Two In Court Over Theft Of Aregbesola’s Phone by Nobody: 9:43am On Jul 09, 2012
Two accused persons, Babatunde Ogunjobi and Abdulgafar Oluwarinu, have been arraigned before an Osogbo High Court for an alleged theft of the mobile phone of Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola.
The charge sheet obtained by our correspondent, on Friday, stated that the two accused persons committed the offence on November 27,2010 when Aregbesola was being inaugurated as governor.
According to the document, both accused persons stole the governor’s phone at theOsun State Technical College, Osogbo, on the inauguration day.
Prosecution counsel, Biodun Badiora, represented the state along with the legal counsel of the State SecurityService, Mr Michael Ubi.
Other members of the prosecution team were Messrs Islamiya Adegun and Olufemi Ibikun.
Defence counsel, Mr. Akin Ladipo, appeared on behalf of the accused.
Badiora told the court that the prosecution would present three witnesses during the course of the trial.
Ladipo moved an application for the bail of both accused persons, saying they remained innocent until the contrary was proved in court.
In his ruling, Justice Oyejide Falola granted bail to both accused in the sum of N500, 000 and two sureties, who must produce two passport photographs. He also said one of the two sureties for each accused must be a blood relation.
The judge adjourned the case to July 13, 2012.
It would be recalled that the phone was used to swindle some prominent members of the society, which included a top traditional ruler in Ijesa area of Osun.
Faking the voice of the governor, the swindlers allegedly called other prominent names in the phone and requested them to pay money into a certain account.
The faked voice of the governor claimed that he (Aregbesola) was stranded abroad after losing his travelling documents and money to thieves.
The voice claimed that the governor needed the money to travel back to Nigeria.
