I drive a 525i '91 model with a M40 engine. Very basic (no sportiness to it) but a master of the road. Like clockwork, my BMW trained only mechanic calls me every three months to service the vehicle - change the oil (due to the age of the vehicle), the fuel filter and tune up the car. I change my ball joints every 6-9 months to ensure no rumbling sound is heard as I cruise from point A to B with no stress. One good thing about the beema is that no matter the age, if well taken care of - you'll always enjoy it. I initially patronised a jack of all cars mechanic but found the present one I use in 2010 through another friend who uses the same spec and I've never regretted it. Ideally the BMW is a vehicle for finicky persons who have the discipline of a solid maintenance culture (I'm sure its the same for many other vehicles), but with the BMW, when you take care of it - it takes care of you! For Beema owners looking to get genuine parts, leave me a message so I can follow up with you!

i am intending to buy the 2008 BMW X3. I have been doing so many findings but so far i am not convinced about the performance of the car considering fuel consumption, maintenance and the likes though i heard it drives smoothly and fully balanced. I would love to be enlightened from experienced people please. Thanks

Fuel consumption compared to what? Compared to other SUVs in its class, it should rate very well. Six speed tranny with modern engine to limit fuel consumption.

The only problem that I see with driving cars like this in Nigeria is due to the lack of quality fuel. In Nigeria, you seem to only have one grade of fuel and it's probably the lowest one, 87 octane rating.

The engines in modern BMWs require a minimum of 91 octane rating (RON) and I don’t believe you can find it in Nigeria. This means that the car will run inefficiently and burn more fuel because the ECU (computer) will try to compensate for bad fuel by retarding timing.

Essentially, the higher the octane rating, the less likely the fuel will detonate under pressure. If the fuel detonates too early (knock), the ECU will minimize the compression of the engine to accommodate the bad/inadequate fuel.

Of course you can add octane boosters to the fuel to bring up the octane rating. Hopefully, I didn’t confuse you.

2008 is a good year to buy because the SUV was updated (LCI) in 2007.

Sisi_Kill: Why are you guys being Carcist? angry angry

Why can't I discuss my 1988 Camaro here?

What does your BMW have that my car doesn't? It has engine, it has key that opens the door, it has tires and a boot too and when the panel beater finishes with it (hopefully by the end of the week) it will have a sunroof.

And the rewire guy told me by the time he is done, nobody will be able to see the wire connecting the speakers to the CD player in the boot.

We are also working on the keyless starting feature. . .As soon as the wires stop sparking and shocking people every time they touch. . .I will be good to go.
Guy sorry its obvious dat ur camelion or wat ever u call it need wheelbarrow tire, nd pls wat about the steering hope u will get d panel beater to manufacture
It too sorry b40 I forget carpenter don nack u chair? Am tinkin an emulsion paint will doo too.
As for the car backup camera, my brother's friend's girlfriend works for Cannon and she is going to get me a deal on a Cannon T50. As soon as we can figure out a way to mount on top of the car and have it connected to the small TV we already installed in the dashboard. . .y'all can't say I don't have that.

So please tell me why I can't join the your group?? undecided

Great thread.

I've owned 3 BMW's, and currently run a late model.

My first was a 1976 BMW 1602, bought as an unfinished project. I completed it, and ran her for eighteen months before selling her to a collector who came over from Sorrento, Italy to pick her up.

Second was a 1990 BMW E30 325i M-Tech II Sport in Schwartz Metallic. Brilliant car, handled pretty good, a car almost built for the track. Kept her for two years before selling.

Third was a 1990 BMW E30 M3 Cabrio in Macau Blue Metallic, bought on a whim during a trip to Frankfurt. Arguably one of the best handling M3's BMW built. The ride was very firm, and well suited to smooth German Autobahns, but equally at home driving in the city. Kept her for two years too before selling.

I'm an Audi man at heart, and currently run an Audi S8. To supplement the Audi, I purchased a 2008 BMW E87 118d M-Sport in Schwartz Metallic. This has the 2,0 TDS engine. Very frugal, and whilst nowhere near as comfortable, luxurious or quick as my Audi S8, is in a different league when it comes to consumption. So far, she's been brilliant, and I have no plans to sell her just yet. But at the same time, she won't be replacing the Audi S8 as my daily driver.

however am on the other end with a c63 amg coupe p31, and i dare say handling is excellent for me with this, havin compared with a bmw m3.

but as always bmw is one superior brand in handling.

have you taken it to a technician for proper check? I have not experienced this, or heard of this before. Pls get a reputable specialist to help on this...have you checked whether the ac fan works when the ac is on?

an obvious sign of fuel pump failure is a whine from where the pump is situated. Mine is under the rear seat...look for where urs is an listen for that whiining noise...also check whether ur fuel filter is okay

Re: BMW Owners' Forum by yungboss(m): 6:51pm On Dec 25, 2012
i currently have a few issues with my e36, just fell short of stock standard:

My engine, having run hot, when the ignition is turned off, it does hesitate to shut down.
i have black fumes (lightly) out of the exhaust pipe (running rich) and the idling has dropped a little (say, from its supposed 750 to a little above 500, estimate 600).
The car also hunts sometimes (and other times goes off from critically hunting).

THINGS I HAVE DONE:
1. i have tested the MAF, replaced it with other MAFs but same problem.
2. Changed the ECU, no improvement
3. Cleaned injectors, same story.
4. Oil changed etc but no general improvement...

i don't know whether its a clogged PCV...please help with suggestions and solutions.
