If u are using it on ur phone as you implied, it think is cost effective for you cos you can always switch from using ur phone as a modem to browsing with it via mobile browser like Opera mini or UCWeb which will not drain the data and i guess u stay in Lag where majority of ppl use airtel as their network for voice calls so the "on-net" call thing is to your advantage For me, i only use my airtel sim for my modem and not calls. It's all good anyway

The networks in the UK and the rest of Europe make use of what is called Fibre Optics cables which is attached to ordinary phone lines and the speed is ultra fast and very cheap to maintain. NITEL is the only service provider which can provide such service in Nigeria. Revive NITEL and the cost of Data Services would reduce abruptly. But unfortunately, these service providers MTN, Glo, Etisalat the rest of them won't allow this cos it would be bad for their business.
