Chelsea have been warned they will have to pay Andrea Belotti’s £88million release clause if they want to sign the Torino forward this summer after failing in an approach to bag the Italy international. Antonio Conte has a long-term interest in the Italian forward and instructed his board to make a move for Belotti this week.

The 23-year-old scored 26 goals and racked up seven assists in 36 appearances for Torino last season and has been heavily linked with a move away from the Turin club. Chelsea approached Torino over a deal for Belotti and touted a fee of around £63million but the Serie A club have rejected the approach.

A clause in Belotti’s contract means he can leave the club for €100m (£88m) and Torino stressed to Chelsea that he will not leave for a penny less, according to Tuttosport.

Chelsea have made three signings so far this summer – Tiemoue Bakayoko, Antonio Rudiger and Alvaro Morata – but Conte wants at least three new players in in the next fortnight.

The agent of Julian Draxler has spoken out amid speculation that Arsenal are preparing a £32million transfer move for the Paris Saint-Germain attacking midfielder.

The 23-year-old has scored ten goals in 25 appearances for PSG since joining the club from Wolfsburg back in January but is already being linked with a move away from the Parc des Princes.

Manchester United moved one step closer to signing top target Antoine Griezmann on Tuesday as the French international told Atletico Madrid he wishes to leave.

The Vicente Calderón club have been insistent that their star player is staying in Madrid, but with a release clause of just €100m (£87m) this has always been out of their hands and the decision was always likely to be with the player.

That decision appears to have been taken, with Griezmann confirming to Atletico what his entourage had been leaking to United for months - that he was ready to swap La Liga for the Premier League - as reported first in January.

Crucially, the Old Trafford club secured Champions League football with their win over Ajax in the Europa League final and ticked the final box on Griezmann's list. The 26-year-old forward now just needs to finalise personal terms and await Manchester United activating his release clause.

The Independent revealed last week that United wish to tie up Griezmann's arrival before the end of June to avoid a protracted saga, like the signing of Paul Pogba last summer.

Their form has really declined since progressing to this stage of the competition, though, and that will be a concern for the Spanish side. True, they still need to win all their games in hand, and even then would be a point short of what is needed — but Liverpool are losing momentum at the wrong time and Arsenal's remaining fixtures are relatively benign. Southampton and Stoke away. Sunderland and Everton at home. Build on this, exert a little pressure and who knows? Hope springs eternal.
