Does it mean the all shot amiss with no single human sustaining an injury either while attempting to run or while running? Only God knows where they ran to. From the description of the "attack," it was done at close range. Bullet proofing loses some effectiveness at close range.
When you couple this with the number of attackers given, not as a single gunman, but "tens," then the story loses all credibility. No bullet proofing can survive shooting by tens of assailants.

Gunmen killed Governor Adams Oshiomhole secretary

Olaitan Oyerinde, private secretary to Governor Adams Oshiomole was shot death by unknown gunmen yesterday night. Sources told our reporter this morning that Oyerinde, who was shot in the heart, was confirmed dead by medical personnel at a private hospital where he was rushed to. According to our sources, police authorities in Edo state has been officially informed about the incident, even as the governor is said to be in a very low spirit.

After trying to make it look like accident and failed, the PDP blood sucking vampires send thier thugs to act like students with sole aim of assasinating Oshomole.

Three journalists covering the Edo Government House lost their lives on Saturday afternoon when a lorry crashed into Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s convoy. The governor and his entourage were heading to Auchi from Afuze in Owan East Local Government Area of Edo to officially flag-off his return bid campaign.

The incident occurred between Ikharo and Auchi axis of the Auchi/Sabongidda-Ora road. The driver of the lorry was said to have lost control after a break failure while descending the Auchi hill along the route. The lorry narrowly avoided hitting the vehicle conveying the governor and rammed into the press crew bus and one of the escort vehicles attached to the governor

Nigerian Politicians have had the past 3 decades to become experts at Political Violence. Oshiomole is a rare case of a Politician who escaped the Assassins bullets which makes me very suspicious of this incident. A public event as a place to carry out an assassination presents a lot of problems.

1: Unplanned, Unexpected Crowd Behavior - The crowd (students) can either panic and run closing down escape possibilities or worse unwittingly becoming a shield for the target (Gov. Oshiomole)
2: True Assassins look for the least resistance areas (distance, time and speed) to the target, from all accounts it looks as if they were waiting in the vicinity,enough time for people to identify them or at least the car they came in.

There are gaps of information (Pictures of vehicles, collateral damage i.e innocent bystanders who got caught in the fire)

Of course but you should also keep in mind that this is Nigeria a country well known for incompetence on multiple levels.
Politicians have been killed in the past by methods similar to this so one shouldn't be surprised that the so-called assassins were simply incompetent. The man has had an attempt on his life in the past that got other people killed so it isn't surprising that another attempt was made.
