Nigeria Premier League clubs Sunshine Stars, ABS FC and Akwa United are the latest to crash out of the country’s cup competition. Newly promoted Nasarawa United thrashed 2012 CAF Champions League campaigners Sunshine Stars 3-0 in Lokoja, non-league Dynamite Force edged out Akwa United 2-1, while Crown FC stopped ABS 1-0. Chairman of Nasarawa United Isaac Danladi told Soccerroomtoday.com he is delighted his team upset Sunshine Stars. “It was a good game which we played to win and it worked out for us. We didn’t feel inferior. We will take the games as they come,” said Danladi. Dynamite Force continued their fairy tale run in the competition when they sent packing Akwa United after they had earlier eliminated Nigeria National League side FC Taraba in the previous round. Akwa had two players, Monday Osagie and Aguda John, sent off in the second half for off-the-ball incidents. In Keffi, NPL new entrants El Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri triumphed over Abia Warriors by a lone goal scored by Bakura via penalty in the battle of the warriors. Kwara United showed Akpabio FC the exit door with a 2-1 win over the giant killers from Uyo. Kwara United goals came from Segun Alebiosu and Barnabas Imenger. Heartland defeated UNICEM Rovers 2-1 in Abuja as NPL leaders Rangers defeated JUTH FC of Jos 2-0 in Katsina-Ala. Oghogho Oduokpe scored a brace for Rangers within the first five minutes due to defensive blunders. JUTH FC coach Audu Isa Pele said that his defence was to blame for the loss. He said, “It was a game we approached to win but the early errors in our defence that led to the goals were regrettable. Apart from the goals they scored, we played better and deserved to win but that is football.” “JUTH gave a good account of themselves, but we’re on track for a league and cup double,” Rangers assistant coach Monday Osagie revealed The other Enugu State flag bearers Samba defeated Canaan City 1-0 courtesy of a 70th minute goal by Jeremiah Favour. Warri Wolves defeated NNL side Spotlite 4-3 on penalties after scores were tied at 1-1 in regulation time. 2012 Federation Cup Results Friday Rangers 2 – 0 JUTH Samba 1 – 0 Canaan City Warri Wolves 1(4) – 1(3) Spotlite (pens) Heartland 2 – 1 UNICEM Kwara United 2 – 1 Akpabio El Kanemi 1 – 0 Abia Warriors Nasarawa United 3 – 0 Sunshine Dynamite Force 2 – 1 Akwa United Crown FC 1 – 0 ABS FC http://www.soccerroomtoday.com/ |
