PDP lawmaker representing Ahoada east constituency one, hon Martyns Mannah, calls for resignation of Rivers Assembly Speaker, Ibani.[sub][/sub]

The member representing Ahaoda East Constiuency one, Martins Mannah has asked for the resignation of the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Ikunyi Owaji Ibani.

DAILY POST reports that Mannah lambasted the Speaker during a debate on the chaos that occurred at the High Court premises.

The Ahaoda East lawmaker, who was ruled out of order, accused the Speaker of bad leadership and maladministration.

After the day’s sitting, Martins Mannah further held a media briefing where he articulated his grievance against the Speaker.

The Lawmaker who was elected on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party said the Assembly only sits when the Governor permits.

“What are we always talking about self? We are here condemning the APC while we are yet to resolve our own problems.

“This 8th Assembly is the worst since the existence of Rivers state. This edifice we are in now was built by the former Governor of this State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi but we can’t even maintain it. See ‘spirogyra’ on the walls.

“Since 2015 we have not attended any seminar despite our resources. Even states that sell ordinary onions have sponsored seminars for their lawmakers’ oversees.

“Those of us who are here don’t know how to move motions and we call ourselves Lawmakers. And see, our time is almost over.

“I am telling you here that we don’t have any leadership in this House of Assembly. We don’t have a good Speaker.

“There are so many things going wrong and on that, I want to ask that the Speaker should tender his resignation if he knows he cannot do the right things,” he said...

EKPEYE HALTS CASSIDY

The Ekpeye Council of Traditional Rulers and Chiefs has barred Hon. Cassidy Okpara Ikegbidi from participating in all traditional and political activities in Ekpeye land henceforth.
This followed an alleged desecration of the "very customs and traditions" of the Ekpeye people by Ikegbidi as it concerns the processes to been crowned as a King.
The former chairman of Ahoada East Council was alleged to have flouted the customs and traditions of the people by secretly installing himself as Eze Igbu Akoh,a second class traditional stool.
The decision to ostracize Ikegbidi was taken at a Council meeting chaired by Eze Dr. Felix Enene Otuwarikpo, Eze Igbu Upata, held at Ekpeye House in Ahoada town.
Addressing other Ezes,community heads,titled chiefs,youth and women leaders on behalf Eze Ekpeye Logbo,Eze Robinson O. Robinson, Eze Otuwarikpo said the "secret coronation" purported to have been performed by Cassidy smacks of "recklessness and a total debasement of sacred values of the Ekpeye people".
Insisting that the period of "rascality is gone in Ekpeye land", Eze Otuwarikpo further announced the suspension of community heads,chiefs and titled chiefs associated with the "illegal installation of Cassidy as Eze Igbu Akoh II. What happened at Ula Ehuda,the ancestral home of the Akoh people was sacrilege, a taboo that has no trace to the enviable customs and traditions of the people.
"We are united in this decision to ban Cassidy Okpara Ikegbidi from all traditional and political activities in Ekpeye land. He shall not attend nor convoke any form of meeting or attend any traditional and political event. He is henceforth stripped of all traditional titles; he is no longer a chief in Ekpeye Kingdom and should not be addressed as such".
Stressing that the self coronation by Cassidy was capable of breaching the peace, Eze Otuwarikpo who is Chairman of the Ahoada Council of Traditional Rulers and Chiefs noted the current peace was "hard won. Nobody should act in ways to provoke restiveness".
He further called on youths not to allow themselves be engaged in violent acts that could further retard their growth, advising however that they should galvanize into a force for positive change.
Cassidy was allegedly accused of acting in breach of Ekpeye laws guiding processes for coronation of an Eze when at night got himself installed as Eze Igbu Akoh,a sub clan in Ekpeye Kingdom. The decision to ostracize him was reached after he allegedly failed to attend several invitations made for him to defend himself on alleged traditional offences.
The highlight of the meeting includes that the Igbu Akoh people should without delay form an Election Committee to facilitate the selection process to the vacant stool. The stool became vacant following the death of the occupant, late Eze Okpara Ololube.

Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi on Saturday escaped assassination as the Security operatives attached to the Governor of Rivers State launched an attack on the convoy of Amaechi.


The Minister who was on his way back from Omagwa Int'l airport was attacked at Nwanja Junction around Trans-Amadi Road in Port Harcourt the State Capital.

The masked security operatives in the Governor's convoy were reported to have blocked the Minister From accessing the road because the Governor was on a project inspection, It took the quick intervention of men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) on patrol to quell the situation.




Mr Harold Augustus, Senior Special Assistant on Protocol to the Governor of Rivers State was alleged to have supervised the attack, which included damage to devices held by observers and injury to a security detail attached to the Minister of Transportation.


However the Minister was not harmed as he remained in his car, despite the attack.

The LEADER OF APC AHOADA EAST HON. BARR. ERIC APIA LAUDS PRESIDENT BUHARI ON BUDGETARY ALLOCATION TO THE NIGER DELTA.

