Travel / Re: Why There Is No Point Going To The Uk Again by Ilekokonit: 2:58am On May 17
sukkot:
The caliber of naijas in the uk back then was quality guys and girls. now na every tom dick and harry

True talk.

Naija armed robbers full London and some of the street guys for Woolwich area dey go rob people for ATM and even them dey go rob themselves for house after one of them makes some money from some illegal stuff.

I once ventured to a music performance by one of Naija's Fuji musicians at Woolwich, Sout East London to celebrate the end of the Muslim fasting period and in the hall where the event occurred, I bet my bottom dollar that there must have been at least 10 or more armed robbers from Naija now settled in the UK and I prayed a silent prayer that "God, please do not let my children be unlucky as to marry these chaps children".

Circa 2005, I saw some guys on old Kent Road SE London and they were no different from Naija vulcanizers and they could not have passed a face to face UK Visa interview but the Brits shot themselves in the foot during the short period they did their non Appearance Visa regime that required no face to face Visa interview and anyone could get a Visa by forging the right documents and sending them to the Visa decision maker via the drop box.

London has really changed like you mentioned when compared to the pre-internet period that started in London in 1999.

The '80s and early '90s were a ball in London and you are correct that most Nigerians in London in the Pre Internet days were majorly those born in London but raised in Naija.

Now 2024 London is worse than living in some parts of Nigeria if you take away the 24/7 electricity and the fact that you can get an ambulance and police to your door within minutes although in London, there is a stabbing almost everyday and an example is that 14 year old Naija boy that was decapitated by a deranged chap in London a few weeks ago.

Give me enough money today and I will relocate back to Nigeria yesterday.

The current racist rhethoric in the UK against immigrants is out of this world by the inherently racist Oyibos hiding behind and egging on the sly politically ultra ambitious Rishi Sunak and the monstrous Right Wing but equally brown skinned former home secretary and former UK Attorney General Suella Braverman to spout clearly racist rhethoric on a daily basis like putting Asylum Seekers on the Bibby Stockholm barge (a floating prison that turned out to have a poisonous water supply) or the new law that will deport asylum seekers to Rwanda to have their application dealt with in Rwanda !!!!!

These racist policies signed into law under the watch of a brow skinned Prime Minister and crafted by 3 Home Secretaries (2 former ones were brown skinned and the current one is black skinned) will haunt all ethnic minorities (black, brown and yellow skinned) for decades to come and even if a new Labour Govt repeals the racist Rwanda law, the damage is already done as the majority white population who erstwhile kept their racist rhetoric under wraps have now been emboldened to the extent that they now have outrightly racist TV stations fronted by serving MPs like Jacob Rees Mogg and a few weeks ago a white guy started shouting racist rhethoric at anyone of colour in a crowded train carriage including at a black lady who worked in media who recorded his racist tirade and posted the video on social media.

Any black person who is not street wise should try and avoid going out alone at night especially in areas where there are not that many black people 'cos in the current climate in the UK where it is fair game to castigate and hate people of colour who are asylum seekers, ignorant oyinbo people will relish the change to attack, maim and kill any person of colour they can corner under the cover of darkness walking alone especially if the oyinbos know that CCTV does not cover that area.

Our women in the UK should be careful about going out alone after dark and those of them who do care work and have to leave their homes to go to work around 3am should be VERY careful and constantly look around them and immediately cross the road to the other side if they sense or see an Oyinbo man walking behind them in the very early hours of the day or at night when there are few people around.

Better still, our women should get better jobs they can work at between 9am to 5pm without having to wash another human beings poo. Nurses are an exemption because that is a more dignified job that being a carer.

Apart from reading and digesting all the material in the syllabus for your 4 subjects, the key to passing Jamb is to practice and read the past questions and answers for as many Jamb past questions that you can get your hands on.

Many years ago, after I had tried Jamb 2 earlier times and scored 226 and then 250 at a time when UI medicine had a cut off mark of 280, my Dad for my 3rd and final sitting bought me the questions and answers (hard copy) to ALL past Jamb questions since inception for Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English and once I had read all the material for my subjects I resorted to going through the Jamb past Q and A's and I was able to pass with 284 which beat UI's 280 cut off for Medicine.

