NIGERIAN NEWS

- About 37 prisoners are on the death row in prisons in Edo state. This was made known in Benin by Benin The Edo Controller of Prisons, Mr. John Ewulo, at a conference organised by a France based organisation Advocates SANs Frontiers and the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) on Wednesday.

- A community radio is to be established in Lagos State University- LASU.

- A School proprietor in Ebonyi State has been apprehended for allegedly conducting fake Junior WAEC exam. Sources revealed that even the school principal is also in police net for partnering with him. It would be recalled that Ebonyi State governor, Matins Elechi ordered the closure of all sub-standard schools in the state last year but it came to his notice that some of such schools are still in operation.

- Oyo State government plans to transform Ibadan Airport to Cargo Airport.

- On Thursday, Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State announced the indefinite suspension of the conferment of honorary award on any person by authorities of Lagos State University, LASU, saying the award had been desecrated in recent times.

- The House of Representatives has removed Rep. Farouk Lawan (PDP-Kano) as Chairman the House Ad hoc Committee on fuel subsidy regime over alleged 620,000 dollars bribe.


- A multi-million naira Waste Recycling Plant has been inaugurated in Bauchi State. The project is expected to generate about 500 jobs.

ENTERTAINMENT NEWS
- Rib cracker and comedian of the federal republic of Nigeria, Julius D’Genuis Agwu is set launch his own TV show tagged “Jokes Apart”. The comedy show will air on Television stations across the country and beyond.

- The latest American Idol winner, Philip Phillips has been hospitalized and is currently undergoing surgery over undisclosed illness.

AFRICAN NEWS
- A Ugandan celebrity, Barbara Yata of famous for her articles in WBS Showtime Magazine, is pregnant, and the father of her baby is not yet clear!

- Lawmakers in Burkina Faso have set the age limit between 35 & 75 for presidential candidates for its elections.

- Mrs. Mangwashi Phiyega has been named the first woman national police commissioner in South Africa by President Jacob Zuma.



BUSINESS NEWS
- Nokia plans to cut another 10,000 jobs globally by the end of 2013 to cut its costs .Nokia Corp. will close some research and development projects in Ulm, Germany, and Burnaby, Canada.

SPORTS NEWS
- Super Eagles of Nigeria will meet Rwanda team today at Calabar around 4.pm for 2013 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

- Tiger Woods managed to win the first test for the Olympics as he grappled with Olympic Club and the U.S Open. Woods managed to win against Bubba Watson and Phil Mickelson after he shot a 1-under-par 69 on Wednesday.
