A First Time Mother Looking For A Good Hospital And Baby Stuff by shalata: 6:02pm On Sep 25, 2008
Hello every body

I am a first time mother. Soon by God's Grace I will have my first baby. Right now, I am abroad but will come back soon, and many questions are crossing my mind.

I need recomendations of a good hospital for check up and delivery. I need a hospital in Ikeja axis.

Also I am wondering if I should buy the baby stuff from here and taking more luggage  or home Nigeria or it will be more expensive. I am confused.

please can any tells me the cost of the pampers, car baby sit and baby bed, should I bring it with me or wait till coming home back.

Please, I know some people may see my questions are funny but I am serious and I will be glad to receive your responses

Thanks

@Poster, I also wish you safe delivery.

Ayinke House is a good place to deliver your baby but their protocol dey long oh! Being a government hospital you should expect that anyway, but I hope you won't get frustrated along the line sha.  Let me give you an idea of what you'D be required to do, if you don't mind (and I hope you're not too advanced otherwise they may harrass you small for not coming earlier).

First visit, you'll register in the MD's Office and you'll be given paper that your husband/relation should  go and donate a pint of  blood.  Alongside with that you'll do some other tests and all that may take you like a week and half to achieve.

I think that's the only major hurdle, when you are through with all that you'D be given a date for antenatal and you must strive to come as early as 7am so as to leave early, say 12noon.Depending on the age and condition of your pregnancy, you'D be required to come weekly/bi-monthly/monthly.

As per your baby things, there are nice places you can get them in Lagos here. You can bring the light ones but all the car baby seat, bed and other heavy stuffs can be purchased here in Lagos. I wish you the very best. And bring chocolate for me oh grin

@titilaelae

thanks for the advice. I am four months now. I heard about the long procedures and requirements of Ayinke House, actually I was looking for a private hospital if possible, or do you say no private one is up to Ayinke House.

As the baby stuff, I am confused, some of my friends are advicing to bring with me, while people here are advicing that I can get it here. If I can know the average of the prices of this stuff, e.g. carrier baby car, car sit and baby bed, can I get average prices in Nigeria so I can compare and make my mind

Thanks again and your Chocolate is reserved securely smiley

first off let me congratulate you and i wish you a safe dellivery

am also about 8months pregant my advice will be that you register with mother and child @ adeniyi jones ikeja
i registered there initally before i changed hospitals because of distance, the doctor is experinced and the hospital VERY clean no protocol required

as regards buying your baby things i would strongly advice you buy some in nigeria and some of the hard ware from the county you are coming from ( am assuming london or US)

i got some of my things from london majority from US and most of the hardware from nigeria

when i say hardware i mean the travel cot strollers etc i did that cos of weight but breat pump and car seat i got from the US the difference is price is soooooo high i had to get them abroad.

i hope this has been of help to you

good luck

You can have your child at Reddington in VI

there is also the Bridge Clinic.

Buy light stuff abroad and leave the heavies to Naija

like the other poster suggested.

i wish you safe delivery and all things good
Re: A First Time Mother Looking For A Good Hospital And Baby Stuff by shalata: 12:00am On Sep 28, 2008
@ Gamine

Thanks a lot. VI is far and the traffic is too much. I am thinking about possibilities of rushing to the hospital in critical hours like night or rush hour.

@joy2dworld

Thanks a lot and congratulations with my heart prayers for easy delivery for you

I am in Egypt right now but we may branch Dubai soon before going home. All varieties are here, in fact my head got turned because of what i saw. I do not know what to take and what to leave, I feel I want to bring everything but my husband advised me to ask what we should take and what we will find in Nigeria with moderate prices, espicially that he is afraid of the weight. I thought it is easy job before seeing the shops but i guess it is not.

Again thanks for the great help you both gave me, May God bless you

@ Poster,

I am happy for you and wish you safe delivery oo!

You can try Eko Hospital in Ikeja, its a private hospital which could cost you more but its worth the try! I did advice you to bring baby clothes, (the car seat, travel cots, baby high chair, walker, pampers, baby stroller grin etc you can easily get in Nigeria (Eko Idumota market, Lagos at reasonable prices).

I have already started buying the baby stuff, I could not resist the temptation any more. The varities are so much and the prices are ok. Thanks to God, We bought some things, and other are gifted from my in laws, even I am thinking to bring a bed with me. A friend advised me to buy all Jhonson & Jhonson products (hair lotion& Shampo, powder , etc) and enough pampers at least for the first 3 months especially that it is cheap here. I was told that the pampers pack (12 pieces) in Nigeria costs 1400Naira, is it real!