So when I heard that in today's Nigeria you can enter Uni with a score of below 200, I get confused at how standards have been so lowered ?
Celebrities / Re: Police Arrests Portable For Failing To Pay Debts on G-Wagon car by Ilekokonit: 11:45pm On May 14
Is it even legal for these Nigerian police to arrest people for debts or for a 2 fighting case of abusing one another on social media

Owing a debt is supposed to be covered by taking the debtor to court and not bribing the police to arrest someone without a court order or a conviction

Correction, they showed him an arrest warrant in this case but Is this why the Nigerian police was set up ? To take sides in settling debts or online fights after being bribed by one party or to arrest husband that is quarreling with his wife

I remember once seeing a wife on Okada with Okada rider, police and arrested husband after the wife got him arrested for a marital dispute. All 4 of them on one Okada - Rider, wife, police and arrested husband. I was thinking to myself that if i was the arrested husband, na inside gutter all 4 of us go end up because I go wait patiently until we are beside one gutter full of green dirty water and I go just push everybody inside the gutter.

Na wa for Nigerian police o.

Crime / Woman Stabbed Best Friend 18 Times Because She Called Her Horrible For Stealing by Ilekokonit: 11:35pm On May 14
Woman stabbed best friend 18 times because she called her horrible for stealing and using her Bank card

A hero neighbour is set to receive a bravery award after seizing a knife from a woman who was carrying out a "frenzied" stabbing attack against her friend.

Paul Martin, now 39, from Old Swan, was working from home on April 14 2021 when he heard someone outside shouting for help.

He went outside and found his neighbour, Wesley Pemberton, covered in blood. After hearing that Mr Pemberton's girlfriend Kelsey Anne Gielinck was being attacked by her friend Lauren Walsh in their home, Mr Martin rushed inside to intervene.

Miss Gielinck, then aged 21, was stabbed 18 times in the attack, suffering wounds to her nose, face, chest, body and stomach, plus severed tendons in her right hand. According to the Crown Prosecution Service, Walsh had stolen Miss Gielinck's bank card and spent money on it on the morning of the attack.

Mr Martin is to be awarded The King’s Commendation for Bravery for seizing the knife away from Walsh, before staying with Ms Gielinck until an ambulance arrived.

Mr Martin told PA: “There was blood all over the place, I shouted ‘girls, what are you doing?’… she (Walsh) just froze and I walked over and actually took the knife from her, I was under the impression that she didn’t know what was going on.

“It was like a red mist had come over her, she looked at me with a blank expression on her face, I just took the knife from her and got Kelsey out of the house.”

A 2021 trial at Liverpool Crown Court heard that former nursery nurse Walsh and Ms Gielinck had spent three hours talking alone in the house before the incident.

Ms Gielinck, who had contacted the police about the stolen card, did not suspect Walsh nor did the attacker admit that she was the thief.

At just after 3pm, Mr Pemberton entered the home and was on the phone when without warning Walsh slashed his girlfriend in the nose and the attack began.

Mr Pemberton, then 22, was stabbed in the chest, back and hand as he tried to escape the house to get help.

In December 2021, Walsh, aged 22, was found guilty at Liverpool Crown Court of two counts of attempted murder. Appearing for sentencing on January 21, 2022, Walsh was handed a life sentence due to her "significant risk" to the public.

The court heard that the victims intended to sell their home because they "felt horrific living in that house", which acted as a constant reminder of the crime. Miss Gielinck's victim impact statement said: "Despite our best efforts to clean, we still find droplets of blood which is horrid."

Speaking about his gallantry award, Mr Martin added: “I’m pleasantly surprised, it was my wife who put me forward so I had no idea about it. It’s nice to hear that you get appreciated.

“It’s been three years now but I still keep in touch with the two people who got attacked, and really I just want to put it all behind me now.

“It’s something that happened and I’m just glad that they survived.”

