Read: Proverbs 29:25-27

The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe. Proverbs 29:25

Many seek the ruler's favour; but every man's judgment cometh from the LORD. Proverbs 29:26

...
An unjust man is an abomination to the just: and he that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked. Proverbs 29:27

Bible in one year: Lamentation 3-5
Message
The favourites of God often share similarities with eagle. One outstanding trait of the eagle is its ability to see its enemy coming long before it arrives, and as a result, decide on how to deal with it. Usually, when a snake is about to penetrate thenest of an eagle, the latter would have seen it earlier. The eagle will wait for the right moment to strike. Without warning, it will strike by grabbing it by the neck, take it to a great height and drop it from there.

This will lead to the death of the snake. As a favourite of God, when the enemies are planning their evil attack, the Lord will reveal it to you so that you will know how to handle your enemies. How often does God forewarn you of the plans of your enemies? WhenHerod was seeking the life of baby Jesus, Joseph was warned. If you hardly ever get divine warning about the scheme of your enemies, it is doubtful if you are God’s favourite.

It simplymeans you need to work on your relationship with God.

In addition, the favourite of God enjoys divine security which leads to unusual boldness.

Hence,Proverbs 28:1 says such believerhave the boldness you find in lions. If you are a divine favourite, you will fear no man but God.

Proverbs 29:25 says,
“The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.”
Whenever you are afraid of a man, you will definitely fall into a pit.

There is a link between the fear of man and snares. If you carry out a fact-finding quest on those who found themselves in one trap or another, you will discover that majority of them got there because they were afraid of somebody or some persons. The fear of the Israelites made king Saul to be rejected. If you are afraid of offending men because you do not want to be sacked, spoken against or prosecuted, you will definitely offend God. Men are not to be feared but loved, respected or honoured. God is the only one you should fear. God’s favourites do not care about the opinions of men but about what God thinks about them.

What do you fear?

ACTION POINT
Ask God to help you grow in love and in the fear of God.

Religion / Watch Attitude To prophecies By Pastor E. A. Adeboye by majortele(m): 5:49am On Jul 21, 2013

Sunday 21ST JULY, 2013
OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTION WATCH ATTITUDE TO
PROPHECIES BY PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

Memory Verse: For by thy
words thou shalt be
justified, and by thy
words thou shalt be
condemned. Matthew 12:37

Read: Proverbs 18:6-8

Pro 18:6 A fool's lips enter into
contention, and his mouth calleth
for strokes.

Pro 18:7 A fool's mouth is his
destruction, and his lips are the
snare
of his soul.

Pro 18:8 The words of a
tale bearer are as wounds, and
they go down
into the innermost parts of the
belly.

Message :

Your confessions have a way of
affecting your today, and
particularly
your tomorrow. If there is one
thing you should do more often,
it is to speak positively into your
future, prophesy into your
today and
tomorrow and God will back it up.

Don't let the negative
pronouncements of others stop you; rather, change the
situation in
your favour by your own
confessions because
Matthew 12:37 says, “For by thy words thou shalt be
justified, and by thy words thou
shalt
be condemned.”

It is interesting but surprising to
know that what have pegged
the
progress of some people is not
the curses placed on them but
the words they have spoken against
themselves.

Stop speaking
against yourself!
Eradicate words and phrases like
these from your dictionary: 'I
cannot do it' (except for something
negative). 'This task is not for
people
like me;' 'Those who are saying I
can make it in life are only
deceiving me because nobody ever made it in my family'; 'It is
an
impossible task', etc.

Rather fill
your diction with 'I can', 'It is
possible', 'I will succeed', 'Even if
there is no way for others there will always be a way for me'.

My father-in-the Lord once told
me this story. Two men went
before the
oracle and the priest told one of
them, “You will be king”, and
the other, “You are a servant”.
Then they left. The one told he
would be
king began to rejoice and
celebrate his forth coming
fortune, but the other man challenged the verdict
of the oracle. “Why must I be a
servant?” After thinking over it,
he resolved there and then not
to be
one.

He got two cutlasses and sharpened them very well, took
some food
items and travelled to a far
location to work. Each stroke
from his
cutlass was backed by the confession: “I refuse to be a
servant”. From
his labour, his farm became so
big.

One day, a hunter in the
midst of
famine stumbled on his farm and returned to tell the villagers he
had
found food. So the villagers came
to beg the man to give them
food in
exchange for becoming their king.

