Handel’s Messiah is one of the greatest sacred compositions in classical music and one never gets tired of listening to it and being enraptured in the heavenly music. The words were lifted from the Old and New Testaments by Charles Jennens (1700-73) who composed the libretto for Messiah .

Handel’s Messiah inspired me whilst I was growing up as a Roman Catholic in Obalende , Lagos. I loved playing Jesus Christ at St. Matthias Catholic Primary School and in our St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Lafiaji, Lagos. I was looking forward to going to the seminary until my father refused to give his approval. But my love for the Roman Catholic life never diminished and I composed my sacred poem Gloria Maria in the early 1980s and sent it to the foremost female musicologist in Nigeria, Joy Nwosu-Bamijoko at the University of Lagos and she said I should compose the tune for her to compose the music. I was still working on it in 1981 when I got a recording contract for my Hardway To Broadway from an American recording company on Sunset Boulevard in California. I was very excited and I gave it to my father, but he took a look at it and put it aside in front of a visitor. He never wanted me to study music or become a musician, therefore he never taught me how to play his violin. He wanted me to be a lawyer and that was final. I refused and that broke his heart untill he died on November 19, 1983. I never recorded Hardway To Broadway until 1984 and was not present at the recording in the US.
I was now shifting away from the Roman Catholic Church, because a persistent Brother Joseph from the Deeper Christian Life Bible Church in Shomolu, succeeded in leading me to the higher ground of Pentecostal Christianity. I joined the Deeper Life in 1988 after 10 years of persuasion by the brethren from Pastor William Kumuyi. So, I forgot about producing my Gloria Maria.

I never recorded any of my compositions again until 2003, when I recorded She Comes on Sundays and had the world broadcast premiere on the BBC Radio with an interview on my poetry and political activism during the draconian rule of the late dictator Gen. Sani Abacha.

I wanted to produce a musical of the Song of Solomon and found a gifted young Nigerian composer Biola and he gave me a demo tape of his original musical composition. I handed it to my prospective sponsor Dare Akpata. The production of Song of Solomon is a life work and will need more time.

I composed Your Majesty in 2004 from divine inspiration during my early morning devotion whilst I was staying with the family of the International Secretary of the Scripture Union, Rev. Emmanuel Oladipo, in Idioro, Lagos.

I have decided to produce Your Majesty before the next Easter and have the world premiere to celebrate the Easter.

The libretto of Your Majesty is already published and was translated into Spanish by the Spanish poet Toni Lozano.