Hon Barr. Eric Apia who was reacting to the 2018 budget estimates presented by President Buhari to the joint session of the National Assembly in Abuja on Tuesday, as it affects the Niger Delta Region, expressed happiness over budgetary allocations of N17.32 Billion for the completion of the East/West Road in 2018 which has been a burden to the people of Niger Delta, as well as the Federal Government Amnesty programme which would gulp N65 Billion in the coming fiscal year. He also commends the president on including the extension of Rail line to Warri in Delta State and the inclusion of Yenegoa in the Lagos-Calabar rail line project. The increase in the budgetary capital allocation to the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs to the tune of N53.89Billion to meet the aspirations of the Niger Delta in terms of development.

Furthermore, the Legal luminary applauded Mr President for creating a special fund of N300 billion earmarked for critical roads infrastructure of which the Niger Delta is expected to take a large chunk therefrom.
Hear him; "it's unprecedented in the history of the Niger Delta and indeed Nigeria at large that a president will commit so much funds into the hitherto marginalised area, it is interesting to note that out of the over N150 billion earmarked for the Federal government social investment programs, over N20 billion will be sunk in the Niger Delta via Npower, Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT), Government Enterprise Empowerment Program (GEEP) and other welfare programs and this goes to show that the president has the poor and less-privileged of the area at heart".

The APC leader in Ahoada East LGA also showered encomiums on the President Mohamadu Buhari led administration for its commitment to pursue with vigour the full implementation the Ogoni clean-up exercise and the provision of its counterpart funding for Bonny-Bodo road project which according to the President, when completed would open up the economic potentials of the Niger Delta Region beyond the shores of Nigeria. This is a clear indication of a President that bears the burden of the people of Niger Delta.

Hon Barr Eric Apia noted with trust that all the projects that are earmarked for the Niger Delta Region as captured in the proposed 2018 budget estimates would go a long way in fast-tracking the infrastructural deficit that had ravaged the region in the past and maintain peace and security in the Niger Delta for economic and social activities to thrive.

The Leader APC Ahoada East called on all aggrieved persons or communities in the region to sheathe their sword and support the President who he said has demonstrated high level of sincerity towards the development of the Niger Delta Region.

He urged all and sundry to give peace a chance and embrace the good initiatives of President Buhari in developing the region.

SOME CLARIFICATIONS ON RIVERS APC:

I listened to a man this morning on Today FM making all manner of insinuations including that the Hon.Minister for Transportation,Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi is against the gubernatorial ambition of Sen.Magnus Abe.

Let's put the record straight;

i) CHIBUIKE ROTIMI AMAECHI is not against the ambition of anybody including that of Sen.Magnus Abe. The situation is that APC is the major opposition party in Rivers that faced so much challenges in the recent past. Recall that the elections in Rivers State which began in 2015 lingered till Dec,2016 with series of rounds of elections, which in turn,impacted heavily on party cohesion, resources and management.

At the end of the elections, Amaechi, as leader of the party and the party leadership in the state called a stakeholders meeting and requested a collective effort to re-build and re-strenghten the party ahead of 2019. He appealed to every member with ambition to give the party just 6 months within which all the issues of sabotage and mistrusts arising from the different interests would be resolved and the field thrown open to everybody to canvas supports.
To this, most party members agreed, only very few refused, they have since begun campaigns while every other person is respecting the party's directives.

ii) SELECTION OF CANDIDATES FOR 2019 ELECTIONS:

On this, both Amaechi himself and the leadership of the party have said that nobody would fly the party's flag for any of the elective positions, be it Assembly, House of Reps, Senate Guber or even the Presidency without emerging from popular, free and fair party primaries. This fact has been reiterated again and again by the party both at the State and the National. So the issue of imposition of candidates does not exist anywhere.
What the party has and is saying is that everybody who has an ambition must go through primaries but that the primaries would hold when both INEC,the statutory body in charge of elections and the Party's National leadership blow the whistle in order not to run foul of the Electoral laws.

These same people crying blue murder are those who wanted both Amaechi and the party leadership to endorse them even before primaries are held. It was when they refused that these attempts at insulting, denigrating, maligning and blackmailing Amaechi,Dakuku,Ikanya,Emeka Beke and other party leaders began.
In Rivers APC, we have a situation where some people feel that they are above the party,they are too big to respect the party's directives, they have become Alpha&Omega that can't be called to order. But we all know that even in heaven, there is order,nobody or group of persons can be above the laws of their organization or country.

Finally, when you hear that Amaechi wants to impose candidates, just know it's a lie mischievously been used to gain your sympathy, do not fall for it.
At the appropriate time, INEC and the party will release guidelines, when that is done, I assure you that you would see hundreds of aspirants that have only held back their ambitions in obedience to the party leadership and not out of cowardice.