In actual fact, you are very correct. You must have been a keen observer of Tinubu's money grabbing antics in Lagos state that he used to build up his election rigging war chest in addition to his massive looting of the Lagos State Treasury from 1999 till date (and counting).

In 2007, Tinubu or whichever of his stooges was Governor at the time just woke up and reasoned that the daily looting he is doing to the Lagos State Treasury was not enough for his future election rigging war chest and he decided to impose an income tax regime on Lagos artisans without any semblance of tax assessment and just publish a list of rates in banks and public places with the threat that any one market trader and artisan who does not pay this new arbitrarily concocted regular tax figures to Lagos state Tinubu will be barred from doing any form of business with Lagos state offices and parastatals.

Tinubu the rogue is implementing his same corrupt money grabbing scheme on 200 million Nigerians in all the 36 states and the FCT.

Its going to get rockier and messier, the longer Tinubu solidifies his greasy grip on the neck of the Nigerian Treasury.

Just keep watching. Tinubu is already richer than Nigeria and its not yet 12 months that the blood sucker has occupied Aso rock.

Most of these cable subs na waste of money. Na so i subscribe to Netflix for the past 3 years or so at 7£ per month and I only think of watching it at Christmas when on annual leave as I prefer searching for what i feel like watching on Youtube.

2 months ago I got tired of paying £7 per month for what I don't watch and I cancelled the Netflix Sub and also told my bank to stop the Continuous Payment authority to them as these companies are so crafty that they will not use Direct Debit which you can cancel easily but they prefer to take your Card details and set up a CPA (Continuous Payment authority) directly on the card so that a) they can increase your Subs if they think you are using Netflix in more than one room or on more than one device and b) you can not easily cancel a CPA at your bank unless you phone them and insist on them blocking it for the next 13 months (to take into account yearly subscriptions).

Don't mind the Treasury Looters. Some of us gave up on Tinubu's Govt before he even won the APC primaries because we knew that Tinubu's penchant for Looting Treasuries is legendary as he has been doing to the Lagos State treasury from 1999 till date.

Tinubu's only goal is to loot enough money so that no other politician (including Atiku who is also a mega thief) will be able to match Tinubu's ability to bribe his way into Aso Rock and his devilish plan worked only because we worship money in Nigeria.

Patronising prostitutes is expensive in the abroad. Thirty minutes with an escort costs an equivalent of $100 where I'm and I was told that was even pre-COVID rates. Na person wey get proof of funds to repay go dey indulge in such? You want to use your earnings from care jobs to patronise sex workers?

A few years ago, I met a Romanian Ashewo at a Naija beer parlour in London. Intrigued by her stamina and ability to buy and drink 2 bottles of Henessy from her own pocket (at £80 a bottle), we got talking and she opened up that she is a well earning escort and that she sends £5,000 to her parents in Romania every month. (I later advised her to save some money for a period when she is not healthy enough to ply her trade).

She said a Jamaican man (one of her regular customers) patronizes her for 2 one hour slots EVERY week paying her £150 per hour and the man fell in love with her and started buying her flowers and gifts on every visit and since there were no repercussions on both sides when the CD mistakenly burst, they waved bye bye to CD to the point that the Ashewo got pregnant and Baba told her to keep the baby but she went behind his back and flew to Romania to terminate the pregnancy and came back to London to continue plying her trade.

Imagine what could have pushed the man to settle for an Ashi to fall in love with ??

Steal a crate of egg = 1 month in jail.

Why was her life supporting machine turned off?
The husband couldn't meet up with the bills?

Health is free in the UK if you get papers and 'cos she get work permit it is still free although she would have paid a health surcharge of £1,035 per year in advance which in the circumstance is a fraction of the cost of looking after her in intensive care unit. Health care in the UK used to be completely free from cradle to grave for EVERYONE including those without papers or work permit until a few years ago when things changed and the health surcharge was introduced to prevent health tourism and to also raise money for the struggling UK Govt finances.