So this farmer became king
while the
one prophesied to be king
became his servant.

Key Point A prophecy about you may be
good but what you do with it is
more important.

Politics / ‘my Husband’s Death, El-rufai’s Demolition Forced Me Into Prostitution’ by majortele(m): 10:05am On Jan 27, 2013

The recent visit of the Global Fund on Fight HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria monitoring team led by Andrew Hurst was to Nigeria gave a detailed insight of the life commercial sex workers.
Behind Mass Park in Zuba, a satellite town in Abuja is Blessing Udeh, easily described as “your everyday type of woman.
There’s nothing in her gait or looks to suggest that she is in what many refer to asthe oldest profession in the world.
Probably in her late 40’s, she’s a widow with three children who seemingly had a good life with her husband until fate played a cruel one on her by snatching him away.
An indigene of Imo State, getting Udeh to talk took someeffort as she fought severally to control her emotions.

She stated: “My husband died and left no money for the family. So, I had to fend for myself by joining the business (prostitution) to keep body andsoul together.”

According to her, she had a fairly good life, as a full time housewife, with her husband who was in solely charge of thefamily’s upkeep until he died.

She also disclosed that it was as a result of the devastating effect of the demolition exercise carried out by the former minister of the Federal Capital, Mallam Nasir el- Rufai that claimed the life of her husband.

“The building my husband built in Karmo was demolished by El-Rufai. This affected my husband so much that he couldn’t rise up financially again after that. It was the effect ofthe demolition that affected him and he died eventually. After his death, my children and I were thrown into abject poverty.
There was no where we could start from and nobody or even relations were willing to help us. It got so bad that my children who had dropped out from school, and I were begging daily for sustenance.”

The mother of three, who claimed to have embraced the profession recently when all else failed, disclosed that life too in the fast lane is not as rosy as she thought.

She said that she makes between N500 and N2, 000 a night which is meagre compared to the amount they pay for lodgings at the brothel.

“We pay N5, 400 for accommodation weekly and I have not even gotten enough to pay this week’s rent,” she said as at the time of conducting this interview.

She, however, appealed to the federal government, well-meaning and wealthy Nigerians to come to her aid.

Crime / Killer Policeman Asked Us To Say Our Last Prayers – Survivor by majortele(m): 10:23am On Jan 19, 2013

Details of how a policeman attached to the private house of the Adamawa State Governor Murtala Nyako killedhis wife and that of his landlord emerged yesterday.

The policeman, identified as Inspector Dan Tibi, according to one of the survivors of the attack, ordered them to say their last prayers before he shot and killed the deceased.

LEADERSHIP WEEKEND learnt yesterday that before the policeman carried out the coldblooded murder, he informed his slain wife about his mission.

A survivor of the incident, who looked traumatised, initially refused to speak with our reporter, saying the casewas being handled by the police.

But when our correspondent pressurised her family members, they offered to speak on the condition that he would not take photograph of the scene nor reveal their identities.

Subsequently, they revealed that the trigger-happy policeman had threatened to kill his wife after a mild argument. The survivor said that the police officer allegedly went to the police station and signed for the rifle he reportedly used in committing the crime.

“When the man came back with a rifle, he asked us to say our last prayers after cocking the gun. At that time we were seven, but having seen his mood, we ran for ourdear lives. Immediately after we ran away, we heard gunshots and were later told that he killed his wife and wasapprehended,” the source said.

Another source told LEADERSHIP WEEKEND that the couple had not been in the best terms for a long time but declined to make further comments on the issue.

The police public relations officer of Adamawa State command confirmed the incident and said the inspector had been arrested and would be charged to court.

Politics / Ogun Govt Secretariat On Fire, 7 Vehicles Burnt by majortele(m): 5:10am On Jan 06, 2013

No fewer than seven vehicles were burnt in the fire incident which gutted the car park section of the Obas complex at the Ogun State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta yesterday.

The fire disaster occurred few meters away from Governor Ibikunle Amosun’s office located within the Secretariat complex in Oke – Mosan and was put under check by the quick intervention of the State Fire Services.

The fire was allegedly set by some unknown persons to the bush behind the perimeter fence of the Ogun State Government Secretariat.

