you need your head examined! my sincere advice.you get deceived thinking wahhabism is the same as being mainstream sunni.even being sunni is deviation from the truth of Islam.how worse when you become a wahhabi and fell prey to the wahhabis in disguise of being sunni.

i do not have any idol.the two idols of quraysh (sanamai-quraysh)-abu bakr and umar-are the idols of sunnis.we Shia even have a dua (supplication) called "dua sanamai quraysh" to dissociate ourselves from idolatry of the "two idols":

we worship not any man.we do intercession which ironically even sunnis (who have not yet fallen victim to wahhabism) follow.see your sunni brothers do what you call "worshipping the dead":

In anticipation of the 35th anniversary of Khomeini 's assumption as the Supereme Ruler of Iran(1979), am reviving this thread.

Of my faintest memories are '90s Muslim newsletters on Khomeini in my family home. Hailed as a great sage, saint, revolutionary, messiah and ruler, Khomeini was a Muslim household name in the old days.

Who was Ayatollah Ruhullah Khomeini?

Fast forward to present, i find a very different figure in Khomeini from whom he is often espoused to be. The Iranian revolution was neither purely Islamic nor masterminded by Khomeini and his cycle of clerics. Aside the theocrats and ultra conservatives, leftists including moderates, liberals, secularists, feminists, marxists and communists drove the revolution, each group having its top figure. The common goal of ousting the Shah merged all the groups into one heterogenous mix.


Although accepted as the face of the revolution, to the leftists, Khomeini was to be a spiritual leader and not a political or supereme leader which he would later turn to. Khomeini must have smelt this, but he led them along for the sake of the revolution, possibly bidding his time. To earn their full vote, he promised a lot but he would later eat his words to their dismay. Like, throughout the revolution, Khomeini repeatedly affirm his disinterest in ruling Iran even if appointed, but after the revolution, his tone was reversed.

Khomeini wasn't a Man of the People. This wasn't apparent during the revolution when all efforts were channeled against the Shah. However, it became apparent when the coast was clear, even within his cycle of clerics, Khomeini faced oppositions.

After the revolution, Khomeini turned a different; replacing his soft spoken, spiritual and theological persona with a hard-nosed, militant and political one, violating several of his words that originally earned him crucial support of the leftists.

Iranian revolution nevertheless wasn't the success it promised. Even Khomeini 's original successor Ayatollah Hussein Ali Montazeri confirmed this before he was fired;

"The denial of people's rights, injustice and disregard for the revolution's true values have delivered the most severe blows against the revolution. Before any reconstruction [takes place], there must first be a political and ideological reconstruction... This is something that the people expect of a leader."

After taking the seat, Khomeini crushed all his opponents either with threats, force or withdrawing their rights. For instance, Women contributed massively to the revolution, but Khomeini withdrawn virtually all the rights they had enjoined before the revolution. He banned newspapers, radio stations and other outlets for criticising him and his vision for Iran. Dissatisfaction and opposition to Khomeini lingered even years after the Khomeini was enthroned during which arrests, assaults and execution of leftists striving for rights and opposing Khomeini 's regime weren't uncommon. Khomeini would accuse them of apostasy, enmity to Islam, conniving with the West or sympathizing with the Shah and justify their persecution under these.

By 1998, Khomeini found the ultimate chance to flush out all his opponent for good, exploiting the after math of the Gulf War, he arrested, incarcerated and executed thousands including Women and children on baseless charge of treason.

So bloody was the whole event that Khomeini fell out permanently with his original successor who evidently had had enough of Khomeini 's 'religious tyranny'.

Yes, Khomeini was a great shiite, cleric, a prominent figure in Iranian revolution, the first Ayatollah Ruler of Iran. But Khomeini, a spiritual figure in Islam? The Muslim community need to wake up.
