This is a thread for all Nigerian prospective graduates going for post graduate studies at Robert Gordon University 2012/2013. It meant to network, offer advice and discuss all that pertains to Postgraduate studies at the Robert Gordon University and Living in Aberdeen during the Study period. Alumni of the University are welcomed and their insights will be appreciated. My hope is to create a community where we can freely share all kinds of information that will be necessary for success in a foreign Land. Thanks

A lot of courses there have 2.2 as requirement. And they take a lot of 2.2 grads especially from Nigeria. So try your luck.

@Donxavier,

Hi, I got an conditional admission offer to study for an M.SC oil and gas engineering at the Robert Gordon University. I have sent them WAEC access card so they can verify my WAEC results and send me an unconditional offer. I was skeptical about going to the UK because of the unavailability of jobs there but after going through some of your posts, it seems like you're in a better position to give me useful pointers. I was seriously considering Canada but I haven't got time to apply and again their program is 2 years. Equally I want to know the prospects of getting international jobs after completing a masters degree at the Robert Gordon University.

My pops is sponsoring and I haven't got admission in Canada yet although I've applied into Calgary and made a preliminary application to Alberta. Times running out and I really want to do this masters as soon as possible. RGU can't be that bad, or is it?

Nothing is wrong with RGU, in fact it's one of the best schools out there. The problem is the UK, the problem is with the country not the schools in it. The immigration laws have changed and are becoming very harsh with non european nationals...Unless you just want come and leave after you are thru.... If you plan to remain and get some experience go to Canada.

Thanks Donxavier. I do want to get some experience its late to be considering Canada except for summer admissions next year so i'll just work with what I have.

I am presently awaiting my unconditional offer letter from RGU. Please can you tell me of the visa application process and procedure and the best time to apply.

I also want to know about living and living expenses in Aberdeen generally. Thanks.

you are still better of waiting a year and going to canada. Anyway my own 2 cents
unless it's a do or die affair it just doesnt make sense studying in the uk now.Take it from someone who has gone thru the experience.
if you still want to go thru with it the uk student visa thread is a very useful resource and all your questions will be adequately answered there.
wish you the best

I heard the same thing, so I'm reconsidering RGU, I'm looking at Canada now, but I wanted drilling and well engineering in RGU, can't find anything similar in Canada, any suggestions?

Your course seems to be in high demand here in Aberdeen cos it's a specialised course and most of them(graduates) from the course appear to get sponsorship so I think it's worth the try. But at least know the immigration conditions are harsher now.

The advantage of canada is you get to stay around after your studies and there's a fast track to permanent residency. I know memorial university at Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada do offer oil and gas engineering but am not sure of drilling and well engineering you are probably better coming to the UK in your case.
