Christains in Kano attend church services despite bomb threat.
Despite the threat of attacks on churches by Boko Haram, Christians in Kano attended church services in large numbers on Sunday.
However, fewer attendances wererecorded in churches in Abuja and Kaduna, according to Reuters.
There was a heavy security presence around and in major streets in Kano.
In most of the churches, vehicles were stopped from entering into church premises during the period of service.
Soldiers and policemen were seenat the Sabongari area, a predominantly christian and non-indigenous settlement.
A worshipper, Simon Adesete, toldour correspondent that the tight security gave most christians the courage to go out to their variousplaces of worship.
In other parts of the city most fun-seekers besieged drinking spots, while others visited friends and relatives.
Our correspondent also observed that the major roads were exceptionally busy, with private vehicles, commercial tricycles, called A Daidata Sahu and motorcycles referred to as Achabaferrying passengers from one point to the other.
But hundreds queued to pass through military checkpoints outside the largest churches in Abuja in their determination to attend service regardless of the risks.
"They will always tell you that theywould prefer to die in the house of God than dying in nightclubs ordying in the streets," Reuters quoted Franklin Okoye, President of a church society in Abuja as saying.
"We do not preach gospel of retaliation, we preach peace security is everybody's concern whether you are in your house oryou are in the market or in the church or you are in the Mosque,"said Father John Sixtus Okonkwo, priest at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Abuja.
Meanwhile, two buildings collapsed and many other submerged during a four hour rainfall in Auchi, Etsako West LocalGovernment Area of Edo on Sunday.
The News Agency of Nigeria also reports that the rain affected no fewer that 30 stores in the business district of the area and destroyed goods worth millions of naira.
