Decryptor: It still doesnt make sense to me. If i want to recharge my modem and i go to an ATM, what abt other bank charges and secondly, for the "on-net" calls, the ppl usin airtel on my phonebook are not up to 5 in numbr. all for a miserble 180mb?
well if u say so but i use my phone as my modem, meaning am always online and nothing like bank charges if u reacharg using atm, quickteller, vtu, or thru moblie banking ok.
If u using modem, then u waisting ur free on net calls, sms but if u ok with what i have and refuse to explore then gud luk.

@brightmon, i think i get your drift. If u are using it on ur phone as you implied, it think is cost effective for you cos you can always switch from using ur phone as a modem to browsing with it via mobile browser like Opera mini or UCWeb which will not drain the data and i guess u stay in Lag where majority of ppl use airtel as their network for voice calls so the "on-net" call thing is to your advantage wink For me, i only use my airtel sim for my modem and not calls. It's all good anyway

until whn we we pay 1k/s for national/off net calls,0.5k/s for on-net calls,50k/SMS,N200/1GB Data/24/7/mth d situation still remains we r bn ripped off by all these telcom companies who r just good in dishing out poor services while officials of NCC sit aloof wt dia pot-belliesg,throws dia hands in d air in utter hopelessness of wat 2 do 2 defend d rights of customers. y? itz simple,as long our regulators(NCAA,NCC,etc) stop enjoying freebies 4rm companies they regulate d rot/shortcomings in those sectors will continue. kudos to nafdac.

Mr Everest: Why are we celebrating mediocrity in dis country? You are the one who needs to sit up! Do you knw d profit after tax of these shylock telcos? They all see Nigeria as their cash cow, and keep milking us dry under d excuse of 'hostile operating environment' whateva extra cost they bear due to power cuts is offset by their net turn over. What hap'nd 2 main1, Sat3 etc dat was supposed 2 crash bandwidth charges? BTW the heading of this afvert is misleading.

Abeg tell am o! As if naija be only country with bad electricity . We have sat3, main1, glo1, wasc, nigcomsat. Yet we still dey pay for bandwidth thru our nose .and one foool dey complain about electricity, as if when d electricity come .telecoms go dey use d power free without paying high amount for d power they consume. So people are still paying for internet services, this is very strange to me because where I am living in THE GAMBIA internet services by telecom companies is free of charge if you are using handset and small charges if you are using their moderm for laptop, their is no fixed charges, just buy their moderm 1000dalasis about 5500naira and continue to recharge i.e Africell,Qcell,Gamtel etc.Nigerians are really suffering!!! I will come home in 2015 to help vote PDP out of power

And you think 1 less vote from you would stop them or remove them from power?
Let's try to talk or cohearse the present rulling party to make changes to the current policies that are extorting from the masses . That's the best way, in that if all things go as planned, then almost everybody would be happy

Re: Etisalat Offers 6 Month Free Internet Subscription by OlaAjia(m): 6:18pm On Jul 25, 2012
Decryptor: @OlaiJA, you are right. The networks in the UK and the rest of Europe make use of what is called Fibre Optics cables which is attached to ordinary phone lines and the speed is ultra fast and very cheap to maintain. NITEL is the only service provider which can provide such service in Nigeria. Revive NITEL and the cost of Data Services would reduce abruptly. But unfortunately, these service providers MTN, Glo, Etisalat the rest of them won't allow this cos it would be bad for their business.

Decryptor, actually, NITEL is NOT the only company that can provide Optical fibre connectivity. I am sorry if this is what you understood from my earlier post. The advantage of having NITEL though would have been that all the Private Telecoms Operators (PTOs) would not have to build their own infrastructure. Hence, the playing ground would be level for everybody, not to talk of the cheap rate at which they'd be able to rent bandwidth from NITEL because NITEL would have nothing to lose either ways (A win-win for everyone).
As a matter of fact, there is extensive Optical fibre coverage, but for the reasons I stated earlier, ie, fibre cuts, expensive rents, vandalism and sabotages, lack of regulation, poor power supply; the services remain expansive till date.

Furthermore, contrary to what you said, the telecoms operators would actually be quite happy to have NITEL come back on board. For one, it would mean a significant reduction in their OPEXes as the national coverage would hopefully be managed by NITEL (alone). Again, the bigger networks will not enjoy undue advantages since they will all be reliant on just one national fibre infrastructure (NITEL). In addition, NITEL being around will bring about a marked increase in their profit margins. In essence, they have nothing to lose and everything gain by having NITEL around. The failure of NITEL is solely that of our Government and NITEL's management, and has nothing to do with the PTOs.