I saw the following article on the internet regarding why a life support machine may be turned off :-

Choosing to remove life support usually means that the person will die within hours or days.

Actually doctors don't choose to end life support. Family members do. Doctors can only recommend removal of life support if the chances of recovery is next to nothing.

Keeping people on life support is not as simple and painless as people think it is. It sometimes makes for a painful, slow and violent death.
Something we shouldn't wish for our worst enemies.
Families in their earnestness to give their loved one everything in fact deprive them of a peaceful death.

If a person is brain dead, the patient is officially dead. Most Governments recognizes brain death as a definition of death. At this point, the life support or ventilator only keeps the body running without any hope of recovery.

Very good comment. When I turn off my phones every week day at 7pm and refuse to take it into my bedroom and only switch it on the next day people don't understand what I am purposefully doing.

Knowing that sleep is the best medicine, I don't joke with my 8 hours minimum nightly sleep with more at the weekends.

A lot of people doing care work in the UK choose to do nights and some work round the clock and the next day WatsApp will not let them sleep and eventually it takes its toll on their physical health whilst the constant night work damages their mental health.

RIP to the Lawyer who died just months into her relocating to the UK. Her system is probably not used to the extreme stress in the UK.

UK is not for the faint hearted.

In my days as a student Accountant in London, I was a mini cab driver when I had just brought my then 7 month old son and my Ex from Naija to London and to make extra money, I borrowed my brothers extra car and went on a long mini cab shift lasting 60 hours (2 and a half days) without sleep (in those days you had to put in the hours to make anything from mini cabbing) and on the way home after the 60 hour shift I started feeling sleepy and I wound down my windows so that the winter cold will keep me awake as I was only 20 minutes or so from home.

What saved my life was that the Met police stopped me just as I was approaching the entrance to Rotherhite tunnel and asked me to put on my seat belt which I did.
As I exited the East London end of the tunnel and turned right towards Stratford, I dozed off for a split second and crashed the "borrowed" car into the central road divider. I was not injured but the car was a write off (although UK write off is not as serious as Naija one). The police came and called an ambulance and I was certified fine at the hospital.

The police later charged me to court for "driving without due care and attention" 'cos in their summation, the minute I started feeling sleepy, I should have pulled over, reclined my seat and slept for a while instead of carrying on driving. I was fined £250 at the court and had 6 penalty points docked from my license.

I have a neighbor living in the same building in London and she studied law in the UK, went back to Naija and did law school and to my chagrin she still came back to London to continue doing care work round the clock when she should have been looking for at least an office job ??

The thing is that if she stuck to her guns and decided to only accept office work, since she had UK papers, the UK Govt will pay her rent plus feeding allowance until she got the office job as long as she shows them evidence that she is job hunting and in the meantime she can intensify her job hunt for the office or law job she really wants.

But because a lot of Nigerians can not tolerate temporary lack of "show off" money, they get stuck in care jobs which tires and wears them down that they don;t have the energy to put a CV together talk less of job hunting which is a job in itself.

We worship money in Nigeria and most Nigerians look down on those without money and this is "partly" responsible for some people who already have papers in the UK to still be willing to spend ages doing menial jobs instead of stopping the menial work to focus on "full time" job hunting for a job related to what they studied since the UK Govt will pay their rent and feeding allowance whilst they hunted for the right job for them. But they are so short sighted and blinded by the money coming from the care work they are doing round the clock without pausing to think that if they only worked the normal 35 hour week, then they will see that they are not earning that much from care work.

Care work wey be say one wrong twist when lifting a heavy client has caused some Naija carers to have slipped vertebral discs. A job you can't do into old age ??

I remember many years ago when I came back to the UK after I closed the restaurant I went to open in Naija due to staff theft, I dated a Naija carer and she suggested to me that since cleaners then earned £13 per hour, I should consider applying for a cleaning job since there was a recession in the UK at the time and it affected the service sector the most. I simply told her that if she wanted the relationship to last, she should not mention such to me again as I would rather work as an accountant earning £3 per hour than as a cleaner earning £13 per hour. The relationship did not last.

