Friends and associates have continued to besiege the Dolphin Estate, Lagos Island residence of the missing TV presenter, Alhaji Rasak Gawat, praying for his safe return.

A News Agency of Nigeria correspondent, who visited the residence, reports that Muslim clerics held daily prayer sessions for the missing broadcaster.

Fatimo, wife of the presenter, told NAN that she was hopeful of the broadcaster’s safe return.

“We have commenced prayers along with fasting, and I am very hopeful of his safe return.

“Though nobody has contacted the family, we have faith he is going to return to our warm embrace,” she said.

She described her husband as an easy going and religious person who could hardly involve himself in any dubious or suspicious deal.

According to Fatimo, her husband left home on Tuesday, July 10, and their last conversation was on the telephone and he said he was attending a meeting at Ikeja.

When Gawat did not return home on Tuesday, the wife reported to the police on Wednesday morning and the former anchorman of an Islamic TV programme on NTA Channel 10, Lagos, was declared missing by the Lagos State Police Command same day.

A senior police officer at the Adeniji Adele Central Police Station, who preferred anonymity, told NAN that the matter was being treated as a case of a missing person and not kidnap or abduction, since nobody has contacted the family or the police.

Gawat’s vehicle, a Toyota SUV with Reg. No RE 77 AAA, was found at the tail end of Eko Bridge, Apongbon, by men of the Lagos State Transport Management Agency on Thursday, two days after he left home, and a day after his wife reported that his whereabouts was unknown.

The vehicle, which has since been released to the police for further investigation, was towed to Olowu zonal office of the command on Lagos Island.