When you are buying the pampers, make sure you only buy about 28 pieces for size I as they grow out of it pretty quick. I remembered dashing to the supermarket and dumping about 10 size 1 pampers in the trolley, but was told by a stranger with a smile on her face that my action showed that I was a first time mum grin Also try and avoid buying anything from under 3-6 months, unless you need premmie clothes.

As for the pampers in Nigeria, the 1400 naira ones are the plastic ones. The ones I got for my son at a shop in Omole starting with S can't remember the name again, cost me 6400 naira for a pack of 34 and the chinko wipes were 3000 naira only cool

Yes, if you live in an area with good roads.

Besides travelling with a baby buggy helps in the sense that you don't really have a limit on the amount of luggage you can carry. I always travel with five to six hand luggages just because I am travelling with a baby, and because they understand that if they don't allow you to travel with as much creature comfort as your baby needs, the flight would be an eventful one for almost everyone on the plane cheesy

Thanks a lot, cheesy you have been much helpful. I believe we needed such solid information. We, me and my husband, concluded important points. I knew that pampers price is so high in Nigeria, you would not believe the price here, it is so cheap, original ones, because they are made here. Pampers and other brands have factories here. And the wipes price, my husband didnt agree to buy from here but after what you said, he agreed cool

Also, your advice on cloth matter under 3-6 months is very good, thanks again, we did not think about it. wink I guess when one is a first time mother and she see all of these varities, her head turns and wants to buy everything

Like for example ring road 8yrs ago was a bit clean now its so dirty, and the OBA palace was so nice to look 8yrs ago now so of the fence round it has fallen
Airport road is full of holes,
GRA areas looks like undecided
And that market near the Oba's palace there when u planning to do some shopping don't go with ur best shoes oh ! and certaintly not with open toes.

First time mums, safe deliveries.

Pls don't use Johnson baby products, they cause eczema on black skin. Use olive oil to rub d baby's body and bath with Dudu Osun soap. You will love ur baby's body with these.

After 6 months, u can change to whatever soap or oil.

I shop in US for my kids. Cheaper than d UK.

Boots is a haven for mums to be. Look out for Buy 1 Get 1 free wipes.

Mothercare is too expensive.

Next Baby clothes are the best.

congratulations on the soon coming earth citizen and I too wish you a safe delivery.
I think you have got allot of good advise here and I just wish to add a few things.
For the car seat, etc. Watch out for good quality but also for neutral colours that don`t get dirty too fast. That way you can use it for a second baby. It`s not just about saving costs but also for the memories.
What is important about the hospital is also the doctors that are on duty at night. Some private hospitals are very good but lack adequate attention at night. I always place allot of emphasis on the child care after birth. I mean in case the baby needs some extra attention or comes premature. That is even more of a priority to me.
Buy cloths of various sizes and some neutral ones too.
My third child showed up on the scan as a girl till the last day but ended up being a boy grin
A friend of mine that had a girl a few months later in Nigeria was very pleased because I had everything in pink so I sent them all to her.
Buy a few real good things too that can stand the test of time so that you can keep them.
When my son got married and had his first kid, I gave them a sweater my grandmum had knitted for him as a baby they were so trilled about it.

READ MY STORY ON HOW I HAVE BABY.
My Name is Moral,i live in California,i have a big testimony to say to the people who have Womb problem, I have been married for four years without any child, nor pregnancy and so i became very sad and lost hope in life because my doctor told me there is no way for me to get pregnant and this really make life so hard for me and this made my husband to turn away from me.My sister in-law told me about DR EZIKE from the Internet, how he has helped people with this similar problem that i am going through so i contacted him and explained to him. He told me not to worry and that everything we soon be okay.He cast a spell and it was a miracle to my greatest surprise three days later my husband came back to apologize for all he has done and told me he is fully ready to support me in any thing i want, and Dr.EZIKE he gave me just water from his temple to drink and he also gave my husband some thing to rub before we made love.just few months later i got pregnant and gave birth to twins (boy and girl) we are now a happy family.i will advice you to email him now,ID:drezikespellcasterhome@outlook.com I am so happy!! if you also need help to get pregnant or need your ex back please contact him for help via Email:drezikespellcasterhome@outlook.com if you are out there passing through any of this problems or predicaments in your life.his mobile number on what/apps:+2348167554235.....