I once worked as a database programmer at UCL (University College London) and I almost cried the day I saw the name of an old friend and former classmate at UI Medical school in the HR database at UCL as a cleaner. It brought back memories of when myself and this chap used to pay the Neuro Anatomy lab attendant at UI extra money to allow us stay extra hours dissecting the human brain in the lab before exams. Luckily enough my friend passed his medical conversion exams in the UK and he now practices medicine in the UK.

Atiku had criticised the Nigerian government for giving the contract for the construction of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway to Hitech Construction Company which he claimed is owned by the Chagoury family.

Atiku had said the President's son, Seyi Tinubu, was a board member of Hitech Construction.

The Presidency in a statement issued on Monday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said that Atiku as the Vice President between 1999-2007, maintained his business links with Intels that won major port concession deals.

“Was this not an abuse of office, a flagrant violation of his oath, that a company where he was a co-owner won major government contracts and concessions when he was vice president?

He further stated that “It is important to state clearly that Seyi Tinubu is a 38 year-old adult who has a right to do business and pursue his business interests in Nigeria and anywhere in the world within the limits of the law.

“The fact that his father is now the President of Nigeria does not disqualify Seyi from pursuing legitimate business interests.

“For the records, Seyi joined the Board of Directors of CDK in 2018, more than six years ago. He is representing the interest of an investor company, in which he has interest. He is not a board member because his father is a friend of the Chagourys.”

He stressed that “The Chairman of CDK and the highest shareholder of the company is respected General TY Danjuma (rtd). The Chagouris are minority shareholders in the company, and only one member of the clan is on its five-man board.

“That Nigeria’s economy is being reclassified by the IMF as the fourth largest in Africa is stale news. This happened because of the devaluation of the Naira and President Tinubu’s determined effort to set the economy on the path of sustainable growth.

Why commencing an expensive project without a feasible environmental impact assessment?

Whatever Tinubu cannot destroy to get an opportunity to Loot billions does not exist.

From Wikipedia
On the night of 20 October 2020, Nigerian Armed Forces shot at unarmed protesters at the Lekki toll gate in Lagos, Nigeria.

According to Amnesty International, shortly before the shooting, CCTV cameras were allegedly removed from the toll gate. The Lagos State Government subsequently said these were laser cameras and not CCTV cameras as earlier publicized on social media. Also, the electricity supplying lights to the toll gate was cut and the advertisement billboards, which are owned and maintained by Loatsad Media, were turned off. Loatsad Media stated, "On Tuesday [20 October] when the curfew was announced we heeded the governor's warnings and didn't want our staff in any danger, hence by 3 pm, our staff had been ordered to leave the site and the board was switched off based on the governor's curfew request."

MTN and Airtel experienced outages during the protests. MTN Nigeria apologized later that night for the loss of coverage at the time of the shooting. On 21 October, the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), released a statement explaining that network downtime experienced during the massacre was a result of damages to fiber cables across major routes in the city resulting in congestion and poor network services.

I watched a Youtube video a few weeks ago where some prominent Nigerian (can't remember if it was Dele Farotimi or not) said that just before the Lekki Toll Gate Massacre, the underground Telecoms fiber cables were cut to disrupt internet and telecoms service.

I wonder who authorized the cutting of the Telecoms cables in Lagos before the Lekki toll Gate Massacre ??

My Mum Was Beaten With A Machete By A Man Owing Her Money
After your mum recovers, she can not go back to live in that village as that man will kill her if care is not taken. Relocate her from the hospital to wherever you stay for now to prevent that man killing her.

It is very clear that people in that so called village are either wicked or do not like your mum because they waited and watched while that man beat your mum for a whole 2 hours and when she eventually slumped and went into coma, a man from the same village that could have intervened to stop the assault is now phoning you to come and see your mum in the hospital.

Whoever watched your mum being brutalised for 2 hours in that village and did nothing but watch instead of either stopping the man or calling the police is either evil or hates your Mum and this includes the man who called you.

Don't let her go back to live in that village even for one day as that man will kill her.
