Rhukie: I must say am impressed wiv ur work. Pls I need info on whr I cn learn how to use 2 pins to knit. At a moment I cn only use a pin to knit anything knittableThanks a lot. I really don't know a place i̶̲̥̅̊n̶̲̥̅̊ particular but I learnt online tho. Maybe am a fast learner but I never had a physical coach. Some sites use pictorials so U̶̲̥̅̊ can easily follow www.about.com/knitting www.knittingpatterncentral.com. knitting.about.com did the magic for me ãήϑ i̶̲̥̅̊n̶̲̥̅̊ a month I already make a shawl |

So I've been trailing Onnari like a bee after honey on her www.thatssewnaija..com page. Aside from being impressed am humbled at how ur little beginning is already rising to become a giant. Well am inspired ãήϑ have started my DIY sewing lessons to join my already established knitting madness. I'll need a tutorial on how to properly put a gum stay(hope am correct) on the cape of a dress. Fank U̶̲̥̅̊ |

Get ready to laugh ãήϑ laugh as much as U̶̲̥̅̊ can,I promise I ain't gon get mad. So mumsy gave me a Butterfly Sewing Machine as part of her wedding gifts to me ãήϑ today I decided to follow a tutorial I got from www.allfreesewing.com to make a Safari(or whatever they call it) dress ãήϑ the following is ђã†̥ I came up with. Forgive me for that sewing blunder coz I never had any sewing experience except for watching mumsy make Simbi-goes-to-school sort of house clothes for me while i̶̲̥̅̊n̶̲̥̅̊ Primary school ãήϑ since Onnari said we should share our DIY's, here's mine : 3 1/4 yards of material(my next attempt will be with silk so it'll relax/sleep on ma body) Just fold the material into 2(let the fold be up). Measure 12" from the fold ãήϑ pin,do it for the two sides(this will be your armhole). Then sew all the way down from the place U̶̲̥̅̊ pinned. Fold the material again ãήϑ cut the neck of the dress. Do ur neck band abi hot stay ãήϑ shikena, U̶̲̥̅̊ just made yourself Debbie's first sewing blunder.ouch!!!! Well I used a belt on it as U̶̲̥̅̊ see i̶̲̥̅̊n̶̲̥̅̊ the pix ãήϑ that's my Knitting machine behind me. I love U̶̲̥̅̊ for reading

Here r pics of the normal 'fabric stay' I say normal cos dey r used for d basics.this is the thicker kind, there's lighter, softer one. Tuk pics of both sides as well as on the fabric. The 'shiny' side is d side with gum on it n d@s what u place against d fabric n iron. Use moderate heat though not too warm or it won't glue. They come in black, white n grey. This is the black kind on top of a pink fabric. Don't throw d scraps away, they got gum so u cn always 'patch" 'em on fabrics.

This is normally called 'gum stay' ts thicker than d first fabric stay,n feels like paper. Downside of using it is that when u wash n all, it gives little bumps n wrinkles on ur clothes.

N this is a bust pad- the sort u iron on as well(all I've sent use d same procedure.lay the side wth d gum on d fabric n iron till it sticks to d fabric) ppl mostly use ds for natives... C how thick it is? ....lol!

Just the other I picked up my knitting pins to do ђã†̥ am good at since my knitting machine refused me a faster experience coz of a carelessly bent needle which will be fixed today. Wanted to make a lil jewelry pouch from my yarn stash but I ended up with this...a glass case. Plus below below is a pix of a rectangular shawl ãήϑ purse I knitted while i̶̲̥̅̊n̶̲̥̅̊ Sokoto, decided to tie it to church yesterday ãήϑ it looked more beautiful than i̶̲̥̅̊n̶̲̥̅̊ the pix. How do I know? They told me so, lolz For those of U̶̲̥̅̊ that knit, the pattern is so simple. Just cast ur desired number of stitches ãήϑ do a stockinette stitch to the end. As for me I used 6strands of yarn(3 balls of wool coz U̶̲̥̅̊ have 2 ends i̶̲̥̅̊n̶̲̥̅̊ each wool) at a go with a set of size 10 knitting pins |

Hello all. First, onnari, I think you are doing a very good thing here...also read your DIY articles on BN..nice. Anyway, I am serving at the moment and want to go into the fashion industry once I'm done with my service year. There are so many interesting areas in fashion and , I must say, I'm a little bit confused as to what to get into. I've always been an advocate of specializing. As such, I'll love to get some knowledge wrt the industry and its various aspects/processes, as it'll help me greatly. I've heard about Martwayne but I just don't know how good it is. Are there any other good places out there? Please help me out. Thanks |

Are there real designers, seamstresses, tailors etcs in this site ? If yes, at least be able to show some of your work(please no tacky works). Going through the pages of the site, seems there are more hobbyists than professionals signed on here. |

@kobojunkie-welcome 2 d thread, sure ur on d right thread though? cos ths thread was created to 'share creative journies n xperiences' for professionals n non-professionals alike. N looking through the contacts posted from phone numbers to websites, u should visit such sites/blogs/call such numbers if u need any help. I happen to run a fashion label myself. |
