Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola (August 24, 1937 – July 7, 1998), often referred to as M. K. O. Abiola, was a popular Nigerian Yoruba businessman, publisher, politician and aristocrat of the Egba clan. He ran for the presidency in 1993, and is widely regarded as the presumed winner of the inconclusive election since no official final results were announced. He died in 1998, after being denied victory when the entire election results were annulled by the preceding military president Ibrahim Babangida because of alleged evidence that they were corrupt and unfair.
But asides from June 12, what else do we know about this man? A lot of stories and hearsay have being passed around concerning the acclaimed winner of the June 12 1993 presidential election winner. Please nobody should get me wrong, I am not trying to discredit or say bad stuffs about the Late M.K.O but I feel we really need to know who this man is. Was he like's of them Gandi, Nkrumah, Mandela, Martin Luther and other people who fought for the people selflessly or was he someone who while fighting for his pocket got caught up in the people's affair and decided to help or was he a bad guy trying to turn a new leave.
it is said to be that MKO Abiola was one of Nigeria’s richest and most corrupt ‘Cabal’ and business moguls of the past, MKO Abiola. Known for his political machinations and manipulations, and blamed for the sacking of civilian presidency of the Shagari regime and its replacement with a military government. Also the sacking of the Idiagbon-Buhari regime, one of the most uncorrupted, by his invitation of the leaders with the aid of the Saudi royals to the pilgrimage to enable his sponsored Babangida-Abacha coup, in contrast one of Nigeria’s worst regimes.
Late presidential candidate, Abiola is also highly remembered for the usurping of Nigerias wealth in the American multinational ITT (International Telephone and Telegraph) project that would have literally put a phone on every street in Nigeria and catapulted Nigeria into development.

Does anyone know that Samuel Doe of Liberia before he was killed kept over $800M with MKO Abiola through IBB? Samuel Doe was to run away from Liberia and settle down in Nigeria with the money, but IBB was not able to take the money with him as he has no provision to keep it, so IBB decided to invite MKO and kept the money with MKO through IBB. After the death of Samuel Doe, MKO decided not to release the money or maybe share it with IBB. MKO ran from presidential election in 1993..... What next between IBB and MKO?

MKO may have been all that you described in your post. He may have even sold his soul to the devil and signed a contract in blood. He may even be a 10-horned beast from under the sea.

All of these does not change the FACT that he contested for and won what has been acclaimed both locally and internationally, to be the freest election ever in Nigeria.

History will remember him kindly for that singular fact. All else pales into insignificance and will remain at best, beer parlour gossip!
