“Pres. Jonathan’s regime is the most corrupt, the most inept ... in the history of Nigeria,” Says CPC’s Rotimi Fashakin
Posted: May 29, 2012 - 06:40

The National Publicity Secretary of the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, Rotimi Fashakin, has described the government of President Goodluck Jonathan as the most corrupt, most incompetent and most treacherous regime in the history of Nigeria.

He made the statement over the weekend during an exclusive interview with SaharaTV.

Fashakin was reacting to the N155 billion naira Malabu Oil scam swelling around President Jonathan. He told SaharaTV’s Rudolf Okonkwo that the degree of the corruption going on under Jonathan’s government was unparalleled in Nigeria’s history.

"Over $1 billion [involved in the Malabu oil scam]….and It is going to be swept under the carpet….this pales Abacha's loot into insignificance," Fashakin said.

The Akure-born publicity secretary joined SaharaTV via skype to discuss the continuing fallout from the warning issued by CPC’s leader Gen. Muhamadu Buhari, that an attempt to rig the 2015 election could lead to bloodshed. His appearance was however overshadowed by the crisis that broke out within the CPC when some state chairmen of the party passed a vote of no confidence on the party’s National Executive Committee. Fashakin blamed the PDP of giving crumbs to some state chairmen of CPC to orchestrate the crises. He called the leaders of the group renegades who had been expelled from the party.

"It was the conspiratorial attitude of these renegades that contributed to the misfortune of CPC during the elections," Fashakin said.

Defending Gen. Buhari’s response to the crisis within CPC and whether 2011 candidate for president had control of the party, Fashakin told SaharaTV, “General Muhammadu Buhari, having been a soldier, now retired, he understands clearly that this is a totally different dispensation. This is a dispensation in which the people must be allowed to have their say in all things. It's ...not for the leader to superimpose his own will, his own desire, his own purpose on that of the people."

Asked whether Gen. Buhari would run for the presidency in 2015, Mr. Fashakin told SaharaTV’s Rudolf Okonkwo that, though the General is always ready to serve Nigeria, it all depends on what happens, noting that three years is a long time in politics.

"You can read my lips, let me tell you clearly…Gen. Muhammadu Buhari told the nation last year that was going to be his last. I would just say that we cross our fingers and wait for what will happen at that time… I'm sure the Buhari, as a democrat, is fully ready to serve the nation, but he does not want to do another electoral process again," Fashakin said.

The University of Ife graduate who is often engrossed in a PR war with, Dr. Reuben Abati, the spokesman of President Jonathan, described Abati’s choice of words in addressing Gen. Buhari as inappropriate.

“Reuben got his job based on that piece that he wrote for the president,” Mr. Fashakin said. “Many people took the column hogwash and ran with it.”

Fashakin expressed his fear that Nigerians had been duped by the Jonathan administration. "This regime is using a great deal of deceit to pit the ethnic nationalities against themselves and is also using religion." Fashakin said. “Nigerians have been thieved and deceived.”

There is nothing Jonathan government will do to please these people.
So why bother.
Instead of them to busy themselves re-organising CPC, give the party structure and make it sellable to all and sundry.
They kept chasing shadows.
2015 is around the corner, they will fail again!

It is what opposition Parties do to ruling Governments. It would help if GEJ's Government does not give the opposition so much 'ammunition'. Believe me when I say the opposition in Nigeria is very docile for the degree of misgovernance the ruling Party has displayed.