Although the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC)Kareem Olanrewaju claimed that only four of the vehicles parked within the area were gutted by fire, SUNDAY LEADERSHIP gathered that six vehicles, said to have been part of those retrieved from the immediate past chairmen of the Local Government Caretaker Committees in the state were completely burnt while the seventh one was partially touched by the fire which raged for over 30 minutes.

A towing vehicle belonging to the state government’s Parking Management Scheme was quickly arranged and was observed by our correspondent desperately making attempts to ferry other vehicles not affected by the fire to safer areas.

Our correspondent gathered at the scene of the incident that the fire was sparked off following the burning of bush around the secretariat by some unknown persons. It was also observed that raging fire crept into the premises of the complex through a water channel under the perimeter fence of the
secretariat close to the space where the vehicles were parked, setting them ablaze immediately.

The state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Alhaji Yusuph Olaniyonu; the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Funmi Wakama and many civil servants who thronged the scene of the fire incident expressed gratitude to God that the damage was minimal while no casualty was recorded.

Celebrities / Omotola Jolade May Undergo Plastic Surgery by majortele(m): 9:48am On Jan 05, 2013

There are strong indications that Nigerian Nollywood goddess Omotola Ekeinde Jelade may undergo plastic surgery to put herself back in shape after having four child births over the years
.

The obviously beautiful wife of an equally high- flying pilot was reacting to a question on whether she is considering a plastic surgery in future. Her reaction was apt.

Hear her: “Seriously I am thinking about it. I have four children.
That has taken its toll on my body. I am not against plastic surgery as long as you are not doing it for extremely vain reasons. If you need it, you should do it. If I see any irregularity on my body that I cannot control, I will do it.”

He described the PDP as a party in wilderness in Lagos state, and noted that leadersof the party needed to work together to build the party and restore it on the right path.

Crime in church

TWO clergy men, Pastor Glory Abrefera and Reverend Vincent Okpogo, would on Monday, January 7, know their fate following their involvement in a N50m failed deposit belonging to one of their customers.

Abrefera and Okpogo, Crime &Security learnt were standingtrial for carrying out banking business under the company name of Mustard Seed Micro Investment Ltd Warri, Delta State, an act said to be an offence contrary to section 2(2) of the banks and other financial institution act cap B3 volume 2 laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

Some of the clients of the suspects who lost substantial amount of money in the region of N50 million naira haddragged the operators of the bank to the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) to enable them get back their deposit.

There was a mild drama at the court premises when the suspects were brought for hearing.

The drama lasted several minutes and was curtailed by the officers of the court who prevailed on the EFCC officials to allow peace to reign before the commencement of the hearing.

The development thus generated more interest from people around the court before they were eventually led into the dock.

However, the judge, Justice Ibrahim Buba, who flew in from Lagos, his new judicial division, fixed January 7, 2013for the next hearing.

The General Manager, Corporate Communications, of the Ministry of Aviation, Yakubu Dati stated this in Benin City shortly after a tour to check the extent of remodelling and reconstruction work at the Airport in Benin City.

Answering questions on the safety of airplanes in Nigeria, Mr Dati said concerns in this area has led to removal of tariffs on aviation spare parts and that plans to purchase airplanes for the operators.

He said the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) was bent on removing abandoned aircrafts across the country as it does not fit into the aviation Master Plan.

Explaining how the fund needed for the new aircraft would be sourced,Mr Dati said the federal government would purchase the airplanes through the aviation fundbeing managed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Bank of Industry (BoI) as direct disbursement of funds was being abused
“This is to help domestic airlines operate profitablyand make it attractive for investors because spare parts are a major cost component in the aviation industry.”

He reiterated government’s commitmentto making the country’s aviation industry a hub in the African continent. On abandoned planes across airports in the country, he said: “We have given the ultimatum for the owners of abandoned aircraft to remove them because they constitute menace to our airspace and airports.

“They are dangers to theflying publics because they may be places wherethese birds could hide. Wehave also discovered thatsome of the aircraft havelitigation issues around them, some of them wereused as collateral for loans.

“Such things are being handled by our legal department and as soon as those issues are resolved, the planes will be moved. We also try to advise owners that thereare several creative ways in which they can use them. We are in the age of recycling and they are built with plastics and metals and that can be done profitably.

“But definitely, when the period we give elapses, FAAN will take action to ensure that we clear our spaces of abandoned aircraft because it does not fit into the aviation master-plan.”
