitlements in 2010 because according to the City Cultural Office. African films are of CHEAP quality.
So we said, we have heard enough.
Please keep preaching this!!!
Thank you again
MODELLING IS NOT ANIMATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Setting Standards In 3d Animation In Nigeria by darksider: 12:01am On Feb 26, 2013
@smedlab: dats more like it. let's make this industry professional and do things right. i love the statement " modelling is not animation"
